3001.0. "Any Suggestions on Fur Balls" by JAWS::DUMAS () Thu Nov 02 1989 14:59

    Can someone give me some advise on Fur Balls.

    I have a blue Persian, with very very long hair. He vomits alot
    probably due to fur balls. My vet has recommended Laxatone twice
    a week.

    This doesn't work all the time. Is there anything else out there?

3001.1Try this.....PMROAD::PORTEREveryDarkTunnelHasALightOfHopeThu Nov 02 1989 18:164
    Try giving him a spoonful of cod liver oil. This will coat the fur
    balls and make them slide down.

    Or you might try liquid parafin. Not quite sure about the dosage,
    though - I think it's 1 teaspoonful every week.

The command

will return a list of other notes where this issue has been discussed
and where others share their experiences on the subject.

    Are you brushing him regularly to get rid of the loose hair?

3001.5Keep up the LAXATONEDELNI::HYERThu Nov 02 1989 20:567

    Use the LAXATONE or FEMALT, brush constantly. He/She will still toss
    a few hairballs in the heavy shedding times. Mine did quite a few this
    summer despite rigorous treatment as above which DID help a lot. 'tis
    better up quick and easy with LAXATONE treatment than to have them
    strain trying to get them up or down. Since cooler weather we haven't
    had one come up in weeks.

    monthly baths in addition to brushing, combing and LAxatone have help
    Nippa w/ hair balls.
3001.7Try mineral oil...KOBAL::LANDRYFri Nov 03 1989 13:336

    I give my cat one teaspoon of mineral oil every week. She used to have
    a hairball attack once or twice a week but now we only see one once
    every couple of months. We switched to mineral oil because she
    wouldn't go near the Laxatone. We use a medicine eye dropper to squirt
    the mineral oil in - and she never even knows it happened!
