3158.0. "Kitties, wouldn't cooperate.....!" by SHARE::WESTON () Tue Dec 19 1989 16:26

Had some prospective adoptees over at lunch time today, checking out my
strays. Unfortunately they are a bit too skiddish still, most will
come near me and let me pat them,,,,,,,,,by the adoptees, couldn't get
too near. Paul & his wife are debating, they have children and I don't
know how the kitten would adjust and how fast.

Carole -- came over too, and made a donation so I could spay another
female, at leat!!! This does help alot.

Received a few wounds today trying to hold one for the prospective
adoptee and so didn't she..........too bad, I still want them to go to
a good home. Gonna keep feeding them and talking to them to warm them
    up for "HOPEFULLY" future parents!!!

Thank you Paul and your wife and Carole
    			for trying!

3158.1It takes time!SALSA::DEFRANCOWed Dec 20 1989 14:0719
It can sure take a long time for skiddish cats to adjust. When I got
Cali, she was extremely skiddish. In fact, it took me, my husband and
her previous owner about 45 minutes just to catch her on the day we
were supposed to take her home. I have to admitt that it took Cali
about 2 to 3 years to really warm up and become the loving cat that she
is today. I also have to say that to this day she WILL NOT go to a
    stranger.

Your perspective new owners need to understand that these types of cats
can become very loving and loyal but it does take time and patience.
Also, I feel that most ferrel or skiddish cats learn to love "their" people
only and may always keep a distrust for strangers.

good luck finding new homes for your babies. I'm sure the right person
    will come along!

    Carol,

Thank you for taking the time to gather the kitties together
yesterday. I have spent the last week seeking a cat to adopt
and as I mentioned to you (or maybe to you husband!) I've been
overwhelmed at the number of kitties out there right now that
need homes. I have made a decision to adopt a kitty from the
Acton Emergency Hospital who I feel will work in best with our
other animals, and will be entering a note under the Adoptions
    note shortly.

Another priority, to me, is that the females in your neighborhood
be spayed as quickly as possible. There are so many of them!
If there are any folks out there that can only help by donating
some money to help spay these kitties, it would greatly assist
this situation. Also food or money for food would help too.
(Carol - I hope you don't mind my stating this).

Thank you for your kindness and compassion to these creatures.

    Carole

    Hi! Nancy...........

I still have a few Applications for Certificates left. I will be
sending one in soon, for I have a new donation, from Carole Fretts.

AND Carole, don't I don't mind you mentioning I need help, yes, they
will be fixed (3) of them, next month, if they go into heat, well, they
won't stay prego, anyways. I just hope we'll be able to handle their
    recooperation.
