All I know, that I discontinued using the automatic feeder, because
kitty found out that it was fun splashing the water. By the time
I came home ,I had the whole floor full of water. I feel better
if I know that someone is looking in on "kitty", when they are left
alone to long they tend to get into trouble. The feeder for the
dry food is OK, but if you have a cat who loves to eat, she'll do
    it constantly.

I've got an automatic cat feeder (and an electronic cat door - spoilt
cats or what!). We use the cat feeder if we are going to be away just
for one meal and the neighbour can't come in. It works really well.
It has a 24 hour timer on it - well one on each section. There are
two sections with a lid. The lids ping up after the pre-set time. You
can set them to ping up together or separately - so you could leave out
two meals. I've never had any probs with it, except that the bowls aren't
very big, so I have to STUFF them with food. I only ever put tinned
    \
(WHOOPS!) food in them. I think mine is called a cat mate, but its
not the one you see advertised in the Sundays - I got it from a pet
shop in Reading. It cost about 15 pounds two years ago.

Oh yes, there is an ice pack to put in the base to stop the food going
    off.

Lisa plus P&P who were free from a farm, but cost a FORTUNE!

Yes, I've seen one in a catalogue, "Animail" pet care products. It has
the two sections, ice pack and timers on each section for up to 48
hours. Cost--$39.00 and they have a toll-free number 800-255-3723. Ask
    for item G3410.

I have a "Pet Mate" and it's fine for overnight. We had a few problems
when we were testing it out because we put in pig heart (which both
our cats love) and had it set for around 6am. At about 1am there
was a huge racket from the kitchen and one of the cats had actually
managed to prise open the lid, with one claw!

However, with tinned or dried food it works fine (although we're
    usually away, so who knows......!)
