1320.0. "Is Kitty dreaming?" by VLS5::ALEXANDER () Mon May 02 1988 17:30

Every so often my kitty Yaddie will wake me up in the middle
of the night with a serirs of cries, one right after the other...
This happened last night and it occured to me that if I write in
I could get some idea of what is happening from the noters...

It always hapens under these circumstances...

She will have fallen asleep down on a chair ( instead of in the
    bed )
    It's always between 3 and 4 A.M.

She ends up in our bed cause we call her.

I think she is having a nightmare and is spooked when she wakes
    up alone...

Could she be dreaming? of something frightening? Any similar happenings
    with your kitties???
She always comes right upstairs when she hears my voice and stays
close by the rest of the night...
I wonder if cats have nightmares...

I think cats dream and have nightmares too. She probably
unconsiously realizes you aren't near and therefore calls for
    you.

I read in some magazine the other day that "they" say cats
don't purr when alone. Now is that cat zen?

Cats dream. Both Merlin and Karamaneh "run" and "pounce" while
asleep. Merlin even talks in his sleep, occasionally, and does
    the feline equivalent of snoring.

When cats are _truly_ alone, nobody knows _what_ they do.
