2546.0. "Climbing the door facings" by FREKE::WARD (Every cloud has a chocolate lining) Wed Jun 07 1989 12:53

Becky and Velcro have started a new "thing" lately and I wondered
if anyone else has had this with kittens. They have taken to trying
to climb the door facings. But only two (that I know of). The
one in the bedroom where the closet door would be if we had a door,
and the one in the bathroom (the one they sleep in). Here's what
happens: first Velcro will jump up and try to hang on to climb then
Becky tries not two seconds later, then Velcro then Becky. What's
going on? Are they trying to drive me up the wall (pun intended)?
If anybody else has had this problem, please let me know.

And while I'm at it, how do I keep them off the kitchen counter.
They have just "discovered" it and keep on jumping up. We tried
masking tape last night, but they were on the counter again this
    morning.

Well can't say that I've heard of that but in our old
apartment Sasha used to jump on top of the doors. Kitty
    	has good balance!!

As far as the counters go, as many in here will tell you,
the best thing to try is the CAT (Cat Adjustment Tool).
Which is simply a squirt bottle. Catch them on the counter
and squirt 'em. (make sure it's set on STREAM and not
    	SPRAY...spraying isn't as effective)

Good luck! (they give you this look when you squirt them
like "what the h**l'd you do THAT for, mom?!! wasn't very
    	nice ya know!!")

The other trick is to put logs of pans of water and other unpleasant
things on the counters so when they jump up they get wet or make
lots of noise which they don't like.

A door facing is the wood part that frames the doorway. It is what
the door latches to. Hope this answers the question. BTW, Randy
says they are trying to measure how high they can jump. Maybe I
should help them by putting measuring marks up?
