2484.0. "FREEWAY KITTY COMES HOME" by JULIET::APODACA_KI (Love rescue me.) Fri May 19 1989 19:18

Well, two nites ago, Freeway came home to roost, so to speak.

So far, it's been rather typical of introducing a new kitten. He
has not been Feline leukemia tested yet, but after de-fleaing him
as best as I could, he escaped while the door to my bedroom was
open and the other two cats were in there checking out this nifty
smelling cat cage. Well, since then, Bonesy has wanted to stay
as far away from this new thing as he can, and been a major grump
to boot. He even wanted to go outside (???) when he knows dern
well he hasn't been outside since I moved. He growls and growls
and growls, even at Ashley--who's been with him for the last two
    years plus! It's funny....

Ashley on the other hand, hissed and growled, but otherwise is fine.
She still cozies up to me and does her "aren't I cute?" stuff, and
wantss to WATCH the kitten all the time (hard to do since I try
to keep everyone separated until Freeway gets tested--I am glad
this isn't airborne germs, and it's bloddy unlikely they are going
to get personal for some time) altho it better not get near.

So actually, all is well. I am more worried about my manager seeing
the kitten and making me give it up than the cats getting along.
I am not going to put up with an excess of noise, but other than
that, it's just tough kadoody if the other two don't like him (I'm
    such a meanine, huh?) ;)

Freeway is a very nice orange tabby with white tux pattern and a
white snip up his nose. I had forgotten how active kittens are!!!
All he wants to do is play play play! However, he's box trained,
purrs on contact and seems quite healthy and alert. He is cute
and I plan on showing him when he gets older. Still, he has to
learn the word NO and some restraint when playing--other than that
he's great! ( and travels well in the car too!).

I'm sure you'll be hearing more about him as he grows up!

Okie, Freeway is Leukemia negative, so mingle mingle (actually,
he had to mingle before he went to the vet as I am currently lacking
a bathroom and with the workers coming in and out the cats have
to be locked up together). Bones, the old man, wantss nothing to
do with the kid and Ashley is tolerant. They even rode in the carrier
    together without hisses or bats.

I have found the key to making Freeway sleep at nite--he runs around
mre than that kitten in the commerical (the one that sounds like
a race car!)--if he gets too rambunctious--in the crate he goes!
He then sacks out to be let out when we are ALL up, rather than
waking the apartment at 4am. He also has proven excellent in the
car--he sleeps and I get lost looking for the vet.

    Ah, but he's my buddy!
