2038.0. "Gone to kitty heaven" by PARITY::WHALEN (And may the traffic be with you) Tue Dec 06 1988 18:34

Today is a very sad day indeed for me. I had my Maine Coon, Ruby,
laid to rest today. He was just about 3 weeks shy of his 19th birthday.
The leukemia finally claimed him. He had needed help for a while
getting to his dishes, his box etc., but he hadn't been in any real
discomfort. But the past two weeks were a real landslide for him.
It got to the point where you knew it was time for him to go.
He was placed on the slope of hill next to Tabby's grave (Tabby
passed away last summer from leukemia.)
I had to come to work. If I didn't, I'd be moping. At least here,
I have to work and try to keep my mind occupied.

                              Say a little kitty prayer,

                                                 Denise

Having recently suffered a loss, I can sympathize deeply.

                             LITTLE KITTY PRAYER

Small one, now that you have departed, I remember.
I remember the misadventures of kittenhood,
        When enthusiasm courted disaster at every turn;
But who could remain angry at the little furball,
Wrapped to a small pile of sleeping and purring fur?
Or when you were grown, could I forget the way
You would greet me? A meow, a head-bump, a cheek
To the leg, just to say "Hello." I remember the way
You played, even once in a while the kitten would
Surface in you as a grown cat. I recall you being
Spooked at the most trivial thing, and fascinated
By something I couldn't see. I remember the gentleness
Of your paws and the softness of your step. I remember
The gracefulness of your leaps and the ease with
Which you relaxed. The cries for attention, the need for
Solitude. The times you wouldn't be satisfied no matter
Which side of a door you were on. And I remember your love.

You have left me now, little one. Your place cannot be filled,
But then, with the memories, is it ever empty?

Walk proud, head high, to wherever good little ones go.
May you know happiness, and love, and a life of sleeping,
Prowling, exploring, and those thousands of things that kept
You occupied when you were with me.

May your pawprints be eternal, my faithful one.

    Steve Kallis, Jr.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of Ruby and Tabby. I also lost
an almost-3-year-old, Fuzzy Wuzzy, to feline leukemia in August
and a 19-year-old, Junie, to old age last week.

    Our thoughts are with you,

She will never *really* leave you ... she couldn't ... not with
all that obvious love. She was a lucky kitty.
    God keep you.

P.S. Steve I printed a copy of your poem. So beautiful! Thanks

Thanks so much everyone for your support. I know I can always
count on fellow cat lovers to understand and help another who is
in deep pain. No one in the world could realize how incredibly close
we were together. We were both very lucky indeed.

Re: .4 Steve, that poem was just wonderful, made me cry again,
but that's ok. I had to print it out to bring home to
the others to read to them.

                                        thanks, Denise

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I hope that you have many
pleasant memories of Ruby to help you through this sad time.
Perhaps, as soon as the vet says its safe, you can go to a shelter
and find some new companions. I know its hard right now to think
about getting other kitties, but when I lost my Kathryn (just short
of age 2) that's what helped me. The new kitties could never replace
her, but they were soft and warm and affectionate and I could take
care of them. They helped fill the hole in my heart.
      Take care.
