2319.0. "More on Tree House Animal Foundation" by CURIE::COLAIANNI () Thu Mar 23 1989 17:53

I know that The Tree House Animal Foundation has been mentioned
in previous notes, but I thought I would start one specifically
    for this worthy Foundation.

From reading previous notes, I discovered that they would accept
coupons for any pet food, so I sent them some and asked them to
send me some info about the organization. I received a brochure
telling all about the foundation, and the winter 1988 Newsletter.

The newsletter has some real good articles in it, I read it at work
while having my coffee, and sat here and cried about some of the
stories! If anyone would like a copy of the newsletter, I would
be happy to copy both it and the brochure and send it to you. Just
send me your Mailstop and name.

There are a couple of things in the Newsbriefs section that I would
like to enter here though. Here goes.

COUPON REMINDER - With the constructio of our new addition, we'll
be increasing storage space on the lower level. This lets us order
large quantities of supplies at wholesale savings. Since coupons
only apply to retail sales, our need for them has ended. We can't
thank all you "super-snippers" enough for your hard work and support!

KEEP THOSE SCISSORS HANDY THOUGH! - Tree House can redeem starred
price markers from Gaines dog foods such as Gravy Train, Gaines-Burgers
and Cycle, as well as complete labels from Cycle and complete foil
inner freshness seals from Tasty Chunks for cash.

IS THIS PROGRESS? For the last 14 years, Patricia Torheim at the
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine has been using cats
in a study the university claims will produce "better treatment"
for head injury patients. About 1,000 live cats have had their skulls
shattered with a device that uses a .22-caliber cartridge to slam
a metallic disk into the cat's heads. Both the Humane Society of
the United States and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
have called for an end to these "cruel and irrelevant" experiments.

    can help.

I think the last one is one we should all take part in! Maybe if
we swamp them with concerned letters, we can make some progress
    here.

I know I've rambled on a long time here, but I thought this would
be of interest to some of the feline lovers and animal lovers in
    general.

2319.1Tree House Wish ListCURIE::COLAIANNIThu Mar 23 1989 18:2642
Here I am again. I forgot to add that they had a Wish List in the
Newsletter too. I will list the things they included on their list,
even if some of them may seem unrealistic to some of us that are
    far away from Chicago.

Small autoclave to sterilize surgical instruments ($750.00)

6 recovery cages for expanded Animal Treatment Center ($288.00 each)

    7 desk lamps

    Time clock

    Small sized commercial vacuum cleaner

    Paper cutter

Battery charger (Don't know if this means for small batteries or
car type batteries, but suspect it means small)

Rechargeable Batteries (AA and 9_volt) (This is reason for comment
                                            above)

Garden cart for moving heavy supplies

    Polaroid 600 film

    35m film (24 or 36 exposures):
    	TMax (ASA/ISO 100, 200 & 400);
    	Fujicolor or Kodacolor
    	  (ASA/ISO 100, 200 & 400);
Ektachrome or Kodachrome for color slides

    Postage stamps (any denomination)

Also don't forget about Digital's matching gift forms if you send
    a donation.

I've been a member of Tree House for a long time, and they are a good
place. I have some wonderful photos that Ellen Sawyer sent me of the
cageless, nokill shelter. Picture a bright sunny clean colorful area
with a gazillion cat platforms, carpets, etc. around, and every
imaginable type and color of cat stretched out in bliss.

I've also been a member for years! They are my FAVORITE organization.
    I think that's because they're so up-beat. I really feel like my
money and efforts make a difference.

I'm going to use this as a chance to remind folks that Tree House
is having a raffle! Contact me to get tickets $1 each. 297-2313.
      Thanks
        Nancy DC
