2666.0. "A "Kitty-Hotel" with a different twist..." by CPDW::MCDONOUGH () Tue Jul 11 1989 15:18

I was going over some of the "older" notes in the conference, and
stumbled across Note 2248--the one about the "Kitty Hotel" somewhere in
California, and it jogged my memory about another Cat Hotel, but this
one with a little bit different slant to it.
This hotel is located in southern Minnesota, in a town about 7 miles
from the one I was born and raised in. The town's name is Wabasha
Minnesota, and the hotel is "The Hotel Andersen".

This hotel is well-known for TWO reasons. I'll tackle the SECOND
reason first. They have a chef that spent many years in Paris in some
of the finer restaurants and he brought his expertise along with him. I
have eaten in this restaurant, and I can truely verify it's
    excellence...and I like to eat!!

But to the FIRST reason the "Hotel Andersen" is famous:
All guests staying at this hotel are offered--free-of-charge--a CAT to
stay with them as long as they are guests!! A "Cat-room" is located in
the hotel wher guests may make select their companion. Once the
selection is made, the bellhop transports the Kitty to the correct room
along with it's litter-box and kitty-condo, where it continues it's
    life of decadent luxury.
The last time I was there they had reprints of articles from at LEAST
25 magazines on the kitty-companion issue. I personally think this is a
fantastic idea, and i'm surprised that more hotels/motels haven't
jumped on the bandwagon with similar programs.

B.T.W....The Cats simply LOVE the idea as well. They seem to relish
the idea of different "human pets" sharing their nights with them...

One of the pet catalogues has a couple of long and narrow posters
of about 9 or 10 cats (suitable for framing). The cats on one of
the posters all have cowboy hats. The origonal paintings of these
posterse were inspired by the cats of this hotel.
