My crew eats Old Mother Hubbard, preferably Liver & Egg flavor (yuck).
I think it's a high quality food, low in whatever for prevention of FUS
(ash, magnesium and ...), and has been recommended by two different
vets whose opinions I value.

We also used to feed IAMS but found the fat level too high, I was
starting to grow blimps instead of cats! Now we're on to Science Diet
Light and everyone seems healthy, happy and slimmer!!

I've heard good things about the Hills Science Diet. Available
    in pet stores.

I have a 13 year old Himalayan, Pinouch, that has a very sensitive
stomach. I was feeding him 9-Lives and he kept vomiting. I took
him to the vet several times and he said that Pinouch had a sensitive
stomach. So, I tried feeding him Science Diet wet food. It's been
over a year since I started feeding him Science Diet and he hasn't
vomited the food. His coat is nice and shiny and soft, and he's
healthy. For variation I feed him Science Diet (with a little warm
water) in the morning and IAMS dry food (with water and a tsp. of
    bran) in the evening.

2271.4The BEST food won't make Nippa pukeWITNES::HANNULACat Tails & Bike Wheels Don't MixMon Mar 06 1989 18:2114
I find this topic kind of interesting. Portia also has a sensitive
tummy - all she can eat is about 5 flavors of 9-lives or else she
pukes (which is why seh tends to get called Porty Puker). I had
questioned my vet about the 9-Lives, since I had seen some NOTErs
mention that they thought 9-Lives was junk. My vet said that it's
the best food for Portia since it doesn't make her puke.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should find a food
that Nippa likes, and doesn't get sick from, and stick to it. Try
the suggestions from other NOTErs. But you have to find the food
that is best for Nippa, not what's best for the rest of the cat
    world.

I'm not E.T., but I also endorsed Old Mother Hubbard (earlier in this
note I think?).

In MA, I have found it at Erikson's in Maynard, or at the UCF in either
Littleton or Fitchburg.

In NH, I have found it at Food For Pets in Amherst.

Good stuff, reasonably priced -- arrggh, don't ask what I just paid this
weekend since I just don't even ask any more!

you can go down to Lowell, MA where they make it or can it\
and buy it from their little store.

A suggestion: Try Triumph (wet) cat food. Its nutritional
information indicates it's good for the cat, and my cat eats it
    along with Iams.

My vet feels that the Hills C/D is the best on the market. C/D
is a prescription food, tho so you A. have to get it from the vet
and B. would ask the vet about it for your cat. I feed it to
all four kitties from ages 10 months to 11 1/3 years. If you
let me know when you're dropping by I'll be happy to give you
a can to try on Nippa. That way you can find out if Nippa can
eat it before you spend money on it.

C/D is formulated for special dietary needs and may not be the best
diet for a cat that doesn't have those specific problems. It is
has a lower calcium level than other Science Diet products, and
is higher in fat. Since you would have to buy it from your vet,
he would be able to tell you whether or not he feels her case warrants
    switching to C/D.

Regular Science Diet canned food would be a good thing to try out
    on her first.

Is the regular Science Diet avaliable in a pet store (or Trimuph
for that matter) or thru my vet? We are running out of her canned
supply, so a trip to the store is in order. Is this stuff expensive?

I have been buying the canned supermarket food as it went on sale,
but if it is going to make her sick, I'd rather spend more $$ for
a better quality food. It's funny, we spend mega bucks on the food
for the horses because they have such a delicate internal system,
sometimes, I overlook the fact that Nippa has these needs too.

I buy Science Diet at the "Pet Food Warehouse" here in Phoenix,AZ
for $.99 a can, but is is available at most pet stores for about
$1.29. Call first to save yourself a trip or to price shop.
I think the little extra money is definately worth it.

I buy Triumph (usually $.79, someetimes $.59) from Debby's Pet Land
in the Chelmsford Mall. I'm sure there are other pet stores that stock
it. It's one of the lowest in Magnesium and Dr. horowitz at Sleepy
Hollow said it was good in the other nutritional aspects, too.

Bonkers (15 mos. old) has been in our home for 3 mos. & his coat
now shines from head to tail, now that he eats Triumph in conjunction
with Iams dry food. An every other day brushing doesn't hurt his
long black coat, either. Oh yeah, on an ocassion we give
him a small amount of tuna or salmon juice as a treat. That his
    diet in its entirety.

I get the C/D for about $30/case (24 15oz cans) and that should
cost more than the regular Science diet. My vet feels that the
C/D is the best food and has me feeding it to all the cats from
age 10 mos to 11 yrs 4 mos.
Jo, I didn't know that it was lower in calcium. I wonder if I
should question the vet about feeding it to Dundee all the time
since he's still growing. (Of course Dundee gets a tablespoon or
two of cream every day so maybe that helps) The vet did have
Dundee on P/D when he was having his problem with chronic diahreah.

Here in Colo Spgs, you can get regular Science Diet, dry and canned,
in "wholesale" outlets much cheaper than from the pet stores. Our
normal source, an ice house, happened to be out of stock and so
they gave us a couple of cans of Old Mother Hubbard on trial. We
tried feeding it for a couple of days and all our three would do
was to try mightly to cover it up. We got the fairly strong impression
that they didn't like it. ;) Thank goodness we had S/D dry to tide
us over until stock was in.

re: burying food. Bumpy always tries to do that. She's been trying
for years to scratch pieces of the fridge over the food - guess
she gave up on the linoleum after trying that for a while.
