1552.0. "LOST CAT -- $1,000.00 REWARD" by WITNES::MACONE () Fri Jul 15 1988 12:00

    WHO IS STANLEY?

    Reprinted WITHOUT permission (of course) from The Townsend Common

    	Where is Stanley the cat? His owner, Debbie Horn, hopes the
    two-year-old feline has simply gone off on a summer expedition,
    as tomcats often do.

    	"He's not an indoor cat," she says. "He has never strayed before."

    	Right now he may be the mst powerful cat in town -- he can make
    his finder $1,000 richer. Debbie sent out a flyer to town residents,
    offering the reward after she decided he must have left his home
    on BayberryHill Road. She has also placed two advertisements in
    _The Townsend Common_.

    	So far she has had a few calls from people who have seen a black
    cat, but so far it hasn't been short-haired Stanley.

    	When asked why she is spending so much money to retrieve the
    cat she replied, "It's my cat. That's it!"

1552.1THIS IS NOT, REPEAT *** N O T *** A GOOD IDEA!!!!!SWSNOD::DALYSerendipity 'R' usFri Jul 15 1988 13:1917
    Last summer someone in Marlboro offered a big reward for their lost
    black cat. They posted notices up on all the utility posts in town.
    As a result, my black cat and the black cat down the street were
    snatched from their usual "hunting ground" and taken several miles
    away to the house where the cat was lost. When the two cats were
    found not to be the lost cats, the "bounty hunting" SOB that
    snatched the cats in the first place just dumped them. My guy finally
    came home after a week. The other kitty never made it. There are
    some people who will only think of the money, not the cat. The
    reward apeals only to their greed. I figure the bigger the reward,
    the greater the number of jerks will be pulling kittys out from
    under cars by their tails just on the chance that they might get
    the reward. How far is Townsend Common from Marlboro? I figuure
    a $1,000 reward will probably be responsible for the stealing of
    every dark cat within 40 miles.

1552.3ID collar not always a solutionSWSNOD::DALYSerendipity 'R' usFri Jul 15 1988 13:558

    I will only use the "break away" type collars for the name tags.
    I have put this type of identification collar on my Shawshie several
    times. The longest any one of them lasted was 2 days. I believe
    he has learned how to get them off.
