2622.0. "Introducing "COOKIE"!!!" by CPDW::MCDONOUGH () Mon Jun 26 1989 16:08

      See NOTE 2600...

I took this little lady home with me Friday night...NOT to replace
the baby we lost last Monday, but rather, to allow this poor,
handicapped little lady to have a comfortable, warm, secure home...and
to let us know her unique personality.
We've named her "Cookie", because she resembles an "Oreo Cookie"
more than anything else. She's one of the mose self-assured little
critters I've ever seen. It took her all of two hours to be TOTALLY
acclimated to our nine boisterous but friendly dogs, and after that she
was PLAYING with the two biggest---a 70 pound mutt that looks like a
Rottweiler, and a 60 pounder that looks like a G.S.D.

When I picked her up, I didn't have the heart to leave her in her
"kennel-kab" so I let her roam the car. She proceeded immediately to
climb to the back of my neck and stretch out alond my shoulders,
between my shoulders and the seat-back, and commence to pass-out. She
travels VERY well, PURRS like anything, and is so self-confident for
her 12oz size that it's amazine....

We're really enjoying her!!! All 11 of us!! (no problem with our two
                                                 other cats either..)

Owned by two cats and love it!!

    Good for you and cookie!!

What is her handicap? We'd love to hear more about how she gets along
with your furry family! It sounds like fun, I've alwasy wanted more
pets than we can really afford, or take care of properly. Besides,
Panther and Spot are very happy with the number of animals that we have
    now, which is just them!!

Good luck to all of you, you have a kind heart!

2622.3A "POTENTIAL" Handica.....CPDW::MCDONOUGHWed Jun 28 1989 14:0720
Her "handicap" is that she's FELV Positive.(FEline Leukemia Virus)
This precludes the MAJORITY of people from adopting her, because there
is no guarantee that she won't actually contract the disease at some
time during her life, and if she ever does contract it, it's fatal.
However, there IS the distinct possibility that she is simply a
carrier, and is immune to it herself. The problem with either
category--carrier or potential victim--is that she CAN transmit the
disease to un-infected animals if they are not immune. We already have
an FELV+ cat who's about 8 years old, and has had no problems, so we
    feel safe in that regard.

"Cookie" has fit her tiny self right into the group. She loves to
play and her two favorite "toys" are the biggest two dogs in the pack.
The dogs ALL love her, and a couple of them follow her around with
the most adoring looks on their faces..

I'll get back later to give more details...

2622.4We're really enjoying this kitty....CPDW::MCDONOUGHThu Jun 29 1989 20:4137
Well, now that she's gone through a weekend and most of a week with
us, we are continuing to be amazed at Cookie's ability to figure out
    what's happening.
We showed her the litter box one time, and she hasn't missed since
then. She is a PANIC to watch taking a drink!! Does she drink from the
cat's water bowl?? NO WAY!! She drinks from the DOG'S pan, which is a
plastic dish pan about 6-7 inches high. She pulls ehrself up to the
edge on the corner with her front feet, hooks one back leg over the
edge, balances with the two fronts, while using the free back leg as an
anchor, and proceeds to drink. (We keep a close eye on her, and she
doesn't have access to this pan while we are out...)
She has a "spot" that I made up from an old towel and some other old
clothes.. I rolled the towel into a tube, formed it in a circle, and
she crawled right in and proceeded to settle down. This is now "HER"
spot, and she is usually sleeping there unless she's "spazzing-out" all
    over the house.
Cookie plays with just about everything!! Dog's ears, dog's tails,
"Smokey", the three-legged cat, tabs from a soda can(I took that and
threw it away as it's too sharp), and she LOVES to "kill" my fingers!!
I've never seen a 12 wek old kitten that purrrrrrs like she does!!
She purrrrs CONSTANTLY!! She can be sleeping and when I pick her up I
hear "Purrrrrrrrrrr"! She can be simply walking around the floor and if
it's quiet in the room we hear "purrrrrrrrr"!! It surely seems that
    she's a happy little tyke!!
If I fold my arms across my chest in parallel, and pick Cookie up,
she loves to settle on the "shelf" that my arms make and take a bath.
When she does this, it's a panic to see the INTENSE LOOK that she get's
on her little face as she washes away..especially when she does her
    head and ears...

As you can probably see, we are having a ball with her. And she seems
to be enjoying us equally as much... And our pups are all enthralled
with her, although a few of them still don't seem to know quite what
    she is!!

Aren't kittens wonderful!!! Makes me wish I was a breeder sometimes.
I'm so glad you have such a little bundle of purrs to help you through
    a tough time.
We found a video tape of Dundee from about a year ago when we'd
just got him. I'd forgotten how cute and comical kittens are!
Boy am I glad we bought the camcorder!
