2709.0. "Latent Behavior Problems" by AIMHI::LLEBLANC () Tue Jul 25 1989 19:54

I have a three year old male (Alex) and a 1 year old male (Boots),
both neutered. In the past couple of months, Alex has become very
agressive towards Boots. Every time Boots comes near Alex, Alex
will hiss, growl, spit and sometimes even takes a swipe.

This is new behavior that Alex is demonstrating. Boots is becoming
very shy because of this and I don't know what to do about it. They
used to be pretty good friends, but now I don't know. I give Alex
alot of attention so there's no reason to be jealous.

Can anyone give me any advise on how to handle this??

    Thanks in advance...

Are they indoor cats? This IS strange for the only two not to
get along. Perhaps Alex still gets those male urges and feels
that Boots is not welcome in his territory when the women come
a-courting. Another thought may be that Boots tried something
distasteful ;-) on Alex and Alex got very offended.

I have a neutered indoor male who chases his sister for "a little
bit" now and then. She gets mad at him and exhibits mean behavior.

Do they fight at the food dish? Try to see who dominates the food
bowl when you feed them their favorite dish. If Boots is the dominant
one, Alex may feel threatened by him and is reacting accordingly.

    No help here!

You know, I have four cats and four food dishes. It would never
occur to me to make them compete for food.
