1822.0. "Vanity - thy name is CAT" by BRAT::GERMANN () Tue Oct 04 1988 13:05

    Well, Bob is now 6 months old. Someone recently must have told
    him that he was beautiful, because he is driving us crazy with his
    antics in search of compliments. Now, he IS a beautiful cat - his
    black is like ebony and his white is as pure as new snow. But.....

    This morning, he sat himself in the middle of the kitchen table
    while we were eating. He was right in front of Margaret, his "mom".
    He gracefully wrapped his tail around himself and gently laid it
    in front of his front paws. Then he sat up as straight as a kitten
    can, with head held high. When no one oohed and aahed, he reached
    out to "mom" and put his lovely white paw on her hand. In the manner
    of all teenagers at that ungodly hour of the morning, she mumbled
    something incoherent. Bob was quite put out, stood up VERY tall,
    turned his tail to her face and stalked off to perch himself grandly
    upon the nearby stool. There he repeated his procedure of placing
    his tail perfectly and his head in the air. My male dog came over
    to sniff and Bob just stuck his nose in the air - probably saying,
    "What do YOU know - you're just a dog!!"

    I was laughing so hard I was almost in tears. Then my 9 year old
    son went over to him and told him how gorgeous he was. Well, that
    silly kitten actually *SMILED*. I swear he did!

    This is just the latest in vanity. He has taken to parading with
    his tail held high. He just loves that tail.

    My question - are all cats this vain? He is driving us nuts - what
    a ham.....

    Ellen,

    Just wait until Bob discovers the mirror. Portia sits in front
    of the mirror for hours admiring herself.

    And when I'm holding her, giving her pats, she'll stay in my arms
    alot longer if I stand in front of the mirror so that she can watch
    herself getting her affections.

     OH. yes the mirror.. Pookie preens in front of it all the time...
    when she returns from the groomer.. she immediately hops up
    on the bureau,, and gazes into it.. checks her self out...
    she does the same after I groom her as well.. she has also
    been known to "request that i "redo" her paws, tummy, etc if
    she feels they are not done according to the"Pookie standard"
    AHEM... AND also there is RIBBON/BOW she wears.. it must be taken
    off, whne she is groomed and put back on afterward.. in the same
    place !!!!!!.. and she will let you know if she feels you did
    not put it on right!!!!!!... . Tee-hee.
    regards
    Kate
1822.3... windows ...DNEAST::FIRTH_CATHYTue Oct 04 1988 17:268
    ............ and why have window reflections been left out. Smokey
    spends quite a lot of time in front of that reflection. Bandit
    will be in the same position, but it is obvious that she is looking
    beyond herself into the yard, while with smokey it is just the
    opposite. Could it be that male cats are more vain???????????

    Smokey is also far more intelligent in most ways than Bandit - he
    gets around her all the time.
1822.4That OTHER CatDPDMAI::BALLTue Oct 04 1988 17:416
    Funny, Corkie doesn't like that "other cat" in front of the mirror.
    I guess one of her bulbs burns dim from time to time, but the cat
    in the mirror better look out and not invade her territory!

    Koko runs, jumps and attacks the cat in the glass - that nasty cat
    keeps blocking her view of the great outdoors, so she tells me!
1822.6Announcing her majesty....DRFIX::IVESTue Oct 04 1988 19:2518
    At one time we had a lovely white female long haired cat. Her whiskers
    were sooooo long, and she had pink ears, a pink nose and gorgeous
    tail. She was so prim and proper. When she walked it was if she
    was taking small lady like steps. Everything she did was in a grand
    gesture, but the one thing that always bought smiles to our faces
    was, when we had company. Frosti would wait for everyone to get
    sat down in the living room and she would make her GRAND ENTRANCE
    into the room, go to the very middle, sit down ever so softly and
    curl her tail around her, and look at each individual to make sure
    they were seeing her. Of course everyone said what a beautiful cat,
    and if they new her would say, "Well miss Frosti, I see you are
    as beautiful as ever." As the compliments would flow she would half
    close her eyes as if to say, I know, I know.

    We miss her very much. She lived for 18 1/2 years and was beautiful
    to the very end.

    These are so GOOD! Last night, (I have another neice visiting)
    Needy (Ineeda Nuddacat is her name) stood up with her front paws
    on the shinny black door of the wall oven, and growled at her
    own reflection, which she didn't relize was her own!! Silly girl!
