2212.0. "Recipes for your "babies"" by WFOVX4::BAIRD (Reality..for those who can't handle SF) Wed Feb 08 1989 18:01

I mentioned a few notes back that we tried some homemade recipes
on the crew. I got a note asking for a copy or two, so here goes.
These are from a book called "The healthy cat and dog cookbook":
Joan Harper. I found it in a health food store. Excellent book!

    Lentil stew with rice:
     1/2 cup dried lentils
1 1/2 cups brown or converted rice
    2 cups water
    2 cups canned tomatoes
    1 tbls kelp
    1 clove garlic
    1 carrot, chopped
3 Tbls oil or bacon fat or chunk of salt pork
    1 tsp bone meal

Slowly add all ingredients to boiling water and simmer for 1/2 to
    1 hour. Protein 13% Fat 13% Carbohydrate 74%

If your babies dont take to any recipe, add chicken or meat to it
and gardually decrease if you don't want them to have too much
    meat.

    Scrambled eggs and sardines

1 can sardines--use larger and less expensive ones
1 egg, lightly beaten with the oil or liquid from the can
    1 Tbls of wheat germ

Grase pan lightly with oil or butter and heat. Pour in egg mixed
with wheat germ and sardines (cut up). Mix gently as the egg cooks.
Cool to warm and serve with dry food or cereal.

There are lots of recipes for all sorts of food including how
to make your own dry food. We just haven't had the time to try
a lot of the recipes but eventually we will. They also have specific
things to give the cat or dog if they get sick, or get rashes or
even preventions for fleas!!! All in all, it is a very worthwhile
book even if you only have time to cook for yourself!

One remedy suggested for bladder problems for example, is epsom
salts , apinch aday for cats ,two a day for dogs. It contains
    Magnesium.

Well, have to sign off now. If you need any more info let me know.
