3288.0. ""Can-do" cats" by MISFIT::ABRAMS (My home is my catsle) Fri Jan 26 1990 11:32

How about those bizarre things that cats manage to do despite the fact
that they have no opposable thumbs?

Klaus has learned how to share a glass of milk without tipping it and
getting banished. He sits calmly alongside the glass, and gently dips
a paw, licks it, dips, licks....

From the "Believe it or else" files (no, I meant "else"):

In our local paper, the Rochester, NY Democrat and Chronicle, Sunday,
January 21:

LIMA- A cat playing with matches was blamed for a fire that left two
adults homeless in this Livingston County town yesterday.
"I've had 35 years in this department and never seen anything like
this," said Lima Volunteer Fire Department Chief Elwood Simmons.
Simmons said no people were at home when the fire started at the home.
He said four cats and a dog were killed.
Investigators concluded that a cat was playing with a box of wooden
matches and somehow ignited one, which started a couch on fire, Simmons said.
The cat had burn marks on its face and splintered matches were found where
the fire started. A veterinarian's examination supported the investigator's
conclusion.
    ...

My matches are stored in a cabinet now.

3288.2Cricket's trickWR2FOR::HARPHAM_LYFri Jan 26 1990 22:2613

My parent's cat Cricket, who died a few years ago at age 17, used
to have this great trick..... Although he was quite mellow, and
wouldn't provoke an altercation or defend himself even, he found
a great way to get more than his fair share of food. We always
had 2 cats, and so when they were sitting beside each other, eating
dinner, Cricket (without so much as a sideways glance) would quietly
extend his front leg over toward the other cat, hook the edge of
the dish, and slide it out from under the cat eating from it, right
into his own space! The other cat was always horribly confused
and more than a bit teed-off!!!

Peppare has decided that I should not be using straws in my McDonalds
and Burger King (and any other kind of cup with a lid) cups.
She has figured out a way to remove the straw with out tipping the cup
over. She still has me baffled...
