2649.0. "We've got our kittens at last!" by LARVAE::DOIDGE (Yes, that is how you spell it !) Wed Jul 05 1989 12:35

Much to Pippin's disgust, we brought home 2 eight week kittens on
Sunday, Jelly and Custard! Jelly is a tiny black short haired girl,
and Custard, her brother and already bigger, is short haired, pale
    orange and white. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Pippin, who is two, was one of a pair, as they say, but his brother,
Merry was killed last November. These kittens are for his benefit,
although I don't think he appreciates that yet!

    Yaaaay - ROS!

You kept that quiet - I have a lovely vision of you yelling "Jelly,
Custard, Pippin" out of your back door :-)

Bring some photos next time you come over.

Give him a few days. He'll remember what kittens are for :-)

    Funny you should say that!!!

After two weeks in the cattery, while me and Him Indoors were on
holiday, the PCs are the best of friends, but I think they are a
bit confused. The kits are suckling from Pippin! I suppose it must
be like thumb sucking, and they all purr like mad when it's going
    on.

But I do wish they wouldn't all congregate on my pillow in the
night, making big slurping noises. Yuk! They can sleep where they
like, but I wish they were a bit quieter!

Seriously, Pippin is really happy now in his Mummy role. I'm looking
forward to when they can poo outside, preferably in somone else's
    garden! Joke.

BTW KT, I did want to call them after the Gemini twins, Castor and
Pollux, but HI said he wouldn't call that outside the back door.
    Pleb!

    Rosalind -
Keep an eye on Pippin. The suckling could really irritate
his nipples and he may not know enough to "wean" the kittens.

At least its not a good wool sweater :-)

He doesn't seem to mind, although his nipples do seem enlarged (isn't
this disgusting!), how do I stop the kittens doing this?

Keep the kittens separated from the cat while you are not their
to correct them. When you are there, and they start trying to nurse,
squirt them with water. Be consistent. The idea is to make the
    experience unpleasant for them.

But..but they all seem to enjoy it so much. I 'm going to seem such
a mean mummy! Do you think they will stop it naturally?
