2383.0. "Fixed male & Unfixed female?" by CIMNET::PRIESTLEY () Fri Apr 14 1989 14:51

    My boyfriend and I are moving into our new apartment this weekend
    with our two cats--Cloud a fixed 9 month old male, and Opus a non-fixed
    9 month old female. They have never met before, and I am afraid
    that being around an un-fixed female will start Cloud spraying.

    Opus is going to be fixed as soon as I can make the appointment,
    but that probably won't be for another couple of weeks.

    Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I leave Cloud
    with my family until Opus is fixed?

    Thanks,
    Michelle

    I would suggest keeping the two in separate houses until Opus is
    fixed. It would be the safest bet.

    These types of things usually come down to the personalities of
    the individual cats involved, but why take any chances.

    If one cat has a few weeks to establish itself in the new home,
    won't it think the other cat is an intruder when it finally
    shows up?

    Since it sounds like they don't know each other yet anyway, then
    there is really nothing to lose with getting the female spayed first.
