PLEASE.... See if the new homeowners might give Scooter a chance. I
too have a cat that is a true hunter but I also have pet birds. Once
in a while Scarecrow will intimidate the birds but it is usually when
he wants something (food or out). Scarecrow is also an in/out cat
though with this weather it would be hard to convince someone of that.
Most of the time I leave both cats in the house with the birds but
there are time when they've been acting up that they go in the cellar
when we're out.(not to fear they have plenty of beds down there)
A C.A.T. works wonders when he gets that gleam in his eye!!

    Ginger -
Why put him to sleep? She should at least try some shelters
first. How about Kitty Angels in Tyngsboro, Alliance for Animals
in Boston, Framingham Humane for starters. They are all "No kill"
shelters that rely on foster homes and keep the cats until placed.

Or perhaps one of the FELINERs can offer a foster home. And, you
may be able to convert Scooter to an indoor only cat. Some cats
    adjust, some don't.

With the current cat count at 10 (5 permanent and 5 foster cats)
we're out of room at the Inn.

    Good luck.

    Nancy,

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely tell my aunt about this. I guess
she was told 4 yr old cats are not usually taken in to new homes.

Unfortunately, Scooter is a definite outdoors cat, even in this weather
with the coat he has. This cat was actually a stray when my aunt took
him in and she could not convert him to an indoor cat.

Really, thank you for the information on teh "no kill" animal
    shelters!!!!

Another option would be to find him a home as a barn cat. Is he
a longhair? I forget what you said. Maybe Nancy Jenkins would
    be interested.  STEREO::Jenkins
