1339.0. "A Sticky Situation..help" by USMRM2::ESILVA () Fri May 06 1988 14:40

New neighbors just moved into our condo complex (there are only
4 condo's, so its not a big place). They've been there since Sunday.
They have a dog and 3 cats. We have a huge back yard and live on a
pretty busy street. I chatted with them the other day and found
out that they permit their cats to go out (my two are kept strictly
inside). This bothers me, especially since one of the cats has
been hit 3 times by cars, had a broken pelvis, broken legs and another
one has been hit also. Also, there are MANY dogs that roam the
neighborhood. I am afraid for the cats safety, because of
the cars and all the dogs. I am afraid that some morning I will go
out to start my car and a cat will be up under the hood (I started
beeping my horn before I start the car; the neighbors must think I'm crazy!)

Should I say something to them? How do I handle this? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Erin

I know it is hard to keep quiet when an animals life and safety
is at stake, but what can you do? Nothing. You say their cats
have been hit several times, well I don't that being too intelligent
of them if they still let them out. I am on your side all the way.
But really there is nothing you can do.

If I were you, I wouldn't get too involved because you do have to
live next to eachother. I am in a similar situation right now,
I am trying not to let my feelings show to much about a cat
that might be place in an unsuitable home (unsuitable in my
dictionary). I guess all you can do is thank GOD that your kitty(s)
have a good, safe, loving home. I am sure if you ever see a dog
chasing one of their cats you will do all you can.

    Good luck!

I, on the other hand, am the type who usually opens her mouth
regardless of the fact that it's usually none of my business ;-).

Once and if you become FRIENDS with your neighbors and feel more
comfortable discussing this and that, why not give her either a
verbal or printed rendition of the high points of the indoor/outdoor
controversy topic as discussed in this file (I know it's "internal
use only," but a 'rendition' of the info. therein wouldn't really
    ruffle any feathers, would it?).

Get some peace -- I know you'll be busy praying...

Well, gee, have you contemplated contacting all the dog owners
in the neighborhood and telling them to keep thier dogs in? Or
maybe you should start a campagne to ban automobiles from the
roads...or better yet we should all be imprisoned in protective
shells so that nothing bad ever happens! --- the point is: bad
things do happen to us/our beloved pets and we unfortunately don't
have the control we would like. Handle this by being thankful
to God that you do have control over your OWN pets safety/life!
( and keep beeping when you get in the car --- THAT is a good
    idea )
