	Congratulations, Nancy!  I wish we could have seen you and
	your cats, but since I had to work on Saturday, we had to
	go to the show on Sunday.

	I picked up a flyer on the way in which gave some details 
	about showing HHP's, and it said that they were judged
	primarily on healthiness, cleanliness, and how well they
	could be handled.  So it's possible that Dundee was up
	against all the other allbreed cats in his ring.  Maybe
	one of the more experienced show-persons can fill us in
	on that.

	But overall, it sounds like Dundee (and you) did very
	well for your first show! :^}

    Nancy, I can tell how it would have worked if it was a CFA show
    but Cin, Holly, E.T. and others can probably help you with the rules
    for that associaton.
    
    In preliminary judging, Dundee would be judged against the written
    standard for the breed, and then against other Scottish Folds in
    the alter class.  Then the judge would do the same for the other
    breeds.  After all the breeds had been judged, he would pit the
    breed winners against each other, and pick the best 10 examples
    out of all of the alters.  Best and Second Best Novice would be
    selected from all the novices (there had to be at least two at that
    show).  In CFA, there is no best or second best novice award, but
    there is best and second best premier (these cats have achieved
    their premiership by getting 6 winners ribbons from at least four
    different judges).  Then the judge would name his top ten cats in
    Premiership.
    
    In other words, Dundee done good!!!!

    Thanks Phil.  I'd appreciate it if you'd let them know
    that DUNDEE MACTAVISH represented his breed well.  You
    might also ask them what the MacTavish clan colours are
    so I can make him a kitty bed or knit him a kitty blanket
    in the right colors!

    What number where you???  I stopped and looked at all the babies
    up there, constantly talking with people.... but never daring to
    say, "Pardon me, but are you a DECie".  I know they would have looked
    at me like I was CRAZY.  I was!  To think I walked around in that
    cold, and I didn't even have a cat to show.
    
    All the cats were beautiful!  Especially the little 4 month old
    silver oriental that ended up in her owners jacket because of the
    cold.  She wasn't being judged this time, but next time she will
    be ready!

    Ya know,  feliners ought to design a unique button that could be
    worn at cat shows so you can id one another.
    
    Perhaps some artist would like to design a cute button.  I think
    that buttons can be made for less than one dollar.  I also think
    that if this artist just sent out the piece of paper with the
    design on it, each person could take the paper to their local
    stationary shop and have a button made out of it.
    
    One idea for a 3 inch button :
    
    	the block letters DEC with several kittens climbing on the letters
                  
    Do we have any artists that read feline that could do this?  I'd
    love to have one, even if I don't go to shows.

    Or you could hang your badges from your benching cages. Then spectators
    would see that they owner of the cat inside was a Deccie.

    Hey Nancy, C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S !!  Glad to hear you did
    well and sorry I missed you Sat.  
    
    I think the button idea is a great one.  PLEASE, if anyone decides
    to do it, let us know.  Maybe a copy could be made and distributed
    to noters in different regions, who could then find a central print
    shop to do the buttons.  Or, does anyone belong to a club/
    organization that does buttons for fund raising who'd be willing to
    make up the buttons? Or ....

    I was there Saturday and didn't know who was a Deccie and who wasn't.
    
    It would have been nice.  Actually NDC and her husband had their
    DEC T-shirts on their cage with Digital showing.  I thought that
    was a neat idea.

    dont worry bout the blanket etc. ill send you a kilt!
    i WAS adopted, we went to the vets etc who said apart from
    some unruly visitors he was in great shape. anyway,as he was
    about 8 years old and been on the street for a long time
    it wasnt worth having him done. (i didnt fancy the idea much!!)
    he gave him a few shots and we went home to a massive meal,and guess
    wot? i let him out and he scarpered!!!!  never mind, i think its
    a 
    fair bet hell live!!

    re: .5  We were numbers 194 & 171.    Mao is a calico tabby -
    lots of orange, and Dundee is a Brown tabby & white scottish
    fold who spent alot of time in a peach fuzzy "cat cave".  If
    you were facing the rings we were on the right side of the isle
    about 2/3 of the way to the back of the room.  And you're right,
    it was very cold.  It was tough on the cats!  
      Did you see the kitten judging in ring 1 at the end of the day?
    I was stewarding for that ring and had on a red sweater with 
    white cats on it with green collars.

    if nothing else he won't be bringing more unwanted cats into
    the world)  And good luck with your multi-cat household!  I
    love ours.  (Take four, they're small)

    re: Buttons - That's an excellent idea and I like the idea
    of DEC with kittens climbing all over it.  I've seen
    rubber stamps for sale with cats playing in the letters.

    I remember the babies, but can't remember seeing anyone around the
    pens.   Hummmmm, wonder if you were judging by then??  I was there
    for about 3 hours, that is all I could take of the cold (and not
    being able to hold and take home ALL of the babies).
    
    I jumped around to all the judges, didn't particularly care for
    the older man in the green jacket (#4??????), he didn't seem too
    thrilled with the cats.. kind of impatient with them.  Didn't like
    him at all.
    
    Next time I will were my DEC shirts.  I had on one half of a

    I also like the idea of buttons.  I'll have to talk to my hubby

     I had fun... tee-hee.. of course I paid for it big time when I
    got home.. Happy was easy.. she let me pick up,, got her new toys..
    but her royal higness.. SNIFFED ME AND IGNORED ME UNTIL 10 PM..
    Then she came and sat on my lap.. got her presents.....  she was
    not amused....... Cin thanks for introducing me to Doris Hook, and
    for letting me Cuddle with STRIPEES.... such a cutie.. and E.T.
    I did enjoy Sasha,, she is a shorthaired Pookie!!!!!!.. she is a
    charactor.... ,well gotta run..

    I agree with the idea of identifying ourselves.  I was there on
    Sunday, but like others, didn't want to wander aroudn asking who
    was from DEC.  I had the thought this morning of T-shirts - the
    folks in the Woman Notes file did that.
    
    I really enjoyed seeing all the cats.  I was looking for Russian
    Blues - didn't see any obvious ones.  But we did see a cat that
    I had never heard of - a Norwegian Forest Cat - what a beautiful
    creature!!!  Also, I fell in love with this little pure white fold
    kitten with blue eyes.  I wanted to grab it and run!!!
    
    Congrats to all who did well - it looked like fun. It didn't seem
    too cold on Sunday, but it was a nicer day all around...

    I had fun at the show despite the cold.  One of the exhibitors let
    me hold his gorgeous scottish fold -- I think she was a tabby and
    white -- beautiful cat!  Now I can't decide what I want next; a
    bicolor Ragdoll, a Birman, or a Fold!!  Ruth LeClaire had some
    *gorgeous* Chinchillas and Shaded Silvers that I wanted to scoop
    up and run off with!!  I was really impressed with her cats.
    
    Overall, it was a fun day!!

Gee Cin, you got into this notes file and didn't explain CFF's winner's ribbons!

Well, Nancy, I'll explain them to you.  The winner's ribbons meant that he was 
the best novice male altered scottish fold of his coloring.  I know, that's not
exactly what you wanted to hear, but that's how CFF does it. It's still great
that he got his championship, though. You're going to be at the plymouth show
on April 15th?  That's great!  I'll see you there!!

Getting second and best novice is FANTASTIC!!!  I know that there were quite a 
few altered novices at the show on saturday.  I specifically know of one altered
Korat novice that is absolutely beautiful.  He finalled in every ring last 
last weekend!  I was THRILLED!!!!

Congratulations on becoming a champion and all of your wins!  See you on the 
15th.

Ruth LeClaire does have some beautiful cats.  In fact, she is who I got Michaela
from.  Michaela's daddy was being shown in the alter class.  His name is
Suttonian's Shadrah Khan.  When you were at Ruth's cage you were about 3 cages
away from my babies.

I wish I had seen everyone.  I wanted to meet a few of you.  Unfortunately, I 
was working both days in the rings.  If you were watching any of the judging 
(which I am sure you were) on saturday I was the clerk in Ring 1 (Judge was Phil
Albert and on Sunday I was the clerk in ring 2 (judge was Carol Petell).  Too 
bad I missed you all.

    BTW, just because there was no competition within the breed, they
    are still judged against the standard.  If Dundee wasn't good enough,
    (i.e. scores 90 of the possible 100 points) a judge doesn't have
    to award the winners ribbons.

      I was hoping to make the Portland Me show on the 15th, but they
    won't allow Sandy (Thunder's mommy) to let me sub for her since
    she can't show.  She said the woman she talked to was a real snip.
    Its too bad that Sandy is out the entry money.
      Isn't the Plymouth show this saturday?  Listen, I'm dying to 
    show Dundee some more.  For one thing, I want him to have a few
    experiences close together so he stays used to this. If anyone
    knows of shows in the Mass area  (Or RI or NH or CT)  Please let
    me know.

    re: .24  What is a scottish fold.
      An absolutely delightful breed of cat who's most unique
    characteristic is ears that fold down.  Hence the name.  The
    have cute round heads, big round eyes, stocky bodies, plush
    fur and sweet, comical dispositions.  
      Folds fall into two categories - Folded-ear folds, and straight
    ear folds.  The kittens are all born with regular ears.  About
    21 - 28 days after birth some of the kittens ears fold and some
    of them don't. 
      Because the fold is the result of a genetic mutation and because
    the gene pool is rather small, it is considered a bad practice to
    breed two folded-ear folds together.  Breeders should pair a
    folded-ear fold with a straight-ear fold or with an American or
    British Shorthair.  Dundee's daddy was an American shorthair.
      Phil, if you send me your mailstop I'll send you some pictures
    of Dundee.
    
    re: which judge didn't give Dundee a winner's ribbon.  I think it
    was the female judge in Ring 4 (?).  I think there was only one
    other female judge and that was Nancie Belser.  She thought Dundee
    was great.  Ring 4 was also the only ring that didn't call Dundee
    for the finals.   But you can't win them all, eh?
    
      You know, Dundee is rather thin for a scottish fold, but I'm sure
    that's only because he's under 1 year old.  I expect him to fill
    out considerably over the next year.
    
      Thanks for all the info.  I'm really delighted that all those
    ribbons indicate that he really is a good example of his breed
    and not just that he didn't have any competition.  I'll have to
    check the program again.
