1246.0. "HOME NEEDED, *PLEASE*" by LEDS::COHEN () Wed Apr 06 1988 17:10

I am a contractor here at DEC, My wife and I are moving to a new
apartment where pets are not allowed. We have three spayed indoor
only females, two we probably have homes for, but the youngest (about
3 years old), named "Meep" (after the sound she makes) needs a new
place to live. She is a very affectionate animal, not too smart,
but she does respond well to people, and usually comes when called.
She has never been outside (except to go to the vet) and so any
home she finds should preferably be an inside only home. The thought
of having to surrender her to a humane society, where she will be
forced to live in a cage until if/when someone takes her home is
*VERY* disturbing to me. Someone suggested I look for a notesfile
on quats, and I did. Having seen that others in previous topics
have successfully found homes for their kitties gives me some hope
that I might be able to find a good home for mine. My only other
alternative is to take the animal to the new Apt. with me, and hope
that I don't get caught/evicted. If anyone thinks that they might
be able to supply Meep with a nice place to live, maybe with another
cat-friend or two to keep her company, I would be greatful. If
you know someone you might like to reccomend the cat to, I would
    also appreciate that.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtfulness,

1246.2More info please.DRFIX::IVESWed Apr 06 1988 17:4112
I feel badly for you that you must give up your cat family.

Could you please give more information on your little one? What
    color etc.

(Have a daughter interested. Married, and has 2 other cats. One
14 years old, and one 9 months.) Wants to get a third, so when
that awful day comes that 14 year old dies or.....) Their little
one will not be alone. Everyone knows cats do best in pairs or
    more.!!

1246.3Here's that info you asked forLEDS::COHENWed Apr 06 1988 20:3414
thanks for a quick response. Meep is brown, tan and black in sort of
a combination tiger/all-mixed pattern. She is a little small as far
as cats go, but not too much, and she is very kitten-ish. As I said,
she has been fixed, she has NEVER had any medical problems, she has
had shots, no worms, although she is due on a feline lukemia booster
(I haven't gotten it yet since none of the cats ever go out). What
more should I say, her only possibly detracting feature is that when
she purrs, which she does a lot, her little tongue sticks out a bit
and she drools (oooohhh). Overall, she is a pretty cute little
critter, very responsive to people, and relatively playful, she
likes cat nip, and "pounce" cat treats. No litterbox problems that
I know of, not destructive to furniture or other things, not violent
when playing with people, and she likes to sleep at the foot of
the bed. Not at all agressive towords the other cats.

1246.6still no home...LEDS::COHENFri Apr 08 1988 14:242
just keeping this heading alive to increase my chances. I still
have no home for little MEEP, anyone out there listening ?
1246.7Take Meep along until you find new homeVAXWRK::DUDLEYFri Apr 08 1988 15:539
I don't know what kind of apartment you are moving to, but
if it we're me, I'd bring MEEP along and take my chances.

When we first got cats, we lived in a 'NO PETS' apartment
complex. Many people in the complex had cats and it seemed
to be 'overlooked' by management. I suspect that alot of
the "No Pets" clauses are really directed at dogs.

    Donna
1246.8Yes, I've thought of thatLEDS::COHENFri Apr 08 1988 16:5515
this is true, as my current apartment is No Pets, but the landlord
knows and tolerates them. The new place is run by a large property
management firm (State Street Properties, in fact) and I suspect
that they will be considerably less tolerant than my friendly
neighborhood landlord in this regards. Since I don't wan't to end
up between the "Rock and the Hard Place" if, after I move in, I
am discovered, forced to give up the cat to a humane society, I
will continue to hope that this notesfile will provide me with a
more satisfactory solution to my pressing problem (I don't have
to move until 6/1, so there is some time yet). Thank you for your
input though, my wife and I have discussed this very option, as
a last ditch, we may be forced to take this route, but until then....

Heres hoping I find a home for her...

1246.9Woof Woof WoofLEDS::COHENWed Apr 13 1988 15:4414
Well, I'm still without a home for my Quat, Doesn't anyone out there
want the warm fuzzy feeling of adopting a lovable little friend?
Quatz make excellent playfriends, and this quat is no exception,
she is also an excellent watch-animal, and will guard your home
and property against any number of potential dangers, like, for
instance, small bugs, balls of dust (also commonly refered to as
"dust bunnies"), little pieces of paper, and just about any other
item small enough and slow enough for her to get her furry paws
    on...

    How about it people ?

As a final offer, I'll saint anyone who'll take her.

I'd love to take this "quat", but (everyone has a big but), I'm
afraid my present quat would be heartbroken if another one was
    brought into the house.

Your quat sounds like a great pet! I really wish I could help her...

Quat (Kat) n. 1. A carniverous mammal, Felis quatus (or F. Domesticus),
domesticated since early times as a catcher of rats and mice and
as a pet, and existing in several distinctive breeds and varieties
    2. Any other of the animals of the family Felidea, which includes

This notes file is busier than the preverbial "one-armed paper hanger"
and so I still have hope that someone wants to help me out. As
things stand right now, I have about a month to find a solution to
my predicament. I will remain calm for the moment, and poke this
note every once and a while, just to keep it fresh in your (yes,
you people out there) minds. In about 3 weeks I'll start to panic,
and the result will not be pretty to see (a grown man gone to pieces,
and all...) so, if you feel bad for the cat, imagine.....

Either LEDS::COHEN is the ultimate salesperson or I'm getting
soft in my 'old' age. Anyhow...

While I have my doubts as to whether Aja would accept another cat
in the house I'd be willing to give Meep a home if someone
would volunteer to be a "back-up".

Aja SCREAMS and growls at the sight of another cat coming into the
yard, so I'm a bit hesitant to make an offer that will make both
    cats miserable.

C'mon folks, can't we find Meep a home???

    Edd
1246.16I think you should....USMRM2::ESILVAFri Apr 15 1988 20:1814
Edd, I think you should take the chance!! My first cat was exactly
like Aja...absolutely hated other cats, but when we finally brought
home a new kitty, it only took her a few weeks to adjust to the
new addition and now they run around together and have a ball (they've
been happy together for about 10 years now!)

Besides, I think the original author of this note is an excellent
salesperson....I could feel myself weakening also...but with only
a 2 bedroom condo; two cats and a dog already... i just don't think
    it would work for me.

    good luck! :-)

Okay, you win -- I'll be picking Meep up tomorrow to add her to the
family (my husband is starting to wonder if that magical number
cat_max really exists!). I've been holding out for an all-gray
cat but couldn't resist all the descriptions, and pleading...

I just LOVE new arrivals!!!!

Well, well, well...I won't go into any smarmy dissertation on the
nature of human kindness, we see that kind of thing enough in this
file every day. I'd just like to say that my wife and I are very
pleased that we were able to find a happy home for Meep, the wonder
quat, and in keeping with my promise, I have applied to the Vatican
for the designation of Saint Jan of the Felines. I expect to hear
from the Pope any day now; I'll let you know how it turns out.

Well, let me tell you all what happened this weekend....

True to her promise, Jan and husband turned up at my place about
3:00 on Saturday, took little Meep away, and all appeared rosy.
Unfortunately, my wife was at work, and unreachable when the Browns
came for the kitty, and so could not say her last goodbyes. Now,
originally, it was my wifes idea to move, and she had said that
if we needed to find homes for the cats in order to move to a new
apt., she thought that was what we should do. I didn't like that
idea, but went along with her. Needless to say, after Meep left,
Lesli went absolutely to pieces. The only way I could get her to
go to sleep Saturday night was to tell her I'de get the cat back.
So, I'de like to thank Jan and Ron for all to see here, and further,
I'de like to apologize to you all for wasting your time with this
note. We have Meep back from the Browns, my wife has come to grips
with the fact that the cats ARE more important to her than moving,
and we are no longer looking for a home for any of our kitties.

thank you all for your time and help, especially Jan Brown, and
sorry to have wasted your time.

    Randy, Lesli, and Meep.

Another happy story! I would like to say that our furry friends
do have an uncanny way of dictating our lifestyles, no? I have
been working with many of you to fly Little Boy to Boston from
California, and i can't begin to tell you how much of my life has
been affected by his plight and rescue. I am giving him away, but
i would give just about anything to be able to keep him. I will
miss him and remember him for the rest of my life, but more so,
i will remember all of you who offered and supplied assistance.

THERE IS NO MORE EFFECTIVE WEAPON THAN FLATTERY. How many people
do we know who provide us with uninterrupted, unconditional love?
No wonder you made the decision to stay and keep Meep. Animals
    are truly the Masters!

Re : Note 1246.24

No, I do not want another kitty. I WANTED Meep, and it was love at
first sight on my part; it was very upsetting to give her back and
I'm not about to go through all that again. 8^(

Besides, I already have 6 cats so it isn't like there is a shortage
of furry faces at my house! We'll be moving in a few weeks as well,
this really isn't a good time to make additions to the household.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, but I'm not currently seeking a cat.
