3272.0. "An Earthquate... In Littleton?" by MICLUS::MTAG () Tue Jan 23 1990 02:20

Well, I know this is nothing new for your California folks, but it's
news (to me) in New England.

Around 7:40 this evening, while talking on the phone, the whole house
shook for about 2 seconds and it sounded like something exploded
outside. Barney and Gonezo ran for cover (my bed) and Benjamin started
to growl. I put my mom on hold and looked outside thinking a snow plow
was going by. Nothing. I got back on the phone and said, "I think we
just had an earthquake!" The 10:00pm news had nothing, but the 11:00
news said that there was a very small earthquake measuring about 2.6
felt tonight, centered just south of Littleton, MA. I live right next
to Littleton so it seemed pretty strong to me. Thank God it wasn't
like "the big one" in California last Fall.

I thought Ben's reaction was funny... how is growling going to save
anything? Guess he thought he was protecting me from some evil force.

When I first saw the note posted I was hoping you were going to clarify
something for me. But my dilemma is from Sunday night around 8:30PM.

Storm, my collie, was going crazy. We were having a small birthday
party at the house and there were 6 people there. Storm would go
around the couch (pacing) and go to each person. Her ears were laid
back and she was *trying* to tell us something. I opened the back door
and the front door to see if she wanted out. Nope. Whatever was
bothering her was definitely in the house.

Thunder *the Wonder Kitty* was the only cat reacting to all this. She
kept looking at the ceiling/roof. I was wondering if we had a prowler
but could see or hear nothing.

I checked the furnace and anything else in the house I could think of.
I also thought (earthquake??). Nah..... I really was worried. After
about half an hour, Storm calmed down. I was nervous all night long.

Maybe we had a tremor in NH on Sunday but not enough that we could feel
    it????

I really wish we could speak *their* language.

Go for it Ben; keep us all safe :-) Storm may have felt an earthquake
that was too small for people to sense; there are foreshocks and
aftershocks that are smaller than the "big one".

There was an earthquake last week. I think, in Littleton. It measured
    2.5.
