2286.0. "Boston Cat Hospital has Purebreds" by FSHQA2::RWAXMAN (A Cat Makes a Purrfect Friend) Fri Mar 10 1989 19:39

After reading note number 2261 and all of its replies, it gave me
an idea. There are a lot of people who would like to own a purebred
cat or something that looks close to their "ideal", but would
rather adopt one and give an otherwise homeless cat a second chance
    at a decent life.

The Boston Cat Hospital almost always has purebred cats that need
loving homes. I just called them and they routinely have Siamese,
Persians and Himalayans. At present, they have two very healthy,
4-year old Siamese cats waiting for that special person to adopt
them; one sealpoint male and a lilacpoint female. They are both
altered and up to date on their shots. The woman I spoke with
was extremely nice and encouraged me to call back about once
a month for updates, as cats come in and out of there all the
    time.

If the majority of noters feel it is a good idea, I would be happy
to call the Boston Cat Hospital monthly and keep this note active.

    What do you think?

    /Roberta

P.S. I hope I didn't offend any breeders. This note is geared
toward those who want a purebred cat but aren't concerned with
pedigrees and registration papers or if the cat has some mixed
    blood in the lines.

    Roberta,

I think it's a wonderful idea. I'm sure there are a lot of people
who want a purebred (or apparent purebred) but also want to save a
cat. Now I just need to keep saying to myself "Max is cat_max..."

Go for it Roberta! And if you want to check the Boston Animal
Shelter too (Angell Memorial) I think thats great. Let me know
if you run across any Scottish Folds (straight ear or folded ear).
     (tho I doubt you will)

Okay, I will make a note to myself to call Boston Cat Hospital the
first day of each month. Now, if there are any minority breeds
like Scottish Folds, Birmans, or Ragdolls, you'll never see those
postings in this note (cause I'll take them first!!). Rest assured
though, that when I asked the woman about minority breeds and gave
her the three examples above, she laughed and said, "NEVER!" She
also had some very nice things to say about breeders of the minority
breeds (and other breeds as well) and how much they love their cats
and would take them back before seeing them in a cat hospital up
    for adoption.

I'll keep this note active and perhaps it should be posted in the
    list of keywords as well?

    /Roberta

Roberta,
This breeder finds this note thoroughly inoffensive, and in fact quite
admirable.

What fries this breeder is *not* that someone would want a purebred cat
cheap, or that someone wouldn't be concerned with pedigrees or papers.

What *does* fry this breeder is people irresponsibly adding to the problem
of unwanted cats by breeding them for what I consider to be no good reason.

You aren't adding to the problem. You're adding to the solution.

I think this is one of the best ideas that has come out of this
    file yet.

Now does anyone out there want to call and offer these two wonderful
    Siamese cats a home?!!

    Roberta,

Great Idea. I would assume that the Boston Cat Hospital would make
sure that all these pedigreed cats are spayed or neutered.

If any of you are wondering why this note has been inactive for
awhile it is because the Boston Cat Hospital has no purebreds up
for adoption at the present time. I'm happy to write that the two
Siamese cats were placed in a wonderful, loving home (though not
    with a Deccie).

Still gonna keep this note going!

2286.132 Persians for adoptioFSHQA1::RKAGNOA Cat Makes a Purrfect FriendWed Apr 04 1990 15:1322
I bumped into a volunteer from the Framingham Animal Humane Society
on Saturday. They currently have two purebred Persians available
for adoption; a tortoisehell female and a solid black male. The
black male is about 6 years old and neutered. His owner didn't
want him anymore and was going to put him to sleep. He was severely
matted and had to be shaved. He is beginning to get along with
the other cats and enjoys all the attention from the volunteers.
I don't know much about the tortie female. I think she is about
2 years old and spayed. She is very shy, and was returned to the
shelter recently for that reason. The new owner wanted a friendlier
    cat.

Adoption day was Sunday, so I'm unsure if they are still available.
The Framingham Animal Humane Society is located on Oregon Road in
Southboro. For more information, call Nancy at 393-3427.

Adoption days are Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sundays,
    1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (I think).

I don't suppose the "dumpers" left their names so I can
go and hang them by their toenails huh?

JJ who *hates* hearing about stupid people like that.

The kitties sound beautiful. The black one sounds like
Samantha...the black persian we took in for a short time
but gave her to friends with a silver shaded persian.
(she's doing quite well by the way and I get to visit every
    	   now and then) =)

2286.15Please consider Elwood!FSHQA2::RKAGNOA Cat Makes a Purrfect FriendMon Apr 23 1990 16:0846
Yesterday afternoon, I stopped by the Framingham Animal Humane
Society to drop off some food and office supply donations. Also
stayed for awhile to visit some of the terrific cats they have up
for adoption.

Once more, a plug for:

Elwood - 8 year old black male (neutered) purebred Persian.

Elwood's owner decided he no longer felt like caring for him and
decided to bring him to the vet to have him euthanized. A caring
friend rescued him from an uncertain (and unnecessary) death and
brought him to the shelter. He was so ridden with matts he could
hardly walk or use the litter box. He was extremely
uncomfortable and nasty from the lack of movement and
bowel/bladder control. After being shaved down to the bare skin
and litter trained again, he became one of the most wonderful,
affectionate cats in the shelter. When I saw him yesterday, his
coat was pretty much grown in, and he has the most enormous gold
eyes and HUGE, round tufted paws. He is massively built. He
loves attention but when he's had enough, will give you a little
bite to let you know. Once he bit me a little hard but didn't
break the skin. He was playing like a kitten, rolling around the
floor with the kitty tease. His face is not extreme, just a tad
flat and very sweet.

My favorite, tho, was Alfie, a lovely 11 month old tabby and
white neutered male with big, lovely green eyes. He is also very
loving and has a long, soft angora coat. Perfect for the HHP
class in a cat show. And then there is Thomas, a neutered gray
and white Maine Coon look-alike. He is extremely sweet too. Oh,
and Alfie's roommate is a short haired tabby and white alter who
was one of the 130 or so cats rescued from a Framingham home last
year. He is shy, but loves attention and is very sweet.

I had to keep my hands in my pockets yesterday and managed to
keep cat max at 5!!

If you are looking for a new cat, please consider visiting the
shelter located on Oregon Road in Southboro. Athough there were
no kittens yet, there are several young adults awaiting a loving
home.
