1579.0. "need cat repellant for new furniture" by BPOV06::MACKINNON () Mon Jul 25 1988 13:57

Help!! My mom is reupolstering her living room set, and
she does not want the cats to destroy this one. Can anyone
reccommend a product which "effectively" repels the cats?
I have heard of a few,but they are pretty expensive to buy
if they do not do the job. Can anyone help? PS. whatever
it is the product must not stain fabric!!
    Thanks in advance!!

What about scratching posts? There must be a zillion notes in here
about how to get cats to use them. Also, throws for the furniture
    can help, also.

I used Hartz 'NO!' for my mom's house. You have to spray it on
a piece of paper or cloth, let it dry and put it where you want
the cats to stay away from. It needs reapplying every 24 hrs, i
think, but it really does the trick! Also I use paper because it
seems to dry faster(once it drys it wont stain material, accord.
    to the can).

It took awhile, but we trained Nippa not to go on furniture. She
has the whole basement and 2 chairs which are hers', the rest are
ours. The only time she breaks her training is when she wants
    attention....

    I hope this helps

How did you/your Mom ever make out with the new furniture? I tried
that cat repellant stuff (it was citronella, same as for mosquitoes)
and it didn't work at all. You've just gotta retrain 'em entirely.
Scratching post soaked in catnip spray, and watch kitty like crazy.
     Not at all practical.
