1397.0. "LOVING KITTY FOR ADOPTION" by CYGNUS::KENNEY () Mon May 23 1988 16:40

I am entering this note for a friend. Please call her
    directly about Robby.

Robby is a 16-month old neutered male buff-orange tiger.
He is flat-coated and has had all his shots and been tested
    for feline leukemia.

Robby is gentle and friendly. He gets along well with other
cats and rides well in a car. He is box-trained.

When you go outside, he follows you around like a little dog and
    just stays near you.

Robby was a stray that was taken in but can't be kept by the
person because she has a very small apartment and has two cats
    of her own.

Please call Diane directly at 617/277-1128 to learn more about Robby.

1397.1orange males are super kittiesSSMP20::DALEYMon May 23 1988 17:0310
I don't know this little kitty personally, but I think little
orange, neutered males can be ever so wonderful!! I have 2 of them,
my mother has one, my friend has one (sounds like a Seiko ad, doesn't
it??) and everyone of these cats is sweet natured and extremely
    affectionate!

Hope he finds a home soon - his next owner will be a lucky person.

Robby and his foster mom are in Allston but I'm sure she would
drive him somewhere to introduce him to you. Again, Diane will
be happy to talk to any prospective adoptive parents.

    re .1

I'm interested in your comment about yellow tiger male cats.

For about a year, I took care of a stray yellow tiger male. He
was then about 6 years old and hissed at everything, so that I
was afraid to pick him up and I wasn't able to trap him. I was
really cautious because he sounded so fierce.

One night in a terrible rain storm, he was waiting for his dinner
and I just didn't think I just grabbed him. He hissed like mad
but never scatched or bit me!!!

My brother adopted him (his name is Pumpkin) and he IS the sweetest,
most affectionate cat I have ever seen.

Maybe it does have some thing to do with his being an orange tiger!!

We, too, have a male orange tiger, sort of adopted/on loan. He
really belongs to my brother and sister-in-law, but they can't have
    cats in their new apt.

    Petri is such a little lovey -- always wants to be with people;
you don't have to pet him, he'll just sit in the middle of the room
& look at you & purr. He is *very* shy, though. He'll disappear
when strangers are around. He'll also hiss at you (& the dog, of
    course) if you startle him.

Could this really be a trait of orange male tigers, or are we just
    all lucky?

1397.6Your luck will change if you are owned by one!EDUC8::TRACHMANWed May 25 1988 13:248
Well, they say it's the red gene! I, too, have an orange baby boy.
Words can't describe how sweet he is! No matter how much trash
he gets into, how many times he crawls onto the bottom shelf in
the fridge, how many steaks he snatches off our plates, he is
really a doll baby. Anyone that is owned by one, IS lucky!

I am doubly blessed and have TWO orange males -- Punkin Head is a stray
that Pat Murphy matched me up with, and he has to be the most cheerful
friendly cat ever created. He has had a Great Dane come charging across
the vet's waiting room to say Hi (Punk was just being held in my arms,
no need for a cat carrier with him), and the cat just purred and rubbed
against the dog's face! We had a party last Fall with about 45 people
and he visited each and every one personally, sat in their laps and
purred and 'made bread' and was your basic show-off.

Based on all this success we adopted a second orange stray, who is the
world's cuddliest cat with people (sleeps on my pillow at night with
a paw draped down my face for contact) but who clearly wants to be an
only cat. He is downright nasty with all the other cats and blood has
been shed by all! He tolerates the dogs but they aren't exactly his
favorite housemates; at least they're better than cats from his point
of view.

We had been told that orange cats are 'the best', don't tell my other
cats that it may be true!

                           -< Orange neutered males >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I meant by "orange, neutered males are wonderful" is that
I have been very lucky with every orange male cat I have come across.
(Of course, other people will swear by other colors or breeds, but I
especially like orange ones.) I have 7 cats - of various colors -
but the two most affectionate **by far** are my orange males.
Someone once said to me long before I ever got Murphy and Francis,
that I should become acquainted with an orange male cat and my
    life wouldn't be the same.

Well I didn't go out of my way to get an orange but they came to
me. First Murphy as a sweet @ 8-week old kitten who wandered in on
a rainy night off the railroad tracks and then Francis who came to
me as @ a 6-year old stray. They both now live with me. In between
I also fostered, Dandelion - who was "extremely affectionate" and
    was later adopted; Shaffer, who was just as affectionate as Dandelion;
Harvey - who was adopted by my mother because she couldn't resist
his sweet personality. This was in the space of a year. Then my friend
adopted an orange male cat - who rates right up there in the affection
    giving space.

I just happen to have a special place for orange tigers,( but I would never
turn away a black/white/grey/brown/etc cat in need. That is
obvious because my other cats are various colors and they are dear
    to me as well).

Well - these are just my thoughts on "orange males" - but of course
they must be "neutered". I like all cats in general but "oranges" in
    particular.

                     -< I vote for the orange/white too! >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I too always picked the orange/white tiger kitten out of the
litter to adopt. My daughter now has a orange/white neutered male
"Brewster" and he is the most sweetest/loveable cat anyone could
want. She has three cats: large neutered black/white male - not
very sweet, small gray/white female - skiddish and then Brewster,
he by far is the nicest of the three.

Well, so that's where all the *sweet* orange tigers went to!

When I was just a wee thing (about 7 years old) our calico cat had
kittens. One kitten was an orange tiger - long and gawky and rangy
    - the only *ugly* kitten I've ever met! He went to live with my
    grandma, grandpa and Aunt Judy.

He was viscious! He shredded: dogs, cats, and other people! They
eventually trained him to not shred folks that didn't touch him
first, and with some of us he was even affectionate (on his terms,
of course, and otherwise you would be missing some flesh) but he
    was NEVER sweet!

On the other hand, my grandfather loved him dearly, since in the
fourteen years of old Buffy's life, Gramps never had to clean dog
crap off the lawn or shoo away the neighborhood children ;- ) For
rendering this vital service, Buffy got Cheerios (his favorite)
each morning for breakfast along with his breakfast!

I had a similar experience as did .9. Tyler was an orange kitty
with all the appropriate white that seems to show up so often on
orange kitties - chest, tummy, feet, chin. However, sociable he was
not. His idea of a good time was either eating or playing outside.
About the only thing people were good for, in his mind, was for
opening cat food cans and the door! Cuddles were not even something
    he would tolerate.

Well, FWIW, Pumpkin was a pusseycat...a 26 pound pusseycat. We used
to refer to him as "you bag of garbage", for reasons which would
have been obvious should you have seen him. He was a VERY friendly
    and pliable guy, however.

Now that role has been taken up by Max - PURE black.

Monty was a red tabby longhair, neutered, and never scratched anyone
    in a longish life.

My sister and I used to dress him in dolls clothes and push him
around in a pram - sufficient provocation for even the sweetest
natured cat - and he put up with it all and even pretended to enjoy
    it.

I'd love to take him but I have a 20-year old whose doting dad says

    Did Robby ever get adopted?

1397.16Alex, a.k.a. RobbyCECV03::CRAINEFri Jul 15 1988 18:3334
I am very sorry for not replying to the question of Robby's adoption
until now, but this is the first time I have been in notes for a
    very long time.

I called Diane upon reading the first note about Robby -- I have
always had a passion for orange tigers -- and she delivered him
to my house. I had been thinking about getting a second cat for
a while to keep Willy (my dark grey and white female 4-yr old
stray whom I've had now for a year) company.

WELL, Willy hated Robby. She would charge at him and try to rip
his face off. This went on for a week or so straight and Willy
stopped eating and would not go to the bathroom and was basically
one miserable cat. Robby, on the other hand, would put up with
Willy's antics for as long as he could and would then fight back.
However, Robby was very affectionate towards me. He would curl
up in my lap and purr -- he needs a lot of love. Willy would have
nothing to do with me. Willy is one very spoiled kitty.

Well, I could not stand to see Willy so unhappy so I decided that
I had to find a new home for Robby. (Diane was willing to take
him back) My parents said that they would take him -- which they
did. They re-named him Alex. They kept him for a few weeks only
to find that my father was extremely allergic to Alex.

So.... Alex is now back with me and Willy. There were a few
squabbles at first, but I think Willy realized that Alex was
here to stay. I think they might become friends. The other
night Willy was laying on her back -- she was a little warm
from the heat -- and I watched as she gingerly reached out
and poked Alex's tail. He just turned his head and gave her
a smile as if to say, "I knew it was only a matter of time."
