2037.0. "Mega-Cats" by CSC32::K_WORKMAN (P.I.A.S.O.M.) Tue Dec 06 1988 18:14

    Okay,

Now who really has the FATSOIST cat in the whole world.. My husband
and I feel that our oldest cat, we call him FATSO, is the most
humungest cat around. To date we haven't seen one any bigger.
Our biggest problem is that we can't get him to stand still on the
scales long enough to weigh him. My husband is guessing he is between
10 and 12 pounds. Besides being just a large cat, he is also FAT!
When he jumps off the counter, the house shakes! Also when he jumps
off the counter he makes this sound like his blubber just knocked
all of the wind out of his lungs. The vet says he could stand a
diet but doesn't seem unhealthy otherwise.

What we really want to know is: Are there more of these ROTUNDO's
out there? If so, got any clue as to how much he or she weighs?
I for one am interested to see how many fat cats there are! I have
three other cats and they weigh considerably less. I'm not too
good at guessing weight. 10 lbs? That seems pretty big for a cat.

We will try to get him weighed soon!

10 to 15 lbs? That's nothing. My Argus J. Pussycat, Esq. is a real fat
cat. He tips (over) the scales between 16 lbs and 22lbs (depending
where he is in his constant diet).

Chauncey is at least 15-20 lbs. Nikki is probably very close to
    that weight as well.

Your cat sounds like he would be a lot bigger than just 10 lbs.
(from the way you describe him)!! I love big cats.

The best way to figure out how much your cat weighs is this. Step
on your scale and see how much you weigh, then get off the scale.
Pick up your cat and step back on the scale again. Subtract the
first figure from the second figure and the result will be the weight
    of the cat.

Sounds like your kitty must weigh more than 10 lbs. My Noella weighs
just a tad over 20 lbs. And she looks it. When she walks across
the wood floors she can make them squeak, just like us big humans
can. When you grab her, you get these warm, wonderful rolls of fat
    to squeeze.
Diet? Forget it! If they could make vacuum cleaners with as
much suction as she has, they make a mint! And no bags to change,
    ever!

2037.7Prehistoric Sized + Fluffy = NinjaROSSO::SADLER_TEMPTue Dec 06 1988 20:0711
Ninja is approximately 17 lbs. Our vet said Ninja is not overweight
at all -- just big and muscular. He knocks over the chairs in the
dining room when he and his sister are playing. Sounds like we
    have burglars at night...

Ninja does not like to be picked up or carried at all...

We, too, have a massive *thud* when he jumps from the deep window
sill. The first week we got him, my husband kept thinking someone
was in the basement, or something had fallen on our roof (it was
just our graceful cat all along)!!

I've never actually weighed Fluffy, but Norman is 15 pounds (not
fat, just graceful muscle) and Fluffy is much heavier! Although
you can hear Norman walking down the hallway and Fluffy doesn't
    make a sound!

Both of them love to be held, and after a few minutes standing up
holding either one--the relief you feel when you put them down is
amazing. And the real fun part is trying to pick them both up at
    once.

101 lbs? Now this is truly THE FATTEST CAT IN THE WHOLE WORLD!
Does this cat normally live in a zoo? oh oh.... I see the last
one is really an L... hahaha It looks like 101bs, heeheehee.

We couldn't get FATSO rounded up last night to stick his fat rumpus
on the scales. My husband did some comparison with other things
in the house that we put on the scale and decided that his original
estimate needs to be increased by 50%. We think he is about 20lbs.
Im going to take the recommendation of standing on the scale with
FATSO then subtracting his weight from mine. We will do this tonight.

I went grocery shopping last night and when in the vegetable section
I noticed those scales they have that you weigh fruits and stuff
on... Gee I wonder if I could some how sneek kitty into the
supermarket and get him to stand in the scale for a minute or so.

Fatso doesn't like being picked up either. He loves to jump
in your lap and get pets if both of us haven't fallen through the
sofa but its hard to get him picked up or confined to get his weight.
    This aughta be fun....

And the winner is?? Did someone say their cat was 25 lbs??? Phew!

He weighs just around 17 or 18 lbs. Across from Whicket (who weighs
5 lbs) he really looks like a Giant! He will gobble anything in
sight - sigh - I really have to work at disposing of edibles where
he can't get to them. He checks the trash very thoroughly every
day (ie. garbage is all over the kitchen floor sometimes ;^>)

The late lamented Pumpkin weighed in at 26 pounds for much of his
adult life. He wasn't purely obese, either - just BIG.

This is an easy question, Eb (short for Ebony) just went to
the vet and weighed in at a healthy 15.7Lbs (he's got this little
beer belly the hangs down slightly when he's on all fours - it's
so cute). My other baby, Ivory, weighed in at a meek 8.1 Lbs.

The bigger, the better, there's more to cuddle!

2037.17He must be heavier than that!CRUISE::NDCThu Dec 08 1988 18:168
He must be heavier than 10 or 12 lbs. Our biggest cat is 10.5 lbs
and she is sleek and beautiful. Not at all fat. Perhaps one of
you should get a reading with and without Fatso on the scale. If
your subtract the combined weight with yours alone, you'll get a
reading of his weight. May I suggest Hills RD??? (Reduction Diet)
(Actually you have to ask your vet as RD is a prescription diet)
Good luck. He sounds like a character!

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.... OH MY GOSH.... We did the trick on the scale
with getting my weight (which I won't tell you) and then holding
FATSO and getting both our weights then subtracting mine. HE IS
RIGHT AT 21.5 LBS. Give or take a 1/4 lb. I couldn't believe it.
And we thought 10 lbs. HAHAHAHAHA...

That's much more like it. 8 to 10 pounds is normal. Our Tristan
weighs 10 pounds and is perfect.

Tenzing weighed 14 pounds up until a few months ago when we switched
to Science Diet Light Formula. I'm happy to report that she's lost
1 pound so far and looks better already. I'm guessing that a perfect
weight for her would be about 10 pounds since her bone structure
    is similar to Tristan's.

2037.20Tips on how to Diet!CSC32::K_WORKMANHand picked by Juan ValdezMon Dec 12 1988 20:019
Our vet told us a diet would be in order but with three other cats
eating too, its hard to keep him from eating their food! Anyone
got any ideas about dieting one cat with three others that don't
    need to diet?

They all don't eat at the same times so I leave the food out for
them all day. I tried just leaving food out in the morning and
at night but they got real noisy and spent more time than usuall
trying to get in the garbage!

There are some notes about this issue in here, but I haven't a clue
    where.

We have the same problem and have found a partial solution. We
switched to Science Diet Light a while back. Tenzing has lost a
pound so far (3 more to go) and Tristan (the thin one) hasn't
lost any weight at all. Whew! We were concerned that he would
get too skinny, but so far so good. We leave it out all day
because Tristan's a nibbler. It might work for you too.

Last night, when I was at my Mother-in-laws house, I decided to
weigh her cats. These two are monster.

Buckwheat weighed in at a whooping 27.3 lbs. and
Jasper weighed in at a mere 25.7 lbs. Let's just say that they
    are quite a handful.
