| I share my abode with a Russian Blue and have purchased another
one for my mother.
My Blue, Seamus (born on St.Pat's Day), is a loveable 6 and 1/2
year old neutered male. He is a real sweetie. He acts as the official
greeter in our house. If you come to the door, he is right there
to say hello. My mother's Blue, Dickens, is altogether different.
He is a 2 year old neutered male. Not nearly as friendly to
outsiders, but affectionate to my mother. Both are definitely the
"cock of the walk" in their respective houses.
I have always heard that Siamese are very vocal and Russian Blues
are very quiet. Seamus talks up a real storm. If I just say hi
to him as I walk by, he answers back.
From my experience with these 2 Blues, I would say I have never
seen them act "off the wall". It is always possible that the one
"crazy" cat had something wrong with it.
If you are interested, I will give you the name of the breeder from
whom I got both cats. Neither has papers. I paid $25 for Seamus
in 1982 and $100 for Dickens in 1986. You can contact me at
GIAMEM::FOLEY or DTN 296-3289 or FOLEY @BPO.
My conclusion would be that the Russian blues are wonderful cats.
But then again, I think all cats are wonderful!

| Hi Jeanne, Cali, and Sam --
I have lots of Russian Blues (breed them, show them, love them,
etc.!) and so I am not necessarily objective when I say that they
are GREAT! Note 1720.1 seems pretty typical. As for the "off
the wall" comments...Two of my cats *cannot* be shown, because
they hate it and really act up, but these same two cats are among
the sweetest at home. One always comes when called, and purrs
louder than all the others combined, it seems. She also "melts"
in my arms when I hold her. The other one is a shoulder-rider.
Sometimes R.B.'s are shy around strangers, but around "their"
family/friends, they are terrific!
There are 3 breeds that only have blue colors (and the R.B. has
silver tipping that is quite special, a rather silvery sheen):
Russian Blue
Korat (Holly Taylor, another FELINEr, has some)
Chartreux (a "chunkier" cat than the Russian or Korat)
The "British Blue" is a British Shorthair that happens to be
blue...other colors or patterns are possible. The same is true
with other breeds, for example, there are Blue Orientals,
Blue Turkish Angoras, etc. The British Shorthair is also a
chunkier cat, and so it might look more similar to a Chartreux.
If you ever want to come visit and look at the Russian Blues
please let me know. (This is not a "sales call" as I have no
kittens available now. However, I do have 2 older spays in need
of a new home, and I know of two young neutered males that might
need a home...)
Pennie, Coo, Kosh, Karma, Frosty Man, Cosette, and Fantine.

| Pennie,
I have seen pictures of Russians in my cat books, and they really
look blue! My fiance thinks the idea of a blue cat is really neat
but I keep telling him that blue means grey in the Cat Fancy.
I'm really sorry but I don't remember what your Russians looked
like from the Springfield show. Do they really have a bluish cast?
The ones in the book sure are pretty.
