2547.0. "Coffee-Cat????" by NRADM::CONGER (What's ONE more cat????) Wed Jun 07 1989 12:59

  re: Note 2542.6 "Cats in the Flowers"

>>>    coffee-grounds,lemons, and other non-aromatic-to-cats things.

		Okay, I wasn't going to say anything, I was just going
	to assume that my cat is just wierder than everybody else's, but
	Lynn's remark really got my curiosity going...On the weekends I
	usually make myself expresso in the mornings, it's the closest I
	can come to Tobin's High-Test...:) I've been using Cafe Noisette,
	which is hazelnut flavored. Of course, being saturday morning, I
	do drop a little bit now and then while I'm trying to spoon it
	into the pot. Here's where the fun begins! Missy will roll around
	on top of the coffee, making strange mewling noises (she does not
	do this with catnip, at least not to this extent!) and then she
	acts *really* strange for about an hour or so (of course, I gave
	it to her on purpose a couple of times to see if that was really
	what was doing this to her). After she has scrubbed the coffee
	into her face with her paws, and scattered it all over the
	kitchen, she acts like a slap-happy drunk for awhile....Really!!
	She waddles around and does stupid things...It's really funny, but
	I don't give it to her anymore because I didn't know why she was
	reacting this way and if it might be harmful to her...So, does
	anybody else have a coffee-cat??? (or have any idea why I do????)

2547.1olives for my catMAMIE::RUSSOWed Jun 07 1989 16:206
    My cat acts the same way but with green olives or olive oil. He
    rolls around howling and howling... It's cute but I'm not sure
    that it's good for him. I have another cat that is not affected
    by them at all.

    	Mine don't roll around in it but Duke likes to drink
    	it from my cup!!

    	(they just knock over the trash and the grounds end up on
    	  the floor...grr!)

2547.3new career on horizon (counter-top)TIDES::CIOFFIWed Jun 07 1989 16:539
    Sounds like the beginning of a new career.....marketing "coffee
    nip" in all the various kitty attractive coverings, burlap, mouses,
    balls, etc. etc. You may have discovered something great!
    Although I don't like the mess so not likely to experiment......
    on second thought, maybe it will make him less grouchy!!

    	Well, it's not so much of a *mess*, since she mushes
    	it all into her face and walks aroung with coffee all
    	over her wiskers and nose... (then she gets to clean
        it off - yippee). She actually `does cute' when she
    	sees me take the container out that has the coffee in
    	it!!! `Oh Boy Mom - can I have some coffee - PLEASE???'

2547.5Now I'm worried!WR2FOR::HARPHAM_LYWed Jun 07 1989 21:2910

    Oh my gosh! Now I don't dare try the coffee grounds in the garden!
    I have visions of 27 cats from all over the neighborhod clamoring
    to get in the garden..... think I'll try the red pepper or lemon
    first....

    Thanks for the tip!
