As some of you know I'm still searching for Pretty Boy :^(.
I refuse to give up even though it's been over 2 months and no sign
of him yet. I stumbled upon a number in the Catmopolitan I had
at home. I've looked thru before and it just didn't catch my eye
I guess. I believe the name of the ageny is Pet Finder so I figured
I'd wait till I called before filling people in. The woman was
ultra ultra nice and informed me that they have been doing this
since 1976. She explained basically to me the way they work. They
take down all your info on your lost pet and put it in the computer
data bank. She said they get about 50 calls daily but alot of them
are people calling on found pets. They feed this also in and once
your info is in they run a match. If they have a match they call
you right away if not your file will stay in there for at least
6 months. Also the computer prints out a lost report that is mailed
to all humane societies, shelters, and animal rescue leagues within
a 60 mile radius of the area you give. The only drawback with this
is pounds are not included :^(. They also advertise in 18 nationwide
papers for lost and founds. The lifetime membership fee is $49
and is tax deductible because of being a non profit organization.
I personally think that if this is as worthwile as it seems that
the local humane societies should have this number posted somewhere
or give it out to people when they have a lost animal or found.
Well I'll see how it works.... Nothing can hurt at this point.

                 The number is 1-800-666-LOST.

Good luck to you and Pretty Boy. Losing one of my cats this way
is one of my worst nightmares, so I can imagine how you feel.
Perhaps he has been taken in by someone and has a loving home.

    >Taken in and has a loving home...

Two years ago I volunteered to watch a friends's cat for 2 weeks.
As she brought "Princess" to the door, the cat jumped out of her
arms and RAN like hell out into the woods. Gone. *poof*.

Yesterday I looked out the window to see what Aja was barking at.
    T'was Princess!! Fat and happy!!

Chances are good Pretty Boy is living the good life...

My sister-in-law's cat turned up living wild behind a butchers shop
3 years after it disappeared. It was in reasonable heath and lived

1740.5The other side of the coin...DRFIX::IVESWed Sep 07 1988 15:5526
As most of you know our Mocha was a stray. We tried so hard to find
his owners. We knew someone's heart must have been broken to have
lost a Ragdoll. We didn't know he was one at that time.

It will be a year the first of December. Needless to say I would
be heart broken now to have to give him up.

We do think about the people who lost him, and realize what a
heartbreak it must have been for them, to have lost such a sweet
heart, let alone such a valuable cat.

Each time we let him out doors I worry that this may be the time
he won't come back. We have given him a great home where he is
the center of attraction, and lavished with affection, and all his
needs and wants are taken care of. I guess I have to ask this
question...... If you have lost a cat and after some time heard
that other people had taken it in and the people were attached to
it, and had made a good home for it, would you leave it there or
reclaim it? (I realize this will probably open up a can of worms!)

    Barbara,

I can answer you on that one :^). You see if you read
the whole saga on Pretty Boy from when he came to me etc..... you'll
see in my case what I wanted for him was to be in a good home.
I could not keep him but now that he left the home I found for him
(which was the worst home!!) if I can find him I will keep him no
matter what. If someone has taken him in all I want to know is
that he does have a good home. I thought of that also and on the
posters I put up I made sure to put "If Pretty Boy has found a place
in your home and hearts please let us know so we can stop searching"
So in my case it would work out fine if only I knew.........:^(

Now as far as under normal circumstances I think with me
it would depend how long it had been... If it was a case of a month
maybe two I would probably want my kitty back with me. If it had
been 6 months to a year that I stumbled upon his new home I couldn't
allow myself to put his new owners under such heartbreak. I guess
maybe I would have gotten used to the fact and would be so happy
that someone had taken him in and given him love that I couldn't
    penalize them for that.

Last weekend a friend found a cat lying on Old Westboro Road, in
Grafton. Cat had been hit and left for dead my some unfeeling asshole,
but was just banged-up and had a dislocated hip. Cat is doing fine
at friend's now and vet has relocated hip.

If anyone lost a cat in this area recently, drop me a note.
