2057.0. "Peacock Feather ?" by LEZAH::KARENK () Mon Dec 12 1988 18:12

    Can anyone help me? I bought a Peacock feather for my two "kids"
    at the Marlboro Cat Show. The cats loved it so much that in playing
    with it every night, they killed it.

    I'd love to get them a new one for Christmas. Does anyone know
    where I could get one? I checked out the local Pet Stores around
    my area, but I can't find one.

    Thanks,

    Karen

    I buy them all they time for my little guy and by boyfriend's kitty
    too. Pier 1 Imports on Rt. 9 in Framingham has them. They're about
    $.69 a piece.

    Well, if you're up to it, go to the Quincy Show this weekend. Martha
    will have them there for sure! It's at the Quincy Armory.

    Some flower shops carry them too. They put them in dried flower
    arrangements.

    What's with peacock feathers? Do cats like them and what do
    they do with them?

    Signed, ignorant!

2057.5They LOVE themMEMV01::CROCITTOIt's Jane Bullock Crocitto nowTue Dec 13 1988 16:3821
    Hi BJ--

    That's not so ignorant! I wouldn't have known about them, either,
    if it hadn't been for this file. I got my Billie one, and it's
    history now! So I was glad to see where I could get her a fresh
    supply.

    Cats *love* peacock feathers--mine likes to pick it up and carry
    it around the house, then jump on it; administering the famous
    kitty tush-hold, while tearing at it with the front paws and teeth.
    After that, she likes to chew on the "quill" end. If I don't watch
    it, she crunches it to shreds. It's kind of like those old men
    who don't really smoke cigars, they just chew them up...

    I generally don't give her the feather to play with unless I am
    around. I don't want her chewing the quill until she chokes on
    a piece of it.

    But do get your kitties one--they will go nuts!

2057.6Potential troubleAKOV88::BROWNEight (cats) is not enoughTue Dec 13 1988 18:5213
Beware the peacock feathers if you have cats like mine -- I also
bought one after reading rave reviews in Feline. My cats went wild!
Then they *ATE* the feather and promptly gave it back all over the
place! Maybe they are unusual in that they often eat new things,
much like a toddler puts everything new in their mouth, but it
sure had messy results (yuck...).

My advice would be to keep a close eye on them until you know how
they treat it -- chewing is fine as long as they don't swallow!

2057.7Another great cat-toyCRUISE::NDCWed Dec 14 1988 11:0011
    Another cat toy that my guys went wild over is something called
    "Kitty-tease". I've seen it advertised in Cat Fancy and Cats
    Magazines and I had the opportunity to purchase less expensively
    (they aren't really that expensive, actually) at the recent
    INCATS show in Boston. I was going to give it to some friends cats
    but as soon as Jack showed it to Dundee it because ours. The cats
    went nuts over it, especially Dundee. Its so much fun. Its just
    a short "Fishing rod" type pole with a string and a folded piece
    of denim on the end. But it bounces along most interestingly.
      I highly recommend it.

2057.8Cat Dancer is good too!SWAT::COCHRANEScattering like light.Wed Dec 14 1988 12:1911
    I second the "kitty tease". Not only do my cats love it, but the
    company that makes them is thoughtful enough to sell replacement
    string and denim!

    Another great toy is called the "Cat Dancer" It's a piece of
    wire with four paper-type thing tied on the end. When you wave
    it around it sort of looks like a bug flying. Boogie thinks it's
    "her" toy, and is apt to walk off with it while you're playing with
    her!

2057.9Feathers & Cigars, huh?FDCV13::JOHNSONWed Dec 14 1988 18:0812
    Hi Jane -- God how I laughed about the old man and his cigar.
    Brought back memories of a foster father. His teeth were
    always loaded with shreds of cigars.

    Thanks for the peacock feather info. I'll bet Cocoa would
    love it .... maybe he'd chew at it instead of Whiskie's
    tummy.

    Shops that sell silk flowers, huh? Thanks!

    I also recomment the Kitty tease and the kitty dancer. All of my
    gals LOVE them both.

    Nancy, you'll be able to get both of these things at the cat show
    this weekend.
