1791.0. "A Final Search For Hope For Natasha" by TPVAX3::ROBBINS () Mon Sep 26 1988 13:49

Well from the prior note I can see that this week is going
to be a real doozie (sp?)!!!

It breaks my heart, even more lately, to see ALL these kittens
and cats and kittens and cats and on and on and on....... There
just doesn't seem to be an end to it these days :^(. And of course
helping out at Nashua Humane doesn't help to lift me from perpetual
depression. However as I myself cannot do anything for this one
special case the least I can do is to plead as a third party.

And so we go to Natasha. Natasha is the kitty whose story
is told in note 1641. For those who have not read that note Natasha
has been diagnosed as having FIP. No symptoms showing but still
in a bad situation. As the note says she must be the only cat as
the disease is so contagious. I decided to put in a new note as
I know that it took me over 6 months to figure out that last seen
even existed and I'm sure I missed many many notes that way. This
has reached a crucial point and did not want to take the chance
that maybe the person that could help would miss this note.

Time has gone by with no solution found. As I'm writing
this I write with a heavy heart because I know that if there is
no other alternative offered Natasha will be put down at 8 tomorrow.
I have been talking to Debbie Robbins ( who has been left to make
the decision) off line. She has no other alternatives. She has
two dogs and a husband who is allergic to cats. Granted yes she
does have FIP and yes some people may say its the kind thing to
do but.... After hearing Debbie tell me how hard this is to do
because of how loving and trusting and affectionate she is it tears
me up that Natasha can not find anyone. I'm sure there are those
that want only one cat and would keep her indoors. They may not
be in this file but maybe some noter in this file would know of
someone inside or outside of Digital that would be willing to give
    her a home.

This is the last plea for Natasha. Other noters have
commented that they would like to know what has happened to the
sad cases in this file. I agree with that and in accordance with
that there will be some with not such a happy ending. I'm writing
this early enough in case anything can be found before tomorrow.
If anyone has any ideas or help please send mail to TALLIS::ROBBINS.
I apologize now if I ruined anyone's day but I cannot bear to keep
this heavy weight on only my heart. I'll say a prayer that a miracle
may happen. I've seen it happen before many times. If not then
we gave it our best shot.
                                                                 Kim

I'm sure that people might be afraid of the medical costs of adopting
a sick cat. If it will help, I'll offer $100 toward any medical
expenses that is incurred by the person that will adopt her.

1791.4thank you, but she needs a homeTALLIS::ROBBINSMon Sep 26 1988 15:1814
It's very sweet of all of you to offer financial help
for Natasha, but that's really not her most severe problem.
I'd be willing to pay her medical bills, etc., so that's
  not the problem.

It's just that I can't keep her in my house. It's total
chaos between my dogs freaking out and my husband having
so much trouble breathing. And I don't think we can board
her because she's contagious. (Besides, if we were to board
her indefinitely, I think it'd be cruel. She'd be better off
put down, at least at peace, than living in a cage.)

So again, thanks for your generous offers and kind thoughts,
but what we need is a home for her.
1791.5Working our way backwardsTPVAX3::ROBBINSMon Sep 26 1988 15:3315

       Ahhh but Deb,

Sometimes you have to start backwards to get something
to happen. There just may be somewhere out there someone who would
LOVE to take Natasha but has reservations as to the medical bills
they may end up with if later on she should start to get sick.
If that's the case then what we are doing is trying to erase that
reservation by promising to allot a sizable sum just for that.
It may make the difference to someone out there that is considering
giving Natasha a home. I really really hope so. We're all hoping
and waiting. Time is of the essence at this point.

1791.7Could she learn to deal with dogs?TALLIS::ROBBINSMon Sep 26 1988 16:5920

> Has this been posted in Canines too????

That's a good idea, because she only has to be
 kept away from other cats.

My only hesitation is that she seems to hate dogs.
One of mine is mellow and kind-of goofy, and when she
gently and fairly slowly approaches Natasha just to
check her out, Natasha rewards the dog with a swipe
across the nose. (She reacts the same way to my other
dog who barks and barks at her--not surprising, since
 she seems to be deaf!!)

Do you think Natasha could learn to live peacefully
with a dog? I've never had this much trouble getting
dogs and cats to get along in the past--I guess I got
 lucky.

        Sandi,

I thought of that too but to tell you the truth I really
had to hurry to type this reply and the other reply. If there's
someone (sandi?) who could post this in canine please do!!! I
    can't at this point.

I'm going to delay on posting to Canine, because...

Deb Skaltsis found her a foster home!

I'll drop her off tomorrow night. We'll see how things work
out, so we know what we're dealing with before posting
  there.

Thanks very much to everyone who helped, and especially
Deb Skaltsis, Kim Robbins, and Joy Lanza.

1791.14she's at her new foster homeTALLIS::ROBBINSWed Sep 28 1988 12:5313
I brought Natasha to her new foster home last night.
She seemed to enjoy having a new home to check out!

Again, this is just a temporary home for her. Again
she'll be locked in a single room to isolate her from
other cats, which she does not seem to enjoy.
So everyone, please keep looking for a permanent home
  for Natasha.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out Natasha!
--Debbie

1791.15Again, she needs a home!TALLIS::ROBBINSFri Oct 21 1988 16:5825
Just when you thought it was safe to come back to Feline...
Natasha needs a home again.

Things have been working out well for Natasha in her foster home
with Joy Lanza. Three cheers for Joy!!

But, since Joy has another cat, Natasha's been confined to a single
bedroom for the past month or so. Joy says that Natasha seems very
happy, so I guess the confinement doesn't bother her like it used
to. Unfortunately, this situation is disrupting the lives of Joy's
(human) family, so Natasha yet again needs a new home.

Please, can anyone take Natasha in? Even temporarily, as a foster
home? (Please remember the restriction that Natasha must be an indoor
cat and must be isolated from other cats, although dogs are fine!)
If anyone knows anyone who can take in little Natasha (who, by the
way, is filling out, and isn't quite as little as she used to be),
please contact me. I'd be happy to transport her to a new home!

Thanks,
 Debbie
