2734.0. "Looking for Torti" by PSYCHE::MILLER () Mon Aug 07 1989 14:03

    Looking for Torti Persian

I was at a pet store in Newington, NH and I saw a Torti and thought
it was the most unique looking kitten! They wanted 425.00 for it and
I called a week later, price went down to 350.00. I was going to buy
her the following week if the price went down again, but a couple
bought her before I went in again.

I have a blue point himmie and she needs a playmate. I am looking for
a pet quality torti. I only paid 200.00 for the himmie from a breeder
in Sterling, Mass. I live in Leominster and if anyone could direct me
to a place (or breeder) where I can get a torti, I will be grateful.

    Thanks, Amie PHAROS::MILLER

Amie, stay away from pet stores! You'll get a much nicer and healthier
cat from a good breeder at a less expensive price.

I don't have a list available of Himmie breeders; however, there
are several cat shows coming to New Hampshire in the very near future
so that would be a good place to acquire information. Also, one
of the breeders in this file may be able to point you in the right
    direction.

does it have to be a persian? The woman who I got Nippa (medium haired
torti) from alway has kittens of every color.....(yes another sorry
case, but I'm tired to trying to talk sence into people without
having any)...I'm sure she'd have one.

You may think am stupid. Put what color is Tori ? IS it like
bay or tans. Why I asked is my silver shaded just had four this
early morning. Two of them are white and the other two have a
mixture of black and gary. As they get older I'll be able to tell
    the color better.

    Joan -
A Torti or Tortoishell has small patches of black and red in her
coat. Like Calico's Torti's are female 99.999% of the time. A
Dilute Torti is cream and grey - the dilute forms of red and black
    - and are also female.

    Joan,

You can't get Torti or Blue-Cream from the two cats you bred together.
Your darker kittens are probably shaded silvers or silver tabbies.

Thank you for your help... I am going to look at Cindy Gerry's
kitties. I really wouldn't buy at a pet store. I got my himmie, Lulue
from a breeder. All I can say about the Torti is that I have to find
one that looks just like the one I saw at the pet store. She was TRULY
the most unique looking kitty I ever saw! She look just like an EWOK
    from Return of the Jedi...Amie

Barbara Ives has a Himmie that looks just like an EWOK. Ming is
a sealpoint and she is BEAUTIFUL! Barbara got her from Stoneystream
Cattery owned by Mary Stenstrom who lives in Littleton.

Cin has a very nice cattery and some wonderful cats. I'm sure you'll
fall in love a million times!
