2087.0. "An Early Christmas!" by MORGAN::MISSELHORN () Thu Dec 22 1988 13:54

Last night I picked up the catnip mice for our kittie's stockings (does
    anyone else do that?) while finishing up my shopping.

    As usual, I put all the bags in our room to be dealt with later
    on.

    About 10:00 we were standing in the doorway talking to a neighbor
    who was dropping off their key (we are tree, bunny, and lovebird
    sitting) and I heard bags rustling upstairs.

    Well, Melissa and Brittany, especially, can't leave any bag alone
    so I suspected that one or both of them were checking things out.

    I yelled up the stairs, "Cut it out, whoever is in the bag!"
    (everyone teases me for talking to them like children).

    After the neighbor left, I went upstairs and lo and behold, the
    little kitties were playing with a catnip mouse! AND, there was
    another one (I had bought 5) missing from the bag. That one was
    on the other side of the room. In order to get them, they had
    to take one bag out of another bag, take the packages with the
    mice out of the little bag, and go through the cellophane to get
    the mouse out!  Pretty smart!

    Well, with one kitty playing with (and hogging) the one mouse,
    I felt bad so finished unwrapping the other one they had taken
    out and gave it to the other kitty. At that point, Melody, who
    had been innocently(?) downstairs the whole time, came in so I
    unwrapped another one and gave it to her.

    The three of them spent the rest of the evening tearing around the
    house with said mice, knocking things over and managing to get
    pine needles everywhere!

    Just another typical quiet evening at home with the children.

    Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

    Barbara (Mom to Melody, Melissa, and Brittany)

2087.1Hide them!PARITY::DENISEAnd may the traffic be with youThu Dec 22 1988 17:447
       I sure can't bring in my kitties x -mas gifts before the day
    they are to be opened. There would be nothing left for x-mas!
    I have to hide them real good or they'd surely find them.
       Catnip must smell real good, even thru plastic, cabinet doors,
    closets, refrigs.........

2087.2*HAPPY HOLIDAYS*AIMHI::OFFENThu Dec 22 1988 19:4712
    I'm giving my three their treats on Xmas morning and then leaving
    for the day. I figure by the time I get back they will be snoozing.
    (I hope).

    Merry Christmas to Feliners and their furry friends everywhere.

    Can't wait to get back from vacation to read all the new notes
    about the Christmas Shenanigans.

2087.3Hide that nip!CRUISE::NDCTue Dec 27 1988 11:158
    I learned early on that one must HIDE all kitty gifts in a
    cabinet preferably on the top shelf. I don't mind them getting
    into their own gifts so much, but they also get into the catnip
    mouses and kitty treats - NOT TO MENTION THE DOG BISCUITS that
    I've bought for other animal friends. They are amazing in
    their ability to locate any catnip or food presents I've bought.
