1889.0. "Love at first sight!" by SQUEKE::JOHNSON (Calgon... Take Me Away!!) Tue Oct 18 1988 19:50

    Hi,

If I describe a cat, could someone possibly tell me what it's called?
I thought it was a Russian Blue but someone just told me that it
was not a Russian Blue and didn't know what it was. Here goes...

I saw a cat on a cat food commercial and I fell in love with it.
Ever since then i've been dying to know what the name is so when
I get married in two years, I can get the cat of my dreams without
my mother saying anything about it.

It is short haired and smokey gray. It has the bluest eyes. It
is not a Siamese, it has round, normal size eyes.

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks!
    Chris

Do you remember what the brand of cat food was? That might help
people here to better picture the cat.

In Europe, primarily England and France, there are the "blue" breeds that
are quite popular at cat shows over there...I cannot remember the names
but the Cat Fancy magazine ran an article on them approx. 4 months ago.
Get thee to a local library and see if they have the magazine and you
should see pictures of your dream cat...it sure sounds like that is what
you are talking about. Also try a good encyclopedia....darn, I KNOW
the name of the French breed, but I CANNOT remember it!!!

Doesn't the Chautreaux (sp?) have gold eyes?

I can see the commercial now....

It's the one I believe with all the kitties running around the house,
scrunching up the rugs, hanging in the plants etc. It looks like
a cat I saw at the cat show. Fur very dense, short, grey back ground
    with stripes, (__________ short hair.)?????????

    It's a dry food commercial.

(Those blue eyes will getcha everytime.!!)

COMMERCIAL: Friskies, I believe

CAT BREED: Yup, Chartreaux was what I was looking for, but if it had
stripes, that ain't it....this guy was BLUE and had a very short, dense
coat that looks like velvet. I could swear the cat pictured had blue
eyes, but as we get older our memory starts to go.....anyway, the magazine
article was interesting, and I loved the pictures of the blue cats.

I only remember that breed from looking at the same magazine
you did :^) One was on the cover right and no they had no stripes.
It was a solid coat and made me think of velvet too. I didn't think
this was the breed the originator was looking for cuz I remember
how I fell in love with the beautiful copper eyes.... I just know
how it feels to have something on the tip of the tongue and how
it can drive me wacky!!!!!!!!! I'm almost 99.99% sure you and I
are thinking of the exact same cat and I'm going to have to dig
up that magazine so I can make sure what color eyes..... :^0

                                                                  kim
1889.8Maybe??TOPDOC::TRACHMANE.T.'s ZhivagoCats....DTN: 264-8298Wed Oct 19 1988 19:4817
Maybe it was a British Shorthair, or did someone veto that breed
already?? Blue/copper eyes/dense coat. Didn't you say blue eyes?

I saw the fresh step commercial last night, and they had a
Silver Tabby/American Shorthair on - yummmy - he looked so
much like my Misha! They are such loves - I'm so glad I have
him. Brought him to Braintree to visit his grammy Sunday -
he was very glad to go back home as he thanked me for not
making a show baby out of him!! Some like it - and some don't.

sorry, i got off the track.\

Are you sure it was a purebred? Maybe it was a mixed breed domestic
something - maybe a household pet?? Whatever it is, it sounds pretty.

    Hi,

I just remember seeing this cat food commercial, i'd say almost
last year sometime, and there was a lady talking about the cat food
(I think she said, "I only feed my cat the best.."). She was holding
a solid gray, short-haired cat with sky blue eyes. I know for sure
that it wasn't a siamese and it didn't have any stripes in it and
    the eyes were definately blue.

If we do find out what breed of cat (It looks like a pure-breed
to me), where do I go about getting one? I wouldn't be able to
get one now because i'm still living with my parents and my mom
doesn't like cats (sore sport!) and also my street has a double
yellow line and the kids in their cars do about 60 going by my house.
So, in two years when I get married, I want to find the cat of my
dreams (I've always wanted a cat since day 1) and give it a good
home with lots of love and happiness! :)
The fun part is thinking up a name for it!

Chris,

First it was probably the British short hair I was thinking about, which
fits your description. Finding a breeder is no problem, just buy cat
fancy magazine or other cat magazine and look in the directory. ONE
CAUTION - you will need money - maybe as much as $300.00 AND a breeder
of cats will want you to promise to keep the cat "indoor-only"....at
least all breeders I've ever dealt with do...besides, you would quickly
lose your kitten to theft or being killed if you let it out.

Finally, I hope you find the kitten of your dreams, but please remember
to get it neutered or spayed BEFORE it can have more babies and keep
it healthy by regular visits to the vet.

P.S. other noters - thanks for coming up with that breed name - I was
going NUTS!!!
