2189.0. "Crazies After Going" by CADSYS::GIL_PASSOLAS (CADSYS::GIL_PASSOLAS) Tue Jan 31 1989 15:24

Hi,

Have always wondered why, after my cat answers the "call of nature", she
almost always runs like a crazy person all through the house -- up the
stairs, down the stairs, into the kitchen, up the stairs again, etc.

All of the cats I have ever lived with have behaved the same way after
using the litter box.

Anyone know why? Strange things.............

Diana

P.S. She only does this after she moves her bowels, not when she urinates.

2189.1Worms??WORDS::STUDLEYTue Jan 31 1989 15:437
    Have her checked for worms. I had a cat (and a dog) who did this
    after a BM and it was because of worms.

    Your vet would know for sure.

    Bonkers has been acting that way, too. Is he telling me that he
    wants me to put new kitty litter in his box possibly? He was palyful
    before that but not like the same behavior as was mentioned in .0.
    His behavior is independent of going to his box or not, but is
    amplified when I'm cleaning it out.

    Holly does this, and always has. Is it possible that the vet could
    have overlooked worms for years? Is there a way that I can tell
    if she has worms? She is not underweight. I had always assumed
    she was just slightly yo-yo. (I've asked Stolkholm to hold up her
    Nobel nomination....)

    I happened to be ironing in the basement last night, so I had the
    "opportunity" if you will, to watch for this behavior. Sure enough,
    three out of four (the fourth didn't oblige me while I was there)
    ran around like idiots, jumping on the scratching pole, racing up
    and down the stairs, etc. I know they don't have worms. I wondered
    if it had something to do with "marking" the litterbox, and they
    just feel real happy about it or are showing off.

    Beats me, maybe like Edd says, they just feel good....

    My vet told me that cats don't use stool to mark. This was used
    as the explanation of why Dundee would use the big cat's box for
    "doodles" but peed on the rug at the enterance to the box.

    i've never noticed this behavior - tho this morning Mao (9 1/2 yo)
    was running around like a nut! I figured she was just confused
    with all this warm weather and thought it was spring. They do get
    a little crazy in spring even tho they're all spayed.

	 I agree with Edd. It's easier to run when you aren't crossing
     your legs!

    Ebony does it too and I've always wondered why. I alway thought
    that maybe he did a real 'stinker' and needed to get away from
    the smell/box real quick.....?)

    Unless you're a cat, we'll probably never know for sure......

    Mutu runs around the house, like a cross between a wild Indian and
    an elephant, before, not after! I think it's to get her "urge"
    going.  Takes a Siamese, right?
