2816.0. "Just saying hello" by SUBURB::STANNETTF (Living on a Rainbow) Thu Aug 31 1989 13:13

I've been reading this note on and off for the past few months and finally
decided to add my 2cents worth.

I come from a cat loving family, my parents at one time had 7 cats,
    all related!

I have only two cats, but since reading this file I've been getting
broody, especially since reading about distressed cats. My two
are called Spots and Socks, both are female and have been 'done'
    (spayed).

Spots is big, and has been mistaken for a Tom before now. She is
mainly white with black patches and most strikingly - three well marked
spots on her shoulders. She is a fairly timid and shy cat, and
doesn't like loud noises or loud humans, but is very affectionate
to those she knows and is very intellegent - my brother recently
came to visit and she recognised him and walked all over him - her
way of saying hello! - even though she hasn't seen him for over
    2 years.

Socks is small and delicately built, total opposite to her sister
and littermate. She is mainly black with 4 white feet and a white
'go faster' stripe down her left leg. She is very pretty but a
real terror, she thinks nothing of leading the local Toms up the
garden path and then turning on them before running indoors to safety.
She is also the rat/mouse/frog/bird/and anything that flys catcher.
She has been persuaded not to bring them indoors but does still
occasionally leave them on the doorstep. She christened out new
house by catching a large rat. I found it at 6.00 am in the bathroom,
laid out all nice and tidy in the middle of the doorway!

They're favourite pastime is herding me and Mike to bed at 10.00pm!
and then waking us up at 7.00am to be fed. We've cracked the early
morning call but not the herding to bed. From 10.00 pm they follow
us everywhere until we go upstairs then one goes into the bedroom
and waits and the other goes into the bathroom and watches the whole
ablution process, then waits until we're settled in bed and then
changes guard duty with the one in the bedroom!

My name by the way is Fiona, most people shorten it to Fi and I
    work in Millennium in Reading.

    Fi
(who wants to move to a bigger house so she can have more cats!)

2816.1Another Black & White Patrol Cat!STAR::DMARTINThu Aug 31 1989 14:5322
    Welcome Fi!

Your Spots and my Spot sound like they have a lot in common, both black
and white patrol cats, Spot likes us to go to bed at 11:00, and she
won't sleep until after daddy has brushed her. If he forgets she sits
on his chest with that "Haven't you forgotten something" look on her
face and thens runs to the bathroom, where her brush is kept and will
repete the process until daddy takes the hint. When daddy is away on
business it's a real problem, "Mummie how *DARE YOU* presume to brush
me. What have you done with daddy? Then she's off searching for her
missing daddy, this can go on all night! (No not under the bed, maybe
he's in the office, no maybe downstairs, etc and she sounds like a herd
    of elephants running around.)

She forgives me at meal time, but she really gets upset when Jerry (her
daddy) is away, and of course it's all my fault!! Sigh, it's not easy
    being a kitty mummie.

    Feline fine,

    Sue & Panther & Spot & Jerry

2816.2Welcome!MEMIT::MISSELHORNThu Aug 31 1989 17:0215
    Hello Fi,

    Welcome to Felines!

Hope you enjoy this file as much as I do. I've learned lots from our
fellow noters, gotten tons of chuckles, and brushed many tears away.

The people who participate in this file are the greatest!

One of the hardest temptations to resist for me is to not spend my
time reading Felines when I have work to do. (Sigh)

    Once again, welcome.

Schnapps and Tequila are the 4:45 A.M. type (though it says
5:15 on our 30-minutes-fast clock ;'). Rici would keep us
all night if allowed entrance to our room. Sigh...

    Barbara,

You mean you haven't learned how to work and read the notes at the same
    time????

How do you think I keep up with all of them???
