2329.0. "I WANT ham!!!" by GIAMEM::FINANCE () Mon Mar 27 1989 17:41

    Yesterday (Easter) I was at my mother's house preparing for Dinner.
    Pina Colada (really just plain Pina) was in the kitchen talking
    up a storm (she is siamese) becuase she wanted a piece of ham...well
    I gave her a piece of bread hoping to quiet her down and she said
    "NO..I don't want that" at least that is exactly what is sounded
    like. After that I had to give her a piece of ham and then several
    more after that.

2329.1my cat talks too!!CHET::MACDONALDMon Mar 27 1989 19:078
    Let's hear it for talking cats. We had a parrot when we got our
    kittens about 4 years ago and I was teaching the bird to day hello.
    Pinecone is a tiger and white cat and he learned to say hello before
    the bird did. Since that time I've heard him say many other things
    such as "where have you been ?" when I'm late coming home, "mama" ,
    and "I wanna eat NOOWW". Scarecrow his solid black brother has
    never said anything other than meow but is a very sensitive has
    to touch you cat. People think I'm crazy but I know my cat talks.

    About ham--

    Billie is the Dreaded Hamwort of our house. NO other food entices
    her like ham does! I know it's not good for her to have it too
    often, so I try to keep her "bits" to a minimum. But at Easter
    she also was a real pain in the butt---"Mom! MOM!! Ham!! NOWW!"

    Maybe it's genetic...

    Charm believes that whatever I am eating is worth sampling. She
    sits next to my chair while I have dinner, and in typical Siamese
    fashion, reminds me that she is waiting for a taste. "Mmrom?
    Mmrom? MMROM?" If I finally give her some (of course I always
    do) and she doesn't like it, she refuses to believe that what she
    got is what I was eating! She will look at me reproachfully as
    if to say, "Mother, this is *not* a part of your dinner. Please
    give me what *you* are eating!"

    I have turkeyholics. Nothing, even boiled lobster, entices the
    four as much as fresh cooked turkey. We practically set places
    for them at Thankgiving!!! Ian and I are lucky we get to eat any
    turkey at all!

    Wow.

    Thats the same as my baby!! Even if I'm sitting eating popcorn
    she comes up.. I have to be careful because half the time she'll
    eat *anything* i'm eating, even chocolate..

    Re. hamoholics.. maybe buy some unsalted deli ham..

    Mineral is like that too. Not only will she talk back to me in
    meow language, but she'll eat whatever's going. She loves dry roasted
    peanuts, toast, honey, tomato juice, cheese, curry, milk, soup,
    joghurt and we even caught her the other day sticking her paw into
    a cup of coffee to lick the left over grains!

    Guess what, I don't know if she likes ham or not!

2329.7Turkey-Ham anyone?CRUISE::NDCThu Mar 30 1989 20:3211
    Well, I haven't eaten red meat in about 10 yrs. Jack doesn't
    eat it either..so our kids have never had the opportunity to
    try ham. But I can tell you one thing.....the LOVE "turkey ham".
    They even know the sound of the deli-wrapping and it works better
    than the can opener.
      For those of you who've never heard of it, Turkey ham is turkey
    flavored with the seasonings that turn pork into ham. Its less
    salty than regular ham and I think its delicious! So do the
    furry foursome.
