    Hi fellow feliners, I need some help.
    
    I have always had a cat and know lots about them, but
    this is one problem I have yet to come across.
    
    A few months ago, I picked up a stray.  She was, I'd say
    nine months, starving, and almost full term pregnant.  
    About the third day I had her, she had a miscarriage.
    I don't want to be gross, but I want to explain this
    exactly.  She gave birth to something, it was about 
    five inches long, and inch and half thick, it was like
    a big blood mass.  I took her to the vets, where they
    induced labor and she had two dead kittens.  The vet
    cleaned her up and I took her home.
    
    Fine, right?  Well, about three weeks later, I went
    away for the weekend, entrusting the cat to my mothers
    apartment.  They managed to let her get out and we found
    her the next day.  I couldn't get her fixed right off
    the bat, it was too soon after her mishap (according to
    the vet).  Then I moved and things were confusing, plus
    I took a temporary job where I can't come in late (vet has
    wierd hours).  Well, for one reason or another I couldn't
    find time to get her fixed.  (Not that I was letting her
    out anyway).
    
    So of course she's pregnant.  From my calculations she'll
    be due October 8.  What I want to know is, are there
    any special precautions I can take to insure that she
    will have a safe pregnancy?  I already feed her Iams food,
    and tonight I am picking up special food for lactating and
    pregnant cats.  Plus mixing with canned.  
    
    I'm a little worried.  I don't want what happened to her
    last time to happen again.  
    
    Does anybody know anything on this subject?  Any help
    is appreciated.

    My sister's cat had the same problem that you described. Only
    she delivered 1 kitten (if you could call it that).  There was
    no form whatsoever.  The mother had a terrible problem afterwards.
    She was moping around "looking" for her kitten.
    
    Anyways, she did get pregnant later and carried full term to
    a healthy litter of kittens (5 in all).  And, yes, all were
    placed in very loving homes.
    
    I hope that this could help relieve your mind somewhat.  All this
    took place last year.

         I'd say her original problems were due to her young age.  My
    sister's cat had a litter this summer and only one kitten was alive
    at birth.  She was less than a year old and the pregancy almost
    killed her.  Your kitty will probably be just fine this time around.

    Your cat has every chance of having a normal pregnancy and delivery
    this time.  It sounds as tho you are taking good care of her.  I
    like to feed my queens either Science Diet Feline Growth or Iams
    Kitten Food while they are pregnant.  I would also suggest having
    her looked at by the vet during her pregnancy and have him monitor
    her condition throughout.

    Maybe this happened because she was young, but I would think her
    being undernourished during her prenancy played a major role!
    
    If she eats properly and has regular checkups, I think she'll be
    fine.
