1304.0. "This Cat needs your help!" by OTOU01::PAQUIN (GO AHEAD CALL THE OPERATOR) Tue Apr 26 1988 18:18

Hi! cat lovers I have a question but if it's been already ask please
point me in the right direction.

My parents own a blue gray persian cat and it's about 1 1/2 years
old.The problem that they have is this, when that cat ( Cocky)
goes for a poo poo in is cat litter he never goes in it and does
it right beside it.So my parents thought that maybe it was because
it was'nt change enough time so instead of changing it twice a week
they tried to change it every two days but that did'nt work either.
So my dad went out to the pet store and bought another kitty litter
box and put it right beside the other one but that did'nt help either.
I need your help because my parents are getting tired of this and they're
considering bringing Cocky to the H.S.

                                    Thank you
                                             Chris
                                                  :^)

Or you may want to try using just newspaper in the second box.
Some cats just don't like to use the litter.

1304.3Try Disposable DiapersEDUC8::TRACHMANWed Apr 27 1988 14:1111
try lining the litter pan with disposable diapers - some (I should
say a very few) breeders use them instead of litter. A friend
of mine bought a cat that had been raised on diapers and the cat
won't use anything else. BTW, does the cat have enough privacy?
Some kids don't like anyone to watch. Also try various amounts
opf litter - if they are only using an inch, try 3 inches -
maybe kitty likes to really dig to China...

    Good Luck

Well, what do you expect when you name a cat Cocky? ;')
1304.5RATTLE::LANDRYM-E-O-WWWWed Apr 27 1988 14:5211
If your parents have had the cat for 1 1/2 years, then something
is wrong. Usually when a cat changes a habit, something has made
it do that. New home? New people in the house? New animals?
Is the cat used to going outside to do his/her job? Does the cat
purr and eat as usual - any loss of apetite?

Having a cat takes more than just cleaning the litter box. I would
have a look at the cutie and make sure it's alright.

    RE;ALL

The cat real name is Cockette. (french name)
The kitty litter is down stairs and no one goes down there.
They put about 3 inches of kitty litter
    Cockette as been fixed
She eats normal cat food only but sometime she eats chips.
Cockette is very independant when you call her she just looks at
    you and walks a way.
I'll ask them too try diapers but I have a feeling that they will
laugh at me when I sugest this.

           any more ideas???

1304.8More questions, more suggestions.GRECO::MORGANDoris Morgan DTN 223-9594Sat Apr 30 1988 05:1518
Some basic questions that haven't been answered:

How long have your parents had Cocky? Has he pooped outside the
box since the beginning? Is it a recent change in habits? If so,
then your parents should try to remember anything else that changed
around the same time the wayward pooping started.

A very common cause is a change in kitty litter, or an acquired
aversion to a particular brand of litter. I suggest your parents
try several other brands. My cats are VERY picky about the brand
of kitty litter they will accept.

They may also want to try putting paper around the litter box to
see if Cocky goes on the paper. If so, then they can put paper
inside one of the litter boxes and see if that will entice him into
    it.

Good luck! I hope Cocky doesn't have to be sent away.
