2495.0. "WARNING: d-CON 'Kills Fleas and Ticks'/Hartz Blockade" by CIRCUS::KOLLING (Karen, Sweetie, & Holly; in Calif.) Tue May 23 1989 04:16

The June issue of Cats magazine contains a letter from a reader who
warns that d-CON Kills Fleas and Ticks seems to have caused the deaths
of three cats. The cats' owner sprayed the product on the cats,
following the manufacturers' directions, and the cats died in
convulsions. The answer to the letter notes that Hartz Blockade, which
seemed to be causing similar deaths and was pulled from distribution,
is now once again being sold.

Lets face it, flea powders and flea-sprays are dangerous for cats.
I believe that the flea shampoos are safer since the idea is to
kill the fleas during the bath and then wash the shampoo off.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I had to deal with fleas, I'd
    use the shampoo.

Unfortunately, Nancy, the shampoo only works for the fleas that
are on the cat. You also have to take care of the house, and should
use a dip or power or spray on the cats. And then sometimes all
of these things don't work either!!!

Boy, Cin, do I know what you mean about all these things sometimes
not working. In California, fleas are a year round problem, and
living next to an open field doens't help matters any.
