1656.0. "where to put litter box" by CLEVER::SULLIVAN (Eileen) Fri Aug 12 1988 17:57

Where do you keep your kitty litter box ? Bathrooms are to small,
I have kept it in the spare bedroom but with all this heat it is
too hot up there. I was thinking about the kitchen, do you think
the kitchen is a gross place for cat's litter box ?

I forgot to mention, Sweet Pea is to small to go up and down the
stairs so spends most of her time alone (to be near litter), Stanley
is being declawed next Wed. and the stairs would be painfull for
    him for a while.

We have four litter boxes. Two in the bedroom, one in the spare
room, and one in the basement. Since the two in the bedroom are
the most popular, you can bet all the boxes are maintained frequently!
We do not keep one on the first level where the kitchen and living
are because of one of our dogs. If he sees one he will try to use
it but always misses. Too messy! The last house we lived in we
kept one box in the bathroom (only had two cats way back then).

A friend of ours had a neat idea. He has a vanity with drawers
and doors in one bathroom. He took out the bottom drawer, and cut
a hole between the drawer and the compartment with the door. The
cat gets in through the drawer tunnel and hole, and he can get to
the pan through the door. Works very well.

1656.5In the kitchen, but not by choiceWITNES::MACONEFri Aug 12 1988 18:4916
Portia and Oscar's litterbox is in the kitchen. We kinda had no
choice. I refused to put it in the bedroom our living room because
they are both carpeted. And the bathroom has no possible place
for a litterbox, except in the tub and I refuse to move the box
whenever I want to take my shower. So, the litterbox is in the
kitchen, in a corner between the stove and the wall. We haven't
had a problem at all. I use the expensive cat litter that smels
nice, use plenty of baking soda, and keep a stick-up on the wall.
I guess I'm also lucky in that both cats go outside and really prefer
the neighbors garden to the litterbox. It's actually quite funny
-- I get home from work and it's as if both cats are sitting there
with their legs crossed, they just shoot out the door, and run for
the garden. I could probably go a month between litter changes
since they only use the box in emergencies.

I used to keep it in the coat closet downstairs; but Bob kept walking
around asking everyone if his coat smelled like kitty litter and
kept insisting that it did! So, its now located in the garage,
which seems to work out just fine.

    Well with five-
    one in the bathroom,
    one in the cellar
2 on the glassed in front porch when its open(not in winter)
    4 in the kitty bathroom

The kitty bathroom is a large linen closet which had top and
bottom doors. I took the bottom doors off put boxes in and
hung curtains instead of the doors.

I have had them in every room of the house. I usually try for
rooms without carpets so I have used the kitchen.
