1871.0. "Doomed Kittens.??" by FLOWER::BERUBE () Fri Oct 14 1988 13:37

Help !, My father bless his heart took in a stray cat this

summer, her ribs were showing and did'nt look well

except for her protruding stomach. well never having

had a pet he figured she must be malnurished as
he did'nt know wuch about cats because of him being
alergic to them he never had one, well he fed her
and within a few week all of her was plump and healthy
and the protrusion in her stomach disappeared about
a week later when she had her litter of kittens.
4 of them. Any way its been 8 weeks now and my father
is going to try and keep the mother in the cellar
but he's got two of the kittens left, both females.

Hes tried all the local animal shelters and it appears
they have an excess of felines and told him it is
possible they would be destroyed as it is difficult
to place females. My father dose'nt want that to
happen but does not have any choice unless he can

place them. if anyone can help please call me at
dtn 223-4630 or respond to this node. thanks

If you could give a little more info about the kittens it might
help. Are the box trained. Color?
                     Thanks,
                       Ken

Does your Dad know about getting cats vaccinated and so forth?
And getting the Mother spayed, so there won't be any more litters?
A good cat care book might be in order. Now that he's adopted the
Mom, he will have lots of good times to look forward to. (Maybe
she will be able to move out of the cellar into the house).

.2 with all due respect if you read the note carefully you would
see he is going to have the mother spaded, My father is allergic
to cats, the cellar is an alternative to outside or the shelter
which informs him that they will destroy the adult cat, therefore
the problem is the two remaining kittens
which the shelter says are eaiser to place but if they can not will
destroy them as well. My father does not want that to happen, again
he is allergic to cats but is willing to try the mother however
all 3 would be impossible as well as a threat to his health.

    regards,

.1 thank you for you input, the kittens are both female, one is

charcoal grey, and one is calico I guess grey, light grey, black.

they are just about eight weeks old and have lived in a box,

doubt they're trained they've been living outside in my fathers

boat, the mother cat put them there after a few weeks ?? my father

put a box with a blanket and all seem cozy. No medical treatments

       have been administered.

    Steve,

I have a suggestion for you if you can't find a home for the kittens.
In Andover, Ma. there is a Animal Hospital (Bulger Animal Hospital)
that has an adoption program for cats and kittens. They DO NOT
destroy the animals unless they are incurably sick or too feral
for adoption. I adopted one of my cats (she was 7 years old when
    I adopted her) from them.

I'll send you the phone number if you're interested and I'll even
take them to Bulger if you can get them to me in Chelmsford. I
understand its quite the drive from Fitchburg.
