1972.0. "PREGNANT? How to tell?" by MDA::NEWSTED () Tue Nov 15 1988 15:42

My Pippontat, 7 a half months is getting a little fat. I think it's
normal, but my husband sais he thinks she's preggo. Is there a
way to really tell? Can the vet do a test? What is the jestaiton
    period for kittys?

Her nipples are pink and yes they show a little more but nothing
real different; i think the weight is winter-cat fat like my others
have always aquired before the winter, and shed right after.

I have only seen one cat in my backyard in the past month. She
goes out an hour a night. There's no tellin if it's a male/...

    thanks
    Nance

    Did she go into heat?

The cats nipples become pink and more noticeable at 21 days gestation.
By then, your vet should be able to palpate her and tell if she
is pregnant or not. When she is about 4-5 weeks along, you will
be able to feel the kittens move under her skin.

If the vet palpates her and she isn't pregnant, this would be a
good time to spay her since she is an outdoor kitty. Otherwise
    she probably will become pregnant.

O.K. Nancy I thought your husband didn't want Pipin to have kitties,
did you do this on purpose? I know you told me you would like her
    to have a litter.

Hi Cindy! uuhhh, well,,,,,guilty as charged! But, I really don't
even think she is pregnant. I never really noticed her go into heat
though she's seven months - they can go in late. Actually, we've
been procrastinating getting her spayed until after xmas because
    of $$$... i say if it happens...it happens ( want a kitten? )
and the way he is kidding around about it, i think he'd soften up
if she was....she does stay around the house ( i know, i know,...
the males are quick! ) How's Taffey? still home? I hope--take care

you called me on that one -:)

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...don't take this wrong!

I spent my summer, the worst tour of duty of my life, working at
the humane society....please don't have kittens! I mean if you
are sure you can have homes for all the kittens, fine, but finding
a responsible home is hard to do!

If she's not pregnant, and you want to spay her, I will loan you
    the money to do it!

    Most Sincerely,

Gee, reading this really makes me sad. If anyone wants a kitten,
there are tons and tons of them needing homes already. Have you ever
visited an animal shelter and seen how many cats and kittens are
waiting to be adopted? Many, many are killed each year -- they get
the death penalty for the crime of being born. Take a look through
this notes file and see how many are in need of homes. Look at the
classified section of any newpaper and count the numbers of ads for
free cats or kittens. It's heartbreaking. Why bring more into the
    world?

Please, please have your cat spayed soon.

    Linda

Just have to put my two cents in.... Went down to Nashua
Humane last night to work and took a peek in the room with ALL the
kittens. Makes my heart break and brings tears to my eyes? You
bet......!!!!! Every single one of them is the most beautiful kitten
in the world. The ones still in the cage with their mothers pulls
    the heartstrings even more.

Will they all find good homes? Maybe but maybe not. But
they all end up there just waiting .... and waiting.... and hoping.

The way I see it is if someone has a litter of kittens the
people that adopted those could have and probably would have adopted
from a local shelter or pound. The ones in the "cages" don't have
too many chances anyway -its a shame to even take more of the chance
    away.

If she's not pregnant I will help also with having her
fixed if you'd like of course. And if its a kitten you'd like I'd
be happy to give you a list of the kittens available in this shelter.

No Nancy I don't think hubby would let me have another, and Taffy
is doing fine. She stays around the area now and she only gets
out on weekends or when we are home.

Re: 6 and 7, she was just kidding about asking if I want a kitten
cause I already have 6 cats. But your right about there being to
many homeless cats and kittens and I'm sure if Nancy wants her cat
to have a litter she'd make sure she would have homes or keep them
    herself (right Nancy).
