3041.0. "Maine Coon Breeders" by MICLUS::MTAG () Tue Nov 14 1989 13:04

I was just reading note 5.xx on Maine Coon Cats. My vet (Dr. Migday
of Slade in Framingham) and her husband (Dr. Kaplan of McGrath in
Billerica) are interested in an all white Maine Coon. They've been in
contact with a breeder in NYC, but Dr. Migday feels like this woman
isn't interested in selling to them. They are looking for a pet
quality Coon. I've gotten a couple of list of Coon breeders in the New
England area, but do any of you know of someone who breeds white Coon
    cats?

I realize Dr. Migday could get a list of breeders on her own, but she
needs some cheering up and I thought this might help. (In April, they
had to put her husbands cat Azar to sleep and just last week, she had
to put her Bull Mastiff, Cleff, to sleep due to cancer - she is
    heartbroken.)

    Thanks,
    Mary

I'm surprised a breeder would have reservations about selling an
animal to a vet! Everything I have heard about Dr. Migday has been
    complementary.

I think white Coons are quite rare but I'm no expert either. There
are lots of Maine Coon breeders in this area, Esther Weiloch
(Framingham), Cheryl Kern (the Cape), and Bob Stamatis (Stoneham)
to name a few. Better referrals could probably come from either
Cin or Elaine since they have been in the Fancy for quite awhile
    now.

When I was at the nashua show, I heard a comment that there is a
Maine Coon breeder in NJ that specializes in solid color coons, but I
    can't remember her name.

I remember seeing Cleff & Azar on Dr. Migday's PBS show. Beautiful
    animals.

I'm sorry, but I don't know anyone who breeds solid coons. Although,
the breeders that Roberta mentioned are all very good, and may come up
with solid kittens. I remember seeing a white coon at a show quite a
long time ago, I'll look through my show catalogs and see if I can find
    it.

I don't know of any solids either - the only 'different' coon I saw
recently, was a pretty red tabby up in Montreal in early September.
A huge pretty red tabby boy VERY handsome. I'll ask around.

I think there is a guy in the Chicago area that specializes in solids
and smokes. I have seen his cats at shows out here, beautiful!

I will check my catalogs for his name.

    Mary -
Tell the good doctor that I added Azar & Cleff to our list for
the Silver Lining Memorial Gift for this Quarter. I hope there
are no objections by folks to my including these two pets.

Well, Zorro is a pure black Maine Coon, but unfortunatly his breeder is
not breeding anymore. Good luck in your search.
3041.8Dr. Migday thanks you!BOOKIE::FISCHERFri Dec 08 1989 15:5325
    Nancy and Mary,

I saw Dr. Migday this past Sunday. After expressing my sympathy for
the loss of Treble Clef, I mentioned that Clef's name had been added
to the Silver Lining Memorial list and explained what the SLM is all
about. She paused for a moment, and I thought, "Oh, dear, she just
finished telling me how traumatic Clef's passing has been for them
and that she had become teary during a walk that morning when she, her
husband, and Solo came to a fork in the path and Solo looked in the
direction Clef always wanted to take." Then she smiled and said it
made her feel good that through this commemoration, Clef's death would
be helping some other animals. She was very touched.

I am sorry I forgot that Azar had also been added to the SLM list. I
won't be seeing Drs. Migday and Kaplan until January, so if you see
them before then, Mary, would you please mention this. Thank you. By
the way, Dr. Migday plans to give the Maine coon cat to Dr. Kaplan as
a surprise. (She whisked me off to a corner so we would not be over-
heard. I never did get to express my sympathy to Dr. Kaplan.) I gave
her a breeder's card from the Haverhill show and an address from this
file. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to pursue the
subject during the Santa pics fund raiser at McGrath Tuesday. I hope
Dr. Migday is able to locate a cat soon!
