2865.0. "Feline Awareness Month" by DELNI::MTAG () Fri Sep 15 1989 18:01

Earlier this year (Spring?) I entered a note about someone I work with
who had a kitten and didn't particularly want to get it fixed. Anyway,
at the time the spay certificate came in, Alvin got pregnant and her
kittens will be available next week for adoption. Alvin is also up for
    adoption.

Next Thursday, as part of Feline Awareness Month, Dr. Carlson of
Westford is having a FREE day of spay/neutering (morning) and shots in
the afternoon. Alvin will be getting spayed and her kittens checked
out. She's just about done nursing - she pushes her kitten (4 of them)
    away.

I have not seen any of these cats, but Alvin is tri-colored... don't
know if she's a Calico, Tortise Shell, or whatever. One kitten is
completely black with front double paws, one is grey with long hair,
one looks like the mother, and I don't know what the 4th one looks
    like.

After the kittens are 7-8 weeks old, he plans on putting all of them
and the mother cat into a shelter.

It's a good thing you didn't mention your friend's name - he would have
gotten a nasty letter from me! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you can pass this on?!?!

It must be hard for you to have to watch someone behave in this
way. Do what you can to help the kittens and the mom. I hope that
this person has learned something from the experience, but it doesn't
sound like it if he is giving the mom to the shelter too.

Yes, I hate people like this too, and this is really the only
difference this 'friend' and I have. Too bad too. I told him when he
got the kitten (by default... his mother thought she wanted a kitten
and couldn't handle it's energy level) that he was doing the wrong
thing and told him about being a responsible owner, etc. but it really
    fell on deaf ears.

Anyone planning on being at the Framingham cat show next Sunday
interested in a mom cat and 4 kittens? Think I should bring them?
(This will be only my second time attending a cat show.)

Oh - get this one! This guy said to me recently that he didn't like
the idea of giving away cats at grocery stores, fairs, etc because he
felt that the people adopting them would decide afterwards that they
didn't really want the cat and not treat them right. I basically asked
him he had looked in a mirror lately.

Mary,
Unless you've made arrangements in advance with the show manager, you won't
be allowed to bring those kittens into the show hall.

Mary contact Kitty angels and Framingham Humane and see if they
plan to have cats at the show for adoption. One of them might let
you bring your kitties along and keep them at their table.

You know something?? I'm glad he is giving mom and kittens away. He
doesn't sound like a responsible owner to me. If he were, he would
have the cat spayed and keep her. He sounds like a person who *likes
kittens because they're so cute but dislikes cats* . I hope mom and
children all find good loving caring homes

2865.8Alvin and her "Chipmunks" UpdateMICLUS::MTAGThu Sep 21 1989 13:5621
Well Alvin (and her "chipmunks") are at the vet today... at the
courtesy of Dr. Carlson in Westford. Because it's Feline Awareness
Month, he's spaying Alvin and giving the kittens their first shots for
FREE! This is the first I've seen any of the cats and they are real
    cute.

Alvin is a Tortise Shell, 9 months old, and weighs in at 9lbs. The
kittens are: 2 black (one fuzzy), one Tortise Shell, and one white
with black patches (also fuzzy). They are all up for adoption. I'm
not sure if FeLV tests will be done or not.. I'll try and find out once
    the cats are home.

Nancy - I called the number for the woman at the Framingham Humane
Society but could not get through to find out if I could bring the
kittens to Sunday's show. However, after talking with my friend's
wife, I feel much better - she has no plans on just "dropping" the cats
off at a shelter and was surprised her husband told us this at lunch
last week (he didn't tell her!).
