    Sorry Elaine; in this case more room doesn't equal more cats. Last
    year they were going for 400 entries.  This year I heard 225.  The
    show is filled.

    Yes it sure is - I heard that they turned away 100 entries.
    I guess I meant more room for those of us exhibiting.  Last
    year we were very crowded - it was next to impossible to
    get the cats to the rings.  I followed a tall person each
    time I took a cat up.

                     for 1437 West, WEst Springfield/Agawam - 2nd Exit
                     on Route 5 - take this exit - to 3/4 around rotary

    From 91 North:   Take exit 7 - Columbus Ave, Springfield Center.
                     Take first right over bridge, Memorial Bridge
                     West Springfield. At the end of bridge go 1/2
                     way around rotary.

    MAIN DIRECTIONS:  Take a right at 147 West Springfield.  Go 1.1
                      miles - through 3 sets of lights - after 3rd set
                      of lights take your first left into the Eastern
                      States Exposition Fairgrounds - go past entrance

                      on the right will say NEW ENGLAND CENTER.  Park

    The CFA cat show in Rhode Island is in Cumberland, on
    17-18 September.
    
    Alas, I will not be able to go because there is also a
    CFF show that weekend, in Yarmouth.

    I'll be bringing Coo (Secret Princess); I'm hoping to get
    her a Master Grand Championship before she retires to become
    better acquainted with Frosty Man and have some Baby Coos.
    
    Also, Yarmouth will be the CFF debut of Meowsky's Karma...
    a little sweetie who will be 4 months and 8 days old.  She is
    the second female of my own breeding (the other dozen kittens
    were all males!).

    Ok, who's going?  My club is running the show, so I'll be there
    all day.  If you are going and looking for me, either look at the
    raffle table, or look for the cage with the powder blue curtains
    with two red signs on the front.  One says, "KORAT, Good luck cat
    of Thailand" and the other will either say, "Please don't touch,
    my owner bites" or "Do you believe in life after death?  Touch my
    cat and find out!".  Come and have a good time.  We will have over
    200 cats there in all kinds of breeds and colors.  If you do come,
    make sure you stop by and say hi.

    showing evidence of fleas, ear mites, fungus or any
    infectious or contagious illness will be disqualified and requested

    held in December - the date has moved to January.
    
    Time:  9 am - 6 pm Saturday & Sunday

    Directions to the Show Hall:
    
    From the North:  93 South/Southeast Expressway or the Fitzgerald
    Expressway.  Follow this through Boston to Exit 15 - at the end
    of the ramp go left under the highway and past the T-Station into
    a Rotary.  Take the first right out of the rotary onto Morrissey
    Blvd.  Stay straight on Morrissey Blvd. passing the Boston Globe
    on the right and the Kennedy Library/U-Mass Harbor Campus on the
    left.  AT the set of lights under the highway go right onto
    Freeport Street.  Show Hfall is up the hill on the right.
    
    From the West:  coming in from the turnpike, 93 South and follow
                    same from above.
    
    From the South:  93 North to Exit 13 - Freeport Street.  At the
    end of the ramp go left under highway and take first right - 
    follow straight through a set of lights and show hall is up hill
    on the right.

There are two basic choices - One involves staying on 128 S to RT 3
North (thereby going around Boston), the otherone involves taking the
Mass Pike into Boston and dropping down the expressway to Dorchester
which is South of Boston.
  these directions were originally written for someone coming in from
the Mass Pike.  But you can figure out how to get to the intersection
of the Mass Pike and 128 Easily enough.


1. Mass Pike East to Exit 14 (128 South)  
2. 128 South to Route 3 North towards Boston.
   (128 Ends and you must make a choice between Rt 3 South towards 
   Cape Cod, or Rt 3 North towards quincy and boston.  go north)  
   Stay in the left lanes and watch for idiots making decisions at the 
   last minute about which way to go on RT 3 or those poor souls who get 
   on 128 from rt 37 and have to immediately cross 4 lanes of traffic 
   if they want to go to Boston.
3. Stay on Route 3 through Quincy and Milton and into Dorchester.
4. Get off at the Freeport St exit 
5. Take a LEFT at the bottom of the ramp (stop sign) 
6. Pass under the expressway and immediately take a right. (very short 
   distance)
7. Pass behind a car dealership and come to a set of lights 
   (Freeport St/Morrissey Blvd intersection.  You are on Freeport st)
8. Go straight through the intersection and straight past the on-ramp 
   for Rt 3 South (on the right).  
9. A few hundred ft up on your left you'll see the Morrissey Animal 
   Hospital (green and white building) and the IBEW hall is slightly farther
   up the street on the right.  Its a brick building.

  To get back to 128:
1. Turn left out of the hall, pass Morrissey animal Hospital 
2. Turn left onto RT 3 South (If you get to the lights at Morrissey
   Blvd, you went too far.)
3. Take Rt 3 South through Milton and Quincy and signs to 128 N.  
   Its available from either of the right two lanes.

TO GO THROUGH BOSTON:

1. Stay on the Mass Pike all the way into Boston, where it ends.  
2. At the end of the mass pike you'll go through two consecutive lane
   splits:
   a. The first intersection splits the traffic getting off at 
      Chinatown/South station from that continuing on to the X-way.  
      The far right lane goes towards Chinatown so stay left.  
   b. The next split separates folks going North on the x-way from 
      those going South .  The far left lane goes North so stay in
      the second lane from the right.  
   
   BOTH splits are clearly marked with big signs.  Its just helpful
   to know about them ahead of time.  Your best lane through all 
   this stuff is the middle lane - or the second lane from the left.  
3. Stay on the x-way the exit for JFK Library, Umass Boston, 
   Columbia Road ( exit 18?  A good landmark for this exit is
   FORTRESS STORAGE - on the right)

4. Take a LEFT at the bottom of the exit Ramp 
5. Go up the hill to the rotary. The MBTA station will be on the right 
  (I think its called the UMASS station, it used to be Columbia Station 
   when I lived there).  
6. At the top of the hill, you barely enter the rotary, take a right 
   onto Morrissey Blvd.  
7. Go down a hill, stay to the left - Bayside expo center off on the left.  
8. Continue down Morrissey Blvd- pass the Boston Globe (will be on the
   right) 
9. Go straight through lights at enterance for UMass/Boston/JFK Library.  
10. Start working over to the right lane.  
11. Cross over a draw bridge and take a RIGHT at the next set of lights.
    (Freeport St.)
12. Pass a rt 3 onramp (on the right) , and the Morrissey animal Hospital
   (green & white bldg on the left)
13 IBEW hall on your RIGHT shortly after the Animal Hospital.  Brick Bldg.

  To get back to the Mass Pike: 

1. Take a LEFT out of the IBEW hall, 
2. LEFT at the lights onto Morrissey Blvd (under the bridge).
3. Stay on Morrissey all the way up to the rotary.  (Stay on the left side
   after you pass UMASS and go up the hill to the rotary)
4. If you think of the rotary as a clock, with you entering at 6 then 
   you want to exit around 9 o'clock.  So you're going togo about 3/4 of 
   the way around, watch for the T station, it will be on your left after
   you turn. Also, there's a sign pointing the way to Rt 3)

5. Take your first RIGHT onto Rt 3 North. 
6. Stay on Route 3 until you see signs for the Mass Pike.

    Now, if any of you marvelous DECies are going to be showing could 
    we please have a special way of identifying you?  I can never 
    find the right cages since the names are not on them.  How about 
    a sign that sits on top of the cage and says something like 
    "Lightning -- a digital cat".  Using a small "d" wouldn't get us in a
    hassle with Legal.  Then when I say, "Why I have a cat just
    like that at home."  You can come back with, "Yes, but its
    probably an analog model!"  Love them kitties!

    I watched the news this morning on Channel 7 (in mass.).  If I
    remember correctly they did a spot on a big cat show being held
    in N.Y at Madison Square Garden.  The winning cats will win prize
    money.  Is this info right?  Are any of your felines going to be

    We went to a cat show in San Francisco this weekend and enjoyed it--
    even if our time there was short.
    
    Jo--I saw you there but you were busy in one of the rings and we 
    couldn't find you when we stopped by before we left.  
    
    Your cats were beautiful!!  How did you do?  
    
    I also met Linda Donaldson and saw her Japanese Bobtails.  She's going
    to let me know as soon as her two litters are born.  I thoroughly
    enjoyed meeting her and talking to some of the exhibitors there.
    
    How did you like the show?  Like I said, I was only there for a short
    time but I thought it was fun.

    I clerked for judge Donna Fuller all weekend, but did manage to
    make all the Birman rings (kittens and adults).  Kalliste made Best
    of Breed two times, Laci (our sealpoint female champion) made Best
    of Breed once and added 12 grand points, bringing her total to 64
    (only 136 to go!), and Lady Sings the Blues had a very good first
    show.  
    
    CFA doesn't award Best of Breed in kitten class and since she was
    the only bluepoint kitten, the only way we would have known how
    the judges liked her was if she made the finals.  With 114 kittens
    competing and Lady being only 4 mos. and 4 days old, I wasn't expecting
    that.  But, she received honorable mention in two allbreed finals,
    both judges saying that they really wanted to fit her in but couldn't.
    They also made comments such as [warning -- major bragging coming
    up!!], " up and coming bluepoint Birman female kitten.....will have
    a major impact on the breed....wonderful balance for a kitten of
    her age......exquisite head type....."!!!!!!!!!!!!
    
    All of this, of course, had no impact what-so-ever on her owner
    to be!!  He was beside himself with joy.
    
    The show went very smooth.  From my ringside seat, I got a real
    close up view of some of CFA's best cats in the country.
    
    Linda's Bobtails did wonderfully.  She and I toasted their success
    at the close of judging on Sunday night.  Her Mi-Ke grand made almost
    every final (or was it every final?).  This is no easy feat when
    you are competing with the top cats in the country.
    
    Only one Birman adult finaled, a sealpoint female grand, 3 years
    old who hadn't been out showing in a while.  She was in great condition
    (not easy for a female after they have had numerous litters) and
    made a 8th Best Longhair final.

      nope - neither CFA nor CFF will allow declawed cats in their

    That's Great!!  You must be really proud, and you deserve to be!!
    
    Jim and I only had 2 hours we could spend at the show; I wish it 
    could have been more so I could have seen more.  I love the judging 
    and could watch it for a long time--especially when they play Super
    Kitty with the cats. ;-)
    
    Your cats looked *very* elegant lounging in their exhibition cages.
    Each time we walked by, tons of people were standing there ooh-ing and
    aaah-ing over them.  There was always a crowd.  
    
    If this ever happens again, I will know to leave you a note stating 
    that we were there.  That way you'll know that we're there rooting for
    you.
    
    When is the next show in this area coming up?  We happened to hear
    about this one by chance and I would love to know when they're coming
    up so I can plan better.  Do you have a schedule you could post?

    Jill,  I usually post an announcement in the Silicon_Valley notesfile
    when there is a local show coming up.  I have posted them in Feline
    but so few of us in Feline are located on the West Coast.
    
    The next local show will be "A Havana Brown is Not a Cigar" put
    on by The International Havana Brown Society on the 26th of March
    at Centennial Hall in Hayward.  It is a one day show, four judges,
    and I have entered Lady Sings the Blues and Laci, our sealpoint
    female Champion.  I may bring LTK (another Bluepoint female show 
    quality) along so that the other breeders can see her.  She is 
    really nice too.  Bye the way, what do you guys think of the name
    Mysinhs L'Enchanteresse? (french for The Enchantress)  It seems
    a more appropriate name for a show baby than LTK (Little Tiny Kitten).
    
    This weekend, we will be in Southern California for a show.  There
    are no more shows up here until May 27-28, that one will be held
    in San Jose somewhere, I am not sure where yet.  Maybe at the new
    Convention Center.
    
    We will be going down to Southern California quite a bit since I
    am shortly going to be getting my newest show baby.  I am going
    to try to get a regional award for her so I plan to show her all
    over.

I'll be there too, with Pita and Micki.  Who knows, this could be a big weekend
for our dear and wonderful PITA.  She could become a Master Grand this weekend.
Anything is possible.  She only needs about 25 points and a best cat.

and I'll be in Elmer Goldman's ring on Sunday.  During a break, I can introduce

    .. looking forward to it.....!!!!! I  would like to share something
    with you.. you know Pookie ( her royal highness).. well she has
    met many people.. and everyone comes in and trys every trick in
    the book.. to get her attention, hold her etc.. and she does her
    routine.. she hypervenilates.. and turns her head .. whines etc..
    well.. the only person prior to a couple of weeks ago, who  was
    able to actually.. cuddle with Pookie was  Auntie   E. T... just
    just picks her up.. looks her straight in the face ,, and says
    whadda matter?.. AHEM.. well a couple of weeks ago Cin Gerry
    came to visit.. and of course Pookie did her.. ya so.. Ill 
    ignore you.. well cin and I were chatting, and of course Happy
    was being socialable,,  you all are not going to believe this..
    BUT her royal highness.. PLAYED\!!!!!!!... so I said  to Cin..
    that is for your benefit ya know.. she said YEAH..... I know..
    and low and behold she let CIN HOLD HER..... no muss no fuss,,
    no whining, no hyperventilating.. and the best aprt was when
    CIN said to her.. you a  have a typical smoked tortie
    personality... Pookie,,,!!!!! I chuckled.. and  later on..
    I said well Pookie wanst it nice of aunt cin to come and visit,

    looked at me sniffed , put her nose in the air,  sashayed

    I'll be there also, with Secret Princess ("Coo") and her daughter
    Pussy Willow.  Willow will be making her debut at age 4 months and
    one day.  She is small enough to escape between the bars of the
    cage, and smart enough to have figured it out [she did it during
    a filming at the recent Boston cat show at Copley Place...that got
    the adrenalin (her's AND mine!) going!].  So if anyone sees a tiny
    silver grey kitty wandering around,  GIVE HER BACK  ;-)  ;-)  ;-) 
    
    We are entered in the rest of the local (NE) shows this season as
    well, and will be there unless I am sick [again].

    Well, all you exhibitors and spectators, just a word to help calm
    your nerves.
    
    The Concord Monitor will be there on taking pictures, along with
    Channel 9 TV, Channel 21 TV, New Hampshire Weekend, and New Hampshire
    PBS Channel 11.  The Concord Monitor (newpaper)  is running a 
    feature article on the show in the Friday edition.  You all may
    want to wear helmets and elbow pads so you can get through the
    isles to the rings!!

    that she and Happy wanted to buy  Eastern airlines,, rename 
    AIR POOKIE..A the only major issue was  Happy wanted to be in charge
    of the food and beverage portion of the business, and of course
    her new ideas for the 1ST class  menu, did over with the CCEO( chair
    cat executive officer).. ya know pizza,saltines and cheese,. paper
    plates, cups.. instead of liver pate, shrimp, lobster, champaigne
    served in waterford crystal goblets.. Pookie was not amused and
    shocked that she would have to eat pizza.. instead of her favorite
     treats.. so  if she knew that  "the  press was going to be there..

	I *do* know that Pat Senser will be there with a couple of
	great Siamese, as well as her new Blue Abyssinian.  I've seen
	pictures of this cat, and she's *gorgeous* :^}

    The show is at the Veterans Memorial Ice Rink, I think in Cranston.
    Anyway, here's the directions:

    it should be a good show - over 200 cats!

    Does anyone have directions to the Worcester Show on Sunday, the
    21st?  I was able to find out that it is being held at the Boys
    Trade Vocational School on Grove Street in Worcester; however, that's
    about all I know!!

    Well, Jill, it is like this...I have already been kicked out of
    the family for past digressions.  My family has a weird habit of
    planning all important family events on cat show weekends.  To date
    I have missed things like Father's Day, Mother's Day, Jan's Birthday,
    my Birthday, my husbands birthday (he was with me at the show though!),
    my high school reunion (boy was that one hard to explain to the
    "pep" committee that kept calling to ask why I wasn't coming), various
    graduations, various friends weddings, Dad's birthday.....the list
    goes on and on.
    
    Ken and I plan to get ready for the show really early and go to
    the graduation first.  The check in for the show is the same time
    as the graduation, and thankfully, the show doesn't start until
    12:00 noon.  So, we will go to the graduation at 8:30 am and stay
    there until about 11:00am or so, then I will have to get to the
    show hall and set up.  Luckily, Jaci is in the beginning of the
    alphabet (Cordes) ;^).
    
    Household pet judging is fun.  There is no set standard, each judge
    just goes for whatever they like.  This means that very rarely are
    two judges HHP finals the same.  Everyone gets another chance with
    the next judge.  In purebreds, you can generally see the same cat
    being selected Best of Breed in every ring (not always though).
    
    The household pets are judged on their beauty, health, condition,
    temperament, personality and whatever else the judge decides is
    important.  In CFA, the judges have a free hand when it comes to
    HHP's.
    
    Be sure to buy a catalog at the door, and I will show you how to
    keep track of how the ribbons are awarded.  It is usually a good
    idea to follow one class (Japanese Bobtails for example) through
    all the judges so you can get a feel for how different judges judge
    each class.  You can compare one judge to the next.  Also, Linda
    will be able to tell you which judges know Bobtails and which don't.
    The lineup this weekend is not good for my Birmans, but what the
    heck!  The show is practically in my backyard!  I do have a kitten
    out that should knock their socks off though!  Actually, I have
    *two* hot kittens out, one I bred and one I bought.

    What Jo Ann failed to mention is that its difficult to plan those
    important events on a non-show weekend; cause there's one somewhere
    almost every weekend during show season.  Doesn't bother me if she
    has to miss things since I understand about the shows and sometimes
    have to plan around them too.  Its the rest of the family that doesn't
    show that has a problem understanding although I do my part to explain
    in terms they understand a little better (like explaining to Jaci
    that Jo Ann's breeding cats is her business just like Jaci has her
    own cleaning business).
    
    Jill, Carrie won't be there.  I didn't get her (and didn't expect
    to keep her) soon enough to enter her.  If I can get her all healthy,
    get rid of the fleas, and get her coat nice and shiney in time for
    the next show in the area I'll probably enter her.  Sorry, but I
    won't even have any pictures of her to show you yet.

    short, not built at all like a California blonde, and will probably
    be wearing acid wash purplish jeans and denim jacket with buttons.

    Lets start you off right...blue ribbons are first place in your
    class.  They are good to get, but are the stepping stone to bigger
    and better things.  What you really want is the brown ribbon (Best
    of Breed) and/or the purple ribbon (Best Champion of Breed).  If
    you are a champion and you get the brown ribbon, you will automatically
    get the purple one too.  The purple one will give you points for
    beating the other champions of your breed.  The brown one will give
    you a shot at making the top ten finals in that judges ring.
    
    So, in the adult class, you want the brown, or the purple, or both!
    
    CFA does not award a Best of Breed in the kitten class.  They do
    award Best of the Color Class which is a black ribbon.  So, in kittens,
    you want the black ribbon, and that will make you eligible to be
    considered for top ten kitten finals.
    
    The graduation actually starts at 9:30am so I thought I should allow
    for the parking mess, since it's at Spartan Stadium. 
    
    And yes, Jan does run interference for me  when it comes to explain-
    ing about the cat shows.  When she put it into terms that everyone
    can understand (shows=advertising) the pressure lifted a bit.  But,
    most of the family thinks that my priorities are all screwed up!

    Cin, in CFA in California, if you aren't Best of Breed or Best
    Champion, you haven't got a chance at the finals.  At least in
    Championship classes.  And especially if you are showing a minority
    breed.
    
    But, Cin is right, you can still make finals if you aren't best
    of breed or best champ.  But, whoever is best of breed must be ahead
    of you in the final.  If you are second best of breed and make 9th
    best cat, the best of breed cat has to be at least 8th best cat.
    Once another cat beats you in the breed, you can't turn around and
    beat him in the finals.
    
    We did great at the show.  The kittens knocked them dead!  One or
    the other, or both, finaled in every ring but 1.  Limoges made two
    finals, Latisse made 4 finals, and Laci, my champion, made one final.
    Donna Fuller gave her 2nd Best Longhair Champion and 3rd Best Longhair
    Cat!  That brings her point total to 152 and we only have 48 to
    go to get her grand championship!  Boise, Idaho here we come!

    Roslyn, it is at the World Trade Center in Boston.  Here are the
    directions:
    
    Mass Pike East to end.  At end of Pike, the road will fork.  Take
    a right at fork (downtown south station).  At end of exit ramp,
    go to 1st set of lights and proceed straight through onto Atlantic
    Avenue.  Stay on Atlantic Ave. until you see South Station on the
    right (roundish building).  You will now be at a very tricky
    intersection.  Take a right onto Summer Street and follow Summer
    until you see the World Trade Center on the left.
    
    I am not sure what the show hours are -- most are 9:00 to 6:00.
    If you do attend, stop by Linda Swierczynski's cage -- she's the
    breeder I got my Ragdolls from and will be teaching me the ropes
    about showing.  I'll be there all day on Saturday.

    Hi Roslyn.  Unfortunately, I won't be showing my guys yet.  Aside
    from the fact that they're still not registered (Linda is bringing
    me the papers on Saturday), they just got over a URI about a week
    ago and I don't want to stress them and risk a relapse, not to mention
    possibly infect anyone else's kitties in case they are still harboring
    some of the virus.
    
    They will be shown in September at the Framingham CFF show.  Can't
    wait for that!

    I am sorry to say that I won't be able to make Seacoast this year.
    I don't have enough vacation time (so much for visiting Sheri in
    Hawaii this year too!), I have spent it all on cat show weekends!
    
    I am going to go to Oklahoma City, OK on the 5th and 6th of August...
    will anyone be going?  It is CFA, and Limoges needs her championship
    before the Birman show in Medina, OH the last weekend of August.
    I managed to get perfect flight times for OK, leave San Jose at
    5:00 pm friday, get into OK at 11:15 pm friday, leave OK at 8:00
    pm Sunday, get into San Jose 11:14 pm sunday.  I don't have to take
    any vacation time to do that show.

    Gee, we saw a whole bunch of pretty birmans!!!!  they were up
    before us!  It really was fun - Both Stripees and Lil did very
    well.  Stripees got a final and 2 Best of Breeds and Best
    Champions and 2 2nd Best of Breeds - Lil got 2 Best of Breeds/
    Best Champions and 2 2nd Best of Breeds also - Cindy was very
    proud of her breeding!  I was beside my self - a really fun
    timel - hotel was wonderful! Too bad there were so many
    great persians there - none of us could have beaten the
    10th best persian in the finals!!!  oh well - off to the smaller
    shows!  Lil's in her very first heat - things are moving along!
    SeaCoast should be fun!  Sorry you can't make it - maybe next year
    or maybe we'll see ya along the route somewhere this season - keep
    us posted as to where you are going.

    That is great news about Stripees and Lil!  So you each came home

    I am still trying to get the last couple of points on Laci for her
    grand, and boy, it can be frustrating.  She is coming along to Oklahoma
    with us, in hopes of finishing up so that we can breed her.  We
    are both very anxious for that!  So, maybe Lil and Laci will be
    expecting at the same time.
    
    Was this show in New Jersey by any chance?  If so, Nancy Jenkins
    was there too.  She was there observing Birmans and making contacts
    to help her locate her first show quality kitten.  I have heard
    from her that the Birmans there were terrific.
    
    Maybe we will see you somewhere along the show trail this season.

    The Seacoast show is CFA.  I think entries are still open for it.
    The entry clerk was very nice, and even remembered to send me an
    entry form after we met in Milwaukee a few weeks ago.
    
    The more shows you go to, the more you will hear about.  Soon you
    will be added to the entry clerk's mailing lists, and will be receiving
    show announcements regularly.  You might ask to be added to their
    mailing lists, that way you will get a form for every show that
    that entry clerk works for.  Some clerks don't automatically add
    you, you have to ask some of them.

     Is anyone going to do the Cape Cod Cat's club show?  I'm trying
    to make up my mind between that one (9/16-17) and the CFA show
    in RI.  (Cape Cod show is in S. Yarmouth)
    
      Since I live in Braintree, which is still somewhat of a drive,
    I might be able to carpool with one of the Feliners.  Also, as long
    as you don't mind sleeping on the couch I could offer someone
    a place to crash on Saturday night.  We'd probably have to
    restrict you cat(s) to one of the upstairs rooms (or else do
    without sleep).

    Directions to Salem NH cat show:

From the south:  Take route 93 North to exit 1 in New Hampshire.
At the base of the ramp (Its a long ramp, goes past the racetrack)
go straight onto Veteran's Memorial Parkway.  Go 0.7 miles to the flashing
yellow light and turn left onto Geremonty Dr.  The Salem high School is 0.4
miles on the left.

From the North:  Take Rt 93 South to Exit 2 in NH.  At the base of the ramp
turn right onto Main St (Rt 97) and go 1.5 miles (3 sets of traffic lights)
to Geremonty Dr and turn right at the Kelly Library.  The Salem high school
is 0.2 miles on the right.

From the East:  From route 495 South take exit 50 to Salem, NH.  At
the end of the ramp turn right onto rt 97.  Follow rt 97 for 5 miles
to Geremonty Dr.  The Salem High School is 0.2 miles on the right.

Isn't there a cat show in Oakland in October sometime?  For some reason I 
think it's the weekend of October 14-15.  Do you have any information on it?
If so, could you post it?  (Location, times, and that sort of thing)  Will
you be there?  (Gads, that sounds like a silly question, knowing how many
shows you attend :-) ).  I think I would like to attend.  From what I remember,
I think it's supposed to be a large show.

    The show in Oakland is the CFA Northwest Regional Qualifying Show.
    It will be held on the 14th and 15th, and should be very large.
    The weekend of the 14th and 15th will be the dates for every region's
    qualifying show.  Cats will be competing to be *invited* to compete
    in the CFA/Purina Invitational Show in November in St. Louis.  Only
    those cats who qualify in their regions may attend the St. Louis
    Invitational.   We qualified Kalliste last year and went and had
    a grand time in St. Louis.  We are hoping to qualify one or more
    of his offspring this year.
    
    I will be there with Lyscentia, Limoges, Mirabel, Dreamer, and Moody.
    There will also be about 4 Birmans of my breeding there with other
    people.  We expect a very large Birman turnout, as well as a large
    turnout of other breeds.
    
    This should be a good show.  Hope to see you there.

I'll see you there!!  Where in Oakland will it be held?  

I'm going to take pictures of Gwen and to show Linda (Gwen's breeder) to see 
if she should be entered in shows beginning in January.  When we picked up Gwen
in June, Linda wasn't at all sure about the tail (it's not kinked as tightly
as she likes to see in the Japanese Bobtail breed), and it still hasn't 
curled.  At this age (6.5 months) it probably won't.  In any case, I 
definitely want to attend the cat show and plan on spending a good portion 
of the day there.  And this time when I watch the judging, I'll have an idea 
of what they're doing since you gave me your fine tutorial.  I still 
appreciate that.

    The show is at the Oakland Convention Center, West Hall.  I think
    it will probably be open from 9:00 to 5:00.  I don't know what the
    charge will be for entry.
    
    Linda should be there, along with all the other local breeders,
    and some not so local.  The Northwest Region encompasses Washington,
    Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Northern California.

    If this is a CFA show, Dundee doesn't have to have his Premier
    certificate back before you can show him as a premier.  As long
    as you mail in the paperwork prior to the opening day of the next 
    show, he can compete as a premier.

    Anyone have the date, time, and directions to the Braintree Cat show in
    October?  I have never been to a cat show before and REALLY want to go

    Braintree's cat show is Oct. 21st and 22nd, 9-5 at the Braintree armory.
    
    Directions are - 128 south to the end, pick up 3 south in Braintree.
    Take exit 17 (Grossman's, LeBiftheque exit), go 3/4 of the way around
    the rotary, exiting on Union St (by the Sunoco station). The armory
    is on the right immediately after the gas station and car wash.
    
    Remember that it's less crowded before noon. Also remember to bring
    lots of spending money - feline-related products are available
    at shows for great prices.

    TICA will allow you to show declawed and altered cats.  So, I'll
    be registering Cattyshack's Flaming Star and showing him in
    Dorchester in January!

    Ok  I called TICA and she read the registration rule to me. All
    it says is "Declawed cats will not be penalized".  According to
    her you can show a declawed cat in any class.

    The show hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.  There will be an
    admission charge, probably about $3-4.00.  Of course, parking can
    be a problem in Golden Gate park so your best bet is to come early.
    You will also see more of the actual judging if you come early.
    The allbreed rings won't do their championship class finals until
    the end of the day so if you wish to see that, you better plan on
    staying till later in the afternoon.  The specialty finals (LH only
    or SH only) take place immediately following that judge's completing

    I am signing Flame and Dundee up for the TICA show on Jan 20-21.
    Its in Dorchester (listed as Boston).  Its a nice hall and very
    convenient to the expressway.  And, while I wouldn't leave my
    car unlocked in the parking lot, I don't think you have anything
    to worry about in that area of Dorchester (I lived there for 8 yrs).
    The hall is right across from Morrissey Animal Hospital where I
    took Mao and Bumpy for almost 10 yrs.

    Nancy, I am entering both Murdock and Kirby in that show (Sat. only).
    Murdock will still be a kitten but Kirby will be an alter (effective
    next Tuesday!) and I hear that Ragdolls do very well in TICA.  I
    am looking forward to the show.  After this one, we will be
    concentrating on CFA with Murdock and showing Kirby only occasionally.

    I won't be going to the Incats show at Moscone since it is a TICA
    show.  I am trying to get a regional win on Limoges in CFA and will
    be spending the weekend at the CFA show in Palm Springs.  I regret
    that I won't be able to meet a fellow Feliner this weekend though.
    
    Good luck to you and Altaira, let us know how she does.  And, if
    you are looking for other shows to enter her in, let me know.  My
    club has a show coming up the first weekend in January at the Santa
    Clara County Fairgrounds.  This is a CFA show so the cats all compete
    in only one catagory.  We will be awarding the Morris Award to the
    highest scoring household pet in the show though.

    Greetings everyone! I am new (as of yesterday) to this conference,
    and I would like to understand the following terms I've been seeing
    here. What does CFF and CFA stand for? Also, are there other cat
    competition terms I should know about. And, finally, how do I go
    about getting a "DEC Feliner pin" for my pet's cage?
    
    I am entering my housecat, Altaira, in our first competition in
    San Francisco this weekend. Any suggestions for success, out there?

    CFA stands for the Cat Fanciers Assocation, which is the largest
    registering body for cats in the US.  CFF is the Cat Fanciers
    Federation I think.  It is another registering body for cats.  You
    will also see TICA mentioned.  TICA is The International Cat
    Association and it is also a registering body.  
    
    Each of these associations will put on shows.  I only show in CFA,
    but some people show in more than one association.  The show that
    you are going to at Moscone is a TICA show.  Incats is the name
    of the corporation that has organized the show.  Most cat shows
    are put on by cat clubs rather than corporations.  Incats was founded
    by a group that started putting on large shows.  They even sell
    clothing items now.  The Incats shows are very large, most TICA
    shows are not.

    the cat's collar several days before the judging, so the fur around

    at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose, January 6th and
    7th? If so, please give details. (I'm thinking of entering Altaira 
    in the HHP.)
    
    Update on the TICA, San Francisco show at the Moscone Center:
    I entered Altaira in the (very) informal Hill's Science Diet 'Supercat'
    housecat contest on Saturday. Although we didn't win an award, 
    several people commented on how 'Egyptian' and 'Sphinx' -like she looked;
    (she sits with two paws extended, one crossed over the other). These
    nice comments just made my day!
    
    This was the first time I've ever been to a cat show. It was an
    interesting and informative experience! Most enjoyable! 
    
    Now, we may move on to entering an official household pet competition.

    Teresa,  it just so happens that my husband and I are co-show managers
    for the Tails and No Tales Cat Show in San Jose the first weekend
    in January.  If you would like to enter, contact Bill Talbert at
    (707)745-6036.  The official closing date for the show is December
    23rd.  We expect to fill (we can only take 225 cats due to our format)
    so call him right away.  If we haven't filled by the 23rd, Bill
    will take entries up to the 31st of December.  
    
    Limoges did great in Palm Springs.  She was Best of Breed in all
    eight rings.  Unfortunately, we didn't make the finals, so didn't
    bring home the kind of points that I was hoping for.  The "big guns"
    were there.  But, the suprise was my little Moody Blue.  He made
    an 8th Best Allbreed Kitten and a 4th Best Longhair Kitten final.
    Of course, both judges called him a girl during their final....they
    must not have seen the note I wrote about him and Lyscentia!! ;^)

    I'll be at the cat show January 6 and 7 with Gwen, our Japanese
    Bobtail.  I received confirmation of the registration the other
    day, gave Gwen a practice bath (to prepare her and me for the 
    real bath in a couple weeks), and had her checked out by our vet
    who declared her fit. (I thought she was, I just wanted to check.)
    
    This is going to be pretty exciting.
    
    The kids and I made it to Moscone on Saturday and were there for
    a couple hours.  I looked for you but I'm afraid I missed you. 
    I probably had too many concerns about how the kids were acting
    to pay close enough attention.  The kids (8 and 6) actually did
    very well--I had given them previous warnings about touching cats
    and they even enjoyed sitting down and watching the judging.  Jennifer
    wants to attend the cat show with me in January--both days, all
    day.
    
    I'm looking forward to it and hope you can make it, too.

    There are several shows in Western MA every year.  TICA is the
    association that allows declawed cats. 
    
    You should be able to get a good idea of when the shows are coming up
    by following To Show and Go in Cats Magazine.

      I got a notification for a TICA show in Quebec yesterday.  Wish

    Some clubs do a mailing list from the previous year's catalog.  Most
    don't.  The best way of finding out what the show dates are is to
    check in either Cats Magazine, as Cindy pointed out, or in Cat
    Fancy Magazine.  Another way is to try and visit a local show
    and see if there are flyers available for upcoming shows.  There
    usually are flyers around.  Most associations, TICA, CFF, or CFA
    do not have a central mailing list that you can put your name on.
    I think that's what you may have been refering to.  This file is
    always a good place to check also - show announcements are usually
    in note # 1093.

    She said I still had time for the early bird entry (by tomorrow).
    She also said I should bring towels and some kind of curtains to dress
    up the cage.  Only thing I forgot to ask was whether I should rent a

    Pat, if you are entering for both days then you will automatically
    get a cage for both days.  For one cat, you will automatically be
    assigned a single cage, unless you get and pay extra for a double
    one.  I highly recommend paying the extra $$ (usually $15 to $20
    for the weekend) for the double cage.
    
    If you are only entering for one day, then you will be assigned
    a cage for one day.  Again, this will be a single cage unless you
    specify and pay extra for the double one.
    

    One thing I forgot to mention to you on the phone Pat - if you have
    concerns about how Holly will react to the show you can sign up for
    Saturday and then make the decision Saturday evening as to whether or
    not to come back on Sunday.  most shows will only charge you the
    difference  between the one and two day prices.  If the show is sold
    out, tho you risk not having the choice of coming back for the second
    day.

    The Narragansett Bay Cat Fanciers Show is on March 10,11th at
    the Windjammer Lounge, Atlantic Ave, Misquamicut, RI.
    
    Here are the directions:
    
    95 South - take the route 4 exit off 95.  Follow route 4 to the end
    onto Route 1 South.  Follow rt 1 into Westerly till you come to
    Benny's store on your right.  At the traffic light turn left onto
    Langworthy Dr.  At the stop sign continue straight onto Weekapaug Rd.
    At intersection continue straight until another stop sign.  Take a
    Left onto Atlantic Ave.  Show hall is 1.5 miles on the right.
    
    From the Hartford area take route 2 to route 78 east.  Follow 78
    to the end and proceed as above.
    
    The show hall is right on the beach.  All the way there you should see
    signs indicating you are headed toward the beach.  If you don't see
    these signs, you've taken a wrong turn.
    
    During the summer this is a tourist area so there are plenty of seafood

    Directions to the Hudson School, March 24-25th
    
    1. For People coming from the South via I-93:
    Take I-93 to exit #3 (Hudson-Windham).  There is a traffic light at the
    bottom of the ramp; turn left, here, heading West on Routh #111.
    Travel straight ahead, to the fourth traffic light, some 8.8 miles.
    On your left you will see a Cumberland Farms store.  Route #111 makes
    a sharp right here, but you go straight ahead on Central Street.
    Exactly one-half mile on your left is the entrance to the memorial
    School.
    
    2. For people coming from the North via I-93:
    Take I-93 to exit #3 (Canobie Lake, Hudson, Nashua,Windham).  At the
    bottom of the ranp, turn left and proceed as in the instructions above.
    Your distance to the fourth traffic light will be 8.2 miles.
    
    At the end of the day you will either go home, or you will go to the
    show hotel.  You cannot leave the school grounds via the same rive by
    which you entered.  Drive out the back of theschool grounds, and when
    you get to the road, turn right.  Go to the intersection and turn right
    again.  At the next intersection turn left to backtrack to the show
    hotel.  Turn right to return to Route I-93.

    To all you San Francisco Bay area Deccies, there will be a HUGE
    show at the Cow Palace on Saturday and Sunday, March 24th and 25th.
    It is open to the public from 9:00 - 5:00 both days.  This show
    boasts an entry of 450 cats, from all over the country.  I will
    be there with Moody and Westie.  Ken is taking Limoges down to a
    show in Pomona, so she won't be with me.  If you can make it, look
    us up.  
    
    There will be an admission charge, and a parking fee, so come prepared.

    this weekend, don't forget to print out your discount coupon

    There will also be a CFA show in Boxboro MA April 14 and 15, and
    a CFA show in Weston CT on April 7 and 8.
    
    Well, we have covered Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut,
    and California (there are probably 50 shows in CA, right Jo?).

    Karen, the Cow Palace has lots of parking, but they charge a bit
    to use it.  I think it is about $4-5 to park each day.  If you do
    come, try to come early in the morning on Saturday, the opening
    of the show is usually exciting.  Last year, they lowered the house
    lights, and drove each judge to his/her judging ring in a chauffer
    driven Excalibur!  It was really fun.  (don't worry, they give all
    exhibitors about 10 separate warnings that the house lights will
    be going down for the introduction of the judges so that no one
    is caught with their cat out in the dark)  The judging starts at
    10:00am on Saturday, and 9:00am on Sunday.  I have requested end
    of row benching, so I shouldn't be too hard to find. (hah!)
    
    The cat trees made out of branches are usually there, and are a
    big hit with the consumers.  I would love to have one, but don't
    have anywhere to put one right now.

For people coming from the North, via Route 3:

Leave the highway at exit 1 (Spit Brook Road).  Turn left, under the 
highway, and go through the traffic light and to the entrance of the 
Red Roof Inn, less than one-tenth of a mile, on your right.


From the Red Roof Inn to the Show Hall:

At the end of the driveway of the hotel, turn right and go to the
third traffic light.  Stay in the left lane and prepare to turn left.
The Green Ridge Turkey Farm Restaurant is on the corner to your left. 
Turn left onto the Daniel Webster Highway.  Go straight ahead, heading 
North, to the second traffic light.  Stay in the right lane, because 
you will turn right, onto the bridge across the Merrimack River and 
into Hudson.  At the end of the bridge there is a traffic light; turn 
left, here, onto Route 3A, and head North.  Do not drive in the right 
lane or you will be forced to turn right.  Go straight ahead to the 
second traffic light, some 4.7 miles.  Turn right, here, onto Central 
Street, and go one-half mile; the Memorial School entrance is on your 
right.

    Well, I will definitely be in Medina, and anyone trying for a kitten
    win should be there too (hint, hint, Elaine and Cin and those great
    Exotic babies).  We always bring champagne to Medina, to celebrate
    all the cats who have granded in the season.  Medina is one big
    party.  I swear, I came home so exhausted last year, between those
    early morning wake up calls, and not going to bed until 3:00am!
    
    Anyway, I wish I could be there to celebrate with you.  Moody is
    close to granding, only needs 17 points, so while you are all together,
    send some good vibes his way too.
    
    This year in Medina, we may have lots to celebrate!  I am doing
    my best to put Limoges in a regional win.  With only three weekends
    to go of the show season, I hope that we can do it.  
    
    Ken and I have been toying with the idea of campaigning Moody next
    year if his attitude holds, so who knows, maybe you all will see
    me out there sometime soon.

    Okay, when is Medina, what was the Premier count last 2 years,
    and can you ("me") get their by plane?

    Medina is the SCBF show (Sacred Cat of Burma Fanciers) and it is
    held the last weekend of August every year.  I will bring the premier
    count with me tomorrow.  The counts are usually high at Medina,
    since that is the Birman show, and those Birmans show up en force.
    Last year, there were 20 Birmans in the premiership class, I think,
    that would up the count a bit.  
    
    The show takes a 450 entry, and fills *early* so if you are planning
    to go, get your entry in early. 
    
    Medina is a small town outside of Cleveland, OH.  Make flight
    arrangements to Chicago, and then connect onto Cleveland.  Medina
    is a 20 minute drive from Cleveland.  SCBF usually arranges to pick
    up and deliver any out of town exhibitors, so usually a rental car
    isn't needed.  If you know someone that you can split a rental car
    with, that is another option.
    
    United usually has flights available for Medina since they hub in
    Chicago.  It is only about a 30 minute flight from Chicago to
    Cleveland.  Last year, Nancy J. and Linda S. drove to Medina from
    your area (I think it is your area), maybe you could hop a ride
    with them.

    Cleveland via Chicago. (a little out of the way)
    
    I believe United, American, and Northwest airlines all have direct
    flights from Logan to Hopkins (Cleveland).
    
    When we lived just outside of Cleveland in Berea, Medina was a place if
    you wanted to go for a LONG drive out into the country that is where
    you went, but then they built the sport center in Richfield and all
    that changed.

    Well, let's put it this way, E.T., just think about it, your first
    ring wouldn't be at 9:00am sharp!!  You could actually sleep in!
    
    Barbara, you are right, wouldn't make much sense to fly to Chicago
    if you were coming from the east coast.  :^)  I am just used to
    dealing with west coast type of flight schedules.  No one flys directly
    to Cleveland from the west coast.  I either have to connect through
    Dallas, Salt Lake, Denver, or Chicago.
    
    One year, I flew non-stop to Washington DC and then drove to Medina
    with Sheri.  It cost me less money, earned me more frequent flyer
    miles, and was the most fun in Medina that I have ever had.  Too
    bad I can't do that this year too.  Sheri now lives in Hawaii, so
    it is out of the question.
    
    BTW - the going rate for airfares from California to Medina has
    been running about $288.00 for the last four years.  I will check
    what it is this year, but would be interested in how much it will
    cost you east coasters.

    Wow!  That's more of an incentive than you realize - I'm NOT a
    morning person - SLEEP is my middle name. 

    Yup. ...and the judging got over at a reasonable hour too. ..so
    we had lots of time to 'socialize'. 'Course SLEEP wasn't a word
    we mentioned much all weekend. Too much to talk about to waste
    our time with that!
    
    The motel was decent ...the rates reasonable ..and the company
    unsurpassed! :^)

    The funniest thing that happened to me last year in Medina was when
    Sheri, Suzie and I decided to call the desk for a wake up call.
    The lady on the other end said "7:00am today?????", and I said yes.
    She then said, "but that is only 3 1/2 hours away" and I said, "yes,
    I know that, and I am sure that if you don't give me a wakeup call,
    I will never get up on my own!!".  By the end of the weekend, she
    was pretty used to us calling at 3:00am for a wakeup call at 6:00
    or 7:00am, the same day!  She would answer our call with, "hi ladies, 
    what time do you want to get up today?" :^)  
    
    I imagine that if you weren't sharing a room with someone you hadn't
    seen in a year, you might be able to get a bit more sleep.  
    
    Also, another funny Medina story.... we were having a Birman
    celebration in Julie's room, had champagne out, and were toasting
    recent grands.  We had spread the word throughout the motel that
    the party was in Julie's room.  Lots of people were showing up,
    most of whom we were meeting for the first time.  When there was
    a knock at the door, we would just open it, invite the person in
    and hand them a glass of champagne.  Well, this one guy came to
    the door and asked if this was where the party was.  We said yes,
    invited him in, and he joined us in toasting the grands.  About
    a half hour later, it was discovered that he had nothing to do with
    cats, was a guest in the motel that was there on business!!  We
    all got quite a hoot out of that! :^)

    I couldn't find the '89 catalog from the SCBF, but found the one
    from '88.  There were over 50 cats entered in premiership, 41 present
    and competing in '88.  I am sure that '89 was a larger class.  The
    show has gotten bigger every year.  We are also filling up sooner,
    used to be two weeks before the show, last year is was almost 4
    weeks before the show.  Get your entries in early.

    This is in response to the request, in another note, to list 
    upcoming shows.   Now that the show season is over things will 
    be very quiet around the New England area until the fall.  The 
    only show I'm aware of is in Salem Ma (Salem Hs) on June 30-July 1st.  
    It will be Bonnie's first show as an adult.  She'll be exactly
    8 months old on 6/30.

    themselves.  Folks had a problem with the notes that were not

    Isn't the change of fold standard intended to discourage the breedings
    that cause the tail stiffness, and to concentrate more on the overall
    cat than just the folded ears?  I interpreted the change to be good
    for folds, not bad.  Also, I don't remember the standard changing
    to allow straight ears to be shown, only to take some of the emphasis
    off the ears as they relate to the overall cat.
    
    Being a Birman breeder, I am sensitive to standards that place too
    much emphasis on just one part of the cat (like the gloves on a
    Birman).  That allows cats that have that one good feature, but
    overall poor quality to do better than cats that are overall better,
    but maybe not as strong in that one quality.  (Did that make sense?
    :^}) In the case of Birmans, I have seen many bad Birmans with perfect
    gloves win BOB awards over very nice Birmans with slight gloving
    irregularities.
    
    I guess I just feel that cats should be judged by the sum of all
    their parts.
    
    Cin, care to comment on the proposed change to the Persian standard?
    :^)  We were talking about it with Vicki Dickerson and she is very
    much for it.  My understanding is that again the breeders are trying
    to emphasize the whole cat, and not just how extreme the break is.

    Jo -
      I don't know much about the reasoning behind the change.  I just
    got a copy of the new breed standard from Beverly Hardacre.  My
    original thinking was that it is the ears that make Scottish FOlds
    unique and to take points off the ears was to take away some of
    the uniqueness of the cats - especially if the only reason was to
    allow the showing of straight-earred folds.  
      However - having listened to your perspective, I must agree with
    you that a cat with only one good characteristic certainly shouldn't
    get BOB over another cat that is a more overall good example of the
    breed and maybe that's what's happened in CFA to motivate the
    change.  I also know that I am terribly disappointed that Bonnie
    won't be shown CFA because of the changes.  She has many excellent
    qualities but the wrong coat type.  The tail stiffness can be bred
    out.  I still plan on breeding her once to a British shorthair most
    likely to try and counter the stiffness.  If her kittens develop stiff
    tails she'll be spayed.  This decision is based on information I've
    gotten from other fold breeders.

    I can understand your disappointment in not being able to show Bonnie
    in CFA.  How many points are put on the coat texture?  I have shown
    Birmans with slight faults, and have found that if the cat has strong
    overall type, most judges are willing to overlook slight imperfections.
    As they say, there are no *perfect* examples of any breed yet. 
    Maybe you could try Bonnie out in CFA a time or two and see how
    she does.  
    
    Is the difference in coat textures coming from the outcrosses that
    CFA Fold breeders use?  I would think that your idea of breeding
    to a British Shorthair would bring about a change in coat texture
    too.  That type of breeding might improve both the tails and the
    coats.
    
    I am really interested in other breeds, and how the breeders set
    up their breeding programs.  If you want to share more ideas, maybe
    we could take the discussion off line.  I hate to have taken the
    discussion off on a tangent again, but this kind of thing really
    interests me.

    maybe you could start a seperate note regarding breeding, and the
    standards.  Although I might never get to breeding cats, I will be
    breeding horses in the next year or two, and I like to read/hear
    about responsible breeding and how people go about selecting stud
    to help the breed, ect.  It is a topic they don't really discuss in
    equitation notes....but a general process I find very interesting.
    
    I can relate to both your concerns about imperfect coats, color ect,
    and think I can apply any general knowledge to what I want to do,
    although I might not participate as much.... ;*)
    
    

    I just got the confirmation.  I will be showing Ferlie as an HHP in the
    June 30-July 1 Salem CFF Show.  This is my first show as a participant, so
    I'm a little nervous.  Nancy, the slip says benched with Nancy DC, so I
    guess I stop worrying some, as I *know* you'll help out a lot.  I also
    got a double cage so I can bring Velcro along to keep Ferlie company. 
    I'm looking forward to seeing out how well Ferlie does in a show.

    DIGITs Exhibiting in the CFF show this coming weekend, please be
    aware of the difference in the benching time and starting time
    for the judging on Saturday.  If you have friends exhibiting 
    that won't read this, please make sure that they are aware of
    the benching and starting time.  The real benching time should
    be written on your confirmation.
    
               Saturday:  Benching: 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
    
                          Judging:  9:00 a.m.
    
               Sunday:  same as Saturday
    
    The flyer mentioned benching from 8:30 to 9:30 and judging starting at
    10 am.    There was a printing error on the show flyer, so readjust
    your schedules for getting out of the house on Saturday morning.
    Sigh, you now have to get up at 5 am instead of 5:30 !!
    
    There are almost 300 entries and all 10 rings will be running
    both days, with tons of vendors.  Should be an interesting show for
    all. Judging and finals going on in every ring all day both days.

    The time for this weekend's show is I believe 9-6 both days.  As for
    dress, anything is appropriate.  I've seen anywhere from sweatsuits
    (right Cin??? (-:) to dresses. Usually people just dress casually
    (jeans and whatever).
    
    and PLEASE bring purrpot pictures!!  I will bring mine this time.  If
    anyone wants to come and see me, I'll be clerking for Nancy Belser. 
    I'm bringing Sweetie and Silver with me and will have pictures of the
    rest of the clan.  The best time to see me is on Sunday.  Hope to see

    Just a word of caution for those planning to enter the SeaCoast
    Cat Show August 18th and 19th:
    
    This is a VERY popular show, which fills VERY early, usually BEFORE
    the closing date.  SO, if you are planning to enter:  DO IT NOW !!!
    so you won't get closed out.  If memory serves me, I think they had
    to return on the order of 80 or 90 odd entries the last two years!!

    I can remember the show in Concord two years ago, (not Seacoast
    sponsored) but it was in the winter with NO HEAT. Poor cats were
    shivering, and the exhibitors were too. I figured the exhibitiors
    have brains enought to say, This is very bad for myself and my cat,
    and by leaving the sponsoring organization will know, this is...
    UNEXCEPTABLE.
    
    Why don't they have shows in halls where "EVERYONE" can be
     comfortable?

    Yup, we all remember that show in Concord....right, E.T.!!!  ;-)
    
    Actually, the show in Concord was suppose to be heated, but if I
    remember correctly, the heating system failed.  They did have large
    propane heaters in the building in the morning, but because of the
    dangers, they had to be shut off when they started letting in the
    spectators.  
    
    A non ACed show hall really doesn't bother me....I don't have AC in my
    house, and my cats have to deal with it.  DWeeBs really won't care if
    he's in a show hall or in my house....the temperature will probably be
    the same.  I just thought that people who keep their cats in AC all the
    time should know.  These are the cats that have a hard time dealing
    with the non-ACed halls.  
    
    Unfortunately, this organization doesn't care whether people enter the
    show or not, they KNOW they will fill.  In fact, like E.T. said, they
    always end up sending entries back.  
    
    I just thought it important to mention here, in case people were
    considering entering.  
    
    I've entered DWeeBs, and I'll also probably have a couple of kittens
    there, but, the temperature for them won't be any different than if
    they were at home.

    BTW, the Seacoast Cat Club was very honest in their flyer, and did
    state that the hall was not climate controlled.  So, I figure that they
    have at least informed people, and everyone has a choice to enter or
    not based on all the facts.
    
    

    I remember that show.  It was my first cat show on April 1.  i noticed
    this year that the show was held in a different hall.
    
    re: heat - Some cats may not mind it, but others sure do.  There
    was a cat that had a seizure at the CFF international cat show and
    it was attributed to heat.

    Being an exhibitor is kind of like being a mailman...not rain, not
    snow, not dead of night (or something like that!), will keep us
    away. :^)
    
    The AC failed in Santa Barbara this weekend and it was miserable.
    But, I couldn't consider leaving, my cat was doing too well, and
    he wasn't at all affected by the temp.  My house isn't air conditioned
    either.  At least Santa Barbara is on the coast, and the show hall
    had some nice breezes blowing through when the doors opened.

    All I can say, is sorry folks!  The show hall people didn't tell
    me when I rented the hall that all the heaters were condemed and
    wouldn't be fixed before the show!  It was $1500.00 down the tubes,
    if ya know what I mean!

    Elaine, there are just some things that you never live down!  I
    too had some trouble with climate control at a show that I was show
    manager for.  Not only was the heater not working, but the AC was,
    full blast...in the middle of winter!!  
    
    To top that off, we lost our judges on Saturday morning.  Sent a
    limo over to the hotel to get them.  No one saw the limo arrive
    and drop off passengers.  A call to the hotel confirmed that the
    limo had come and gone.  So, where were the judges???  We sent out
    search parties to discreetly look for them all around the show grounds.
    We told the spectators that we would be a little late in getting
    started.
    
    After about an hour of searching, we discovered that the limo had
    picked up some exhibitors at the show hotel, not the judges.  The
    judges were sitting at the show hotel, in the restaurant, patiently
    waiting for us.  I have never been so embarrassed in my life!! 
    And, to top it off, I spent over a $100 to have a limo pick up a
    group of spectators that were supposed to be carted for free by
    the hotel!!

    Climate Control!  Ha, all we had was frost!  Couldn't you shut
    the AC off? Or someone shut it off?  That must have been extra
    special!  I think exhibitors should write a book!  There should
    be a chapter called, 'Hotels to Avoid', another on, 'How to Write
    Directions to a Show Hall and the Show Hotel', another on, 'How
    to Make Plane Reservations for Judges' etc. etc. !!!
    
    Good lord, it's a wonder that shows actually make it from start to
    finish.  I sometimes wonder if folks really know what goes into
    putting on a show.  
    
    Did you ever show up at a show hall with your club sponsoring, at 6:30
    am with 200 odd cats arriving in short order and HAVE NO KITTY LITTER
    in the show hall ?  That was interesting !!  I guess we all could go
    on and on!  As we always say, showing is FUN !!

    Yeah, I have.... but luckily An-Jan's is just down the street from
    the show hall and they opened at 8:00 am that day!  
    
    Putting on a show is a heck of a lot of work.  Especially when your
    club only has 5 or 6 members.  Our next show is January 5 & 6, 1991.
    It will be a 450 count show, and we only have 5 active members in
    our club.  I have already started on the publicity, and the preliminary
    stuff, like vendors, show hotel, judges dinner, and cages.  Anyone
    want to join the club and help out??
    
    BTW - if anyone is interested in helping me out by passing out our
    show flyer at east coast shows, drop me a line.  I am looking for
    volunteers to pass them out at CFA shows. (can only be passed out
    at other CFA shows).  We are going up against Houston this year,
    a big campaign show.  We are looking to make good money on this
    show so that we can donate a sizeable chunk to Morris Animal Foundation
    to be used for FIP research.

    three weeks early last year, and had to send about 50 entries back,
    but last year we only did a 225 show.  That was what prompted us
    to go for the 450 and try and compete with Houston.

    and a lot of your other members don't show, you pretty much get
    to pick who you want to judge.  But, I had to pick judges that I
    thought would draw other breeds too.  I hope I did alright.
    
    Marion Butler is a new judge, a siamese breeder, who needed a judging
    assignment out of her region in order to be advanced to approved.
    We are doing each other a favor, I am giving her an out of region
    assignment, and hopefully she will draw lots of Siamese, Balinese,
    Orientals and Javanese for me.
    
    Hey Elaine, think of it this way...California in the winter time,
    versus MA or NH in the winter time.  :^)  You will be on the first
    plane.

    Well, it was 94 in Morgan Hill yesterday, but...the humidity was
    only about 28%.  It is a nice dry heat, and we have a good breeze
    blowing.  
    
    Santa Barbara was a whole 'nuther story though.  I have never been
    so uncomfortable at a show (except maybe the time the AC was stuck
    in the on position in the middle of winter).
    
    Picture sunny California in January, mild breeze blowing, clear
    skies, temp about 60.  Let's see, MA in January, blowing snow, ice
    on everything, and temp about -20.  I know which climate I would
    rather show in!  :^)

    This reminds me, Elaine, Kathryn and James Daugherty are going to

To the Residence Inn:  Take left onto Beech St (one way, the opposite 
direction of Maple) from the Coliseum out to S. Willow St.  Follow out to Rt 
101 West.  Take 101 west to Rt 3 ( Everett Tnpk) south.  Take Rt 3 south to 
Exit 11 in Merrimack.  Take right turn off exit 11 ramp.  Go under the 
highway to the lights at the next corner.  Turn right and go about 1/2 mile 
to the Inn on the right side.

To Holiday Inn West:  Go left on Maple St.  Take first left onto Auburn St, 
and go about 5 blocks to Elm St.  Take right onto Elm St and go about seven 
traffic lights to Salmon St.  (The sign will say "to Rt 93".)  Turn left and 
cross the Amoskeag Bridge.  Turn left into Holiday Inn West at the next set 
of lights. 

To Days Inn:  Take left out of hall onto Beech St.  Follow Beech St out to 
and turn left onto S. Willow St.  Take S. Willow back toward highway until 
you see the Friendly's on the right.  Turn right just past the Friendly's 
onto John Devine Drive, and the Days Inn driveway is to the left.

    Is anyone going to any cat shows in the near future.  I need a few

    The Nashua show is Friday, Saturday , and Sunday.
    September 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.  TICA show in Nashua
    
    Friday, the show starts at 3 pm and runs until 9 pm.
    Saturday, probably 9 to 5 
    Sunday, 9 to 5.
    
    Maybe if Cin has a minute she will put in the details and directions.
    All I know is that it's off Route 3 (D.W. Highway) Exit 7W, 
    go up to the Burger King turnaround, where you reverse direction,
    go straight across and the hall is (I think) on the left.
    These directions are NOT for sure exact - I'm not entered, so I
    don't have the printed ones from the show committe. 

    I'll be going to the TICA show on Friday and Saturday, and the
    Framingham show on Sunday.  I'll try to remember to post directions to
    the TICA show tomorrow.

Directions to St. Stanislaus Hall...

From Rte 3, take Exit 6, Rte 130 (Broad Street).  If you're northbound, you'll
turn right at the end of the ramp.  If you're southbound, turn left at the
lights.  Once on Broad Street, less than 100 yards from the end of the ramp,
you will get into a left turn lane and turn left onto Blue Hill Avenue.
Blue Hill Avenue has a sharp curve, then you go over the highway.  At this
point, Blue Hill Avenue magically turns into Pine Hill Road.  There are no
signs, but it does become Pine Hill Road.  Follow this road exactly 1/2 mile
from where you turned onto Blue Hill Ave to St. Stan's on your right.  It
will be the only building on your right once you pass over the highway.

If you're heading southbound on Rte 3, you can take Exit 7W, turn into
the jug handle at the Burger King (stay in the right hand lane), and go
straight thru the lights onto Charron Avenue (between Gateway VW and Peters
Nissan).  Cross the railroad track (you gotta stop at the tracks), and
Charron Avenue ends at Pine Hill Road.  Turn left, go 1/2 mile, past
Pulaski Park, past the cemetary, and St. Stan's Hall is on your left.

There is plenty of parking on the right side of the hall, but folks do
park on the street.  It's pretty safe.

    I will also be at the TICA show (with a sales cage only) on
    Fri/Sat and in Framingham w/ DUndee & kittens, on Sunday.

    Not to be a kill joy, but can't some of these announcements be deleted? 
    The first one is almost 9 months past, the latest one has come and gone
    too.  My Data Center keeps giving me  you knowwhat, for carrying all

    The Marlboro show is on Saturday, November 10th, at the Assabet Valley
    Regional High School off of Route 85 on the Hudson/Marlboro town line. 
    The High School is easily accessible from Route 495.  I believe the
    exit # is 25A, but it says Route 85 Marlboro/Hudson.  At the end of the
    ramp, go straight to the second set of traffic lights and turn right. 
    The High School is on the left.

show entry cutoff is?

    The cutoff for the Marlboro show is already passed and that show

     Is there a list of CFF/CFA shows available that extends into next
    year ? Has one been posted in this conference ? I've looked at both
    the latest issues of Cats & Cat Fanciers mag and they list through
    Oct/Nov. I'm a new cat fanciers (or DFF if you will) and I'm interested
    in showing. I'll be attending the shows in Salem and Marlboro to get
    and idea of show structure and procedures. Will all you DFF who attend
    be wearing your badges ????? Also, after looking at the keywords in
    this conference, I have found only a base note for cat shows and dates
    (this one). Is there a topic dedicated to showing, ie, benching rules,
    procedures, definitions, etc.

    I second the CFA Almanac suggestion.  A show is entered in the Almanac
    as soon as it is licensed.  Some clubs license their shows several
    years in advance.  The Almanac is available from CFA for $18.00
    for a one year subscription (12 issues).
    
    Also, order a copy of the show rules and standards.  They are $2.00
    each from CFA (hurry, they will be going up to $3.00 each in January).

    FROM THE NORTH:  Take Route 93 south to Exit 2 in NH.  At the base of
    the ramp turn right onto Main Street (Rt. 97) and go 1.5 miles (3 sets
    of traffic lights) to Geremonty Drive and turn right (at the Kelly
    Library).  The Salem High School is .2 miles on the right.

    Seriously, does anyone know a more direct route to get to Salem from 
    Nashua than taking Rt. 111 to Rt. 93 (at exit 3), then going south to 
    exit 1? It seems like there must be a shorter way but I don't have a 
    map of Salem.

    Also, how does the Salem, NH show compare to the Manchester and Nashua 
    shows, from a non-participant's perspective? I went to the Manchester 
    show in August and had a *great* time! There were many different breeds 
    to see, a variety of goodies to buy, Feliners and their cats to meet, 
    cats to adopt from Derry Humane (I like to look, even if I'm not in the 
    market), and more! I stayed longer than I thought I would and spent more 
    than I dreamed I would (most of it on a new cat tree). The Nashua show 
    was much smaller and didn't have nearly as much as Manchester, so I was 
    really disappointed. My husband was very surprised to see me back home 
    after 40 minutes. I'd like to know what to expect from the Salem show.

    The Salem show is small.  225 entries, 6 rings (3 each day).  I am not
    certain how many vendors will be there and who they are.  I generally
    prefer CFA shows over TICA.  The Nashua show was a TICA show, and it
    was very small.
    
    Hey, just the fact that lots of us Feliners will be there should lure
    you to the show!  Come by and meet us and our kitties.
    
    Oh, and I took those directions directly from my confirmation and don't
    see anything on how to get there from the West!!

    The TICA show was small, but I think the main reason it seemed like
    there wasn't as much to see is because there were no vendors.  I think
    the entries were fairly close in numbers, except that Manchester was
    spread out a bit more.
    
    The show in Salem is the same size as Manchester, and I expect there
    will be several vendors in Salem.  
    
    Anyway, I'll be there too, so stop by and say Hi, Linda....At least it
    won't be as HOT as Manchester!  ;-)

     I'm getting little Bijou ready for his big debut. Yup. My blue buddy
    and I will be hitting the show circuit soon. He'll be three months next
    week and by the later part of December will be eligible for kitten
    class. I'd like to get him some show experience early and the earliest
    show available for him would be the TICA show in Boston, December
    29/30. Would it be worth me registering him with TICA for the
    experience ?? I was only planning to show him CFF and CFA but I would
    show him in TICA if it was worthwhile. Is this show (Dec 29/30) a good
    show ?? Are any of you east coast FELINERS entered in this show ??

    You don't have to register him in TICA in order to show him in that
    show.  But, if he does well you will probably kick yourself since he
    won't be scored for wins if he isn't registered.  :^)  But, if you are
    just going to try it out and see how he does, just put down that his
    registration number is "pending".  You can do that with kittens in CFA
    and I think that TICA allows it too.  
    
    I only show in CFA now.  I used to show TICA too, but decided that I
    didn't want to split my limited showing funds between two associations.
    I chose the association where I felt the wins meant the most (TICA
    isn't very big out here, and there are not many cats to compete
    against).  You will probably notice that your cat does better in one 
    association than another.  That may be in part due to the fact that 
    the written standards for your breed vary between associations.  
    
    If it were me, I would probably take Bijou to the TICA show without
    registering him, just to see how he likes it and how he behaves at a
    show.  Then, you can decide whether to register him in TICA or not.

    I should have probably put in my previous note that I am a
    new reader of feline. I think it's a great note, and I have learned
    a great deal. I am also a cat lover. I have a seal point himalayan.
    
    I am in the process of looking for another himalayan, and am possibly
    considering showing. I would like to know the ins and outs...basically
    what happens at shows. That's why I would like to attend one. It
    doesn't have to be the Boston show in Dec. I've seen a note about
    a show in Marlboro. Would that show be a good one to go to? As I
    asked before, can anyone attend cat shows?
    
    Can someone provide me with some information about what I need to
    know? Or, point me to a note that is about showing?

    Haverill is off of Rt. 495 North.  However, 495 is closed at the 93
    intersect, so how does one go about reaching their destination?
    
    This would be helpful for the folks going to Danvers via 495.  I have
    directions that say to take 495 to the Rt. 114/Andover exit.  Go right
    off the exit.  Follow 114 to Middleton Square where it joins Route 62. 
    Take a left onto Route 62 East, go past the Essex Agricultural School
    and continue along until you pass under Rt. 1 and Rt. 95.  Take a left
    onto Nichols Street and an immediate right onto Spring Street where you
    will see St. Johns on the left.  The show is in the gym, 3rd building
    down.
    
    You can also get to Danvers via Rt. 95.  The show directions say to
    take exit 50 and then take Rt. 1, but I was told to continue on 95 past
    exit 50 and get off on Rt. 62 East and then take the first left onto
    Nichols and immediate right onto Spring.

    Here are the directions for the HAVERHILL show.
    
    I 495 to exit 49 in Haverhill Mass.  If coming North on 495 it
    will be marked Rte 110 and Rte 113, River street.  At the  end
    of the ramp bear right.
    
    If coming south on 495 BE CAREFUL, it is a double exit with 49 being
    the second - market Rte 110.  Haverhill and Georgetown.  Turn LEFT
    at the end of the ramp and go over highway.  
    
    To show hall - 
    On Left Ho-Jo Motel and restaurant and a gulf station and mall.
    Between Restaurant and Gas station is a road - Lowell ave - turn
    left onto Lowell ave - follow Lowell as it turns right at the end
    of the Mall.  Go past all of the apartment complexes and then there 
    is a fork in the road.  Bear RIGHT onto WASHINGTON STREET - Follow
    Washinngton for approx 1/2 mile - the show hall (ALBERT B CONSTENTINO
    SCHOOL) is on your left. 

    How do none-showers find out what shows are upcoming?
    
    Are they listed in one of the cat magazines?  And, if so, for
    how far in advance?
    
    I haven't yet been able to get to one (the past 2 years have
    been beyond crazy) but would like to start going after the
    holidays.
    
    Since I work some weekend days at my second job, my free days
    get planned up pretty far in advance so the earlier that I
    could find out what was where, the better chance I have of
    actually getting to a show someday.

    Gee Nancy, can't you contact the show manager or entry clerk? At least
    the entry clerk to see if you made it into the show before you drive
    all that way!  Also check your mail to see if they returned your
    entry if the show filled before your entry got there.  Sounds like

    Just as a clue to those of you that are agenting cats for friends and

    agent, it isn't working!!  I am being told that people are misusing the

    I was advised to keep marking mine the way I used to.  So from now on I
    will mark it PLEASE SEND CONFIRMATION TO AGENT!!!

    judging there this weekend and that Wayne and Stan had gone there early

         Does anyone know about the annual Boston Cat-Show?  I've
    heard it will be held somewhere around Copley Plaza, and that this
    is a larger show than the suburban ones.  Last info I received, is
    that it will be held in February.

    The show will be held the weekend of February 9th and 10th at the
    Marriott Hotel in Copley Place.  This is a CFA sponsored show and it is
    HUGE.  The gate is astromonical.
    
    The Marriott is located directly off the Mass Pike but parking will be
    expensive.  If you do plan to go, come early when the crowds are
    thinner.

    Hear Ye, Hear Ye,
    
    There will be a cat show at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds on
    Saturday and Sunday, January 5th-6th.  The show hall is the Expo Hall.
    Admission is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for senior and kids aged 12-18,
    and kids under 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by their
    parents.  I have a limited number of discount coupons worth $1 off on
    admission.  If you are interested, stop by my desk or give me a call at 
    DTN 521-4246.
    
    We have 310 cats entered in this show!  This will be one of the largest
    shows in California this year.  (The SF show in March is about the same
    size).  I have four cats of my own entered, and several other feliners, 
    including Marlene Balzer, Jan Cordes, and Jill Grafton will also be 
    there.  It promises to be a great time.  We have tons of vendors coming 
    too.  So, if your kitty didn't get what he wanted for Christmas, he can
    send his shopping list with you.  :^)
    
    Plan to pay a fee for parking at the fairgrounds, sorry but this is
    beyond my control.

    For you west coasters:
    
    Barbary Coast cat club is holding it's second annual cat show this
    weekend at the Hall of Flowers in Golden Gate Park.  Hall of Flowers is
    roughly located at the intersection of 9th and Lincoln.  Show hours are
    9:00am to 5:00pm both days.
    
    Also, March 2-3 Poppy State Cat Club will be holding their show in
    Vallejo at the Solano County Fairgrounds.  The fairgrounds are located
    just across the street from Marina World/Africa USA.  That show starts
    at Noon on Saturday and 9:00am on Sunday.
    
    March 16-17 is the date of the San Francisco Revelers show.  This is a
    huge show, and is always interesting to attend.  It draws exhibitors
    from all over the states, and some of the top cats in the country will
    be in attendance.  On the campaign trail, this is considered a "must
    attend" show.  So, the big wigs will be here for all the spectators to
    see.  Revelers is one of the biggest shows in the country, and it is
    certainly the largest in California.  Mark your calendars.

    Thought I'd take a moment and enter directions for the Bristol RI
    show.  The directions were given from Boston or New York.  I'm only
    going to enter those for Boston.  If you need the others send me
    mail and I"ll post them.
    
    I suspect most of you folks should take 495 South to 24, but 
    check your maps.
    
    From BOSTON:
      Route 93 South to Route 24 south.  Follow signs towards Newport RI 
    Take Portsmouth & Bristol Exit.  Take a right at the end of the exit. 
    Follow Route 138 straight through traffic light and over the Mount
    Hope Bridge.  A short ways after the bridge stay to your right and you
    will see Roger Williams College on your right.
    
    I assume there will be signs to direct you to the right building.
    At least I HOPE there will be signs....

    addendum:  If anyone is coming out of Boston (which I doubt)
    the directions are a bit misleading.  You would take 93 south
    to the Rte 3 split and follow signs for 128 NORTH (which is
    the same as 93 South at that point - Talk about confusing).
    You'll pass exits for Route 37 and Route 28 before coming to
    a left hand exit for Route 24.
    
    Consult a map to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.
    The way the directions are written I could see someone
    staying on Rte 3 rather than taking 128.

    Dana went to school at Roger Williams and said those directions s*ck.
    He said from 195, DON'T get onto Route 24 (cause it's roundabout), but
    instead, take the Route 114 exit, which is before Route 24.  Follow 114
    to Roger Williams.  It will be on the LEFT before the Mt. Hope bridge. 
    Route 114 and 138 actually meet once you cross the bridge.  And, there
    is a toll for the bridge, not sure how much tho.
    

    Actually, my directions are meant for anyone who is taking 495 South to
    95 South to 195.
    

    I just got my confirmation for Kennebunk on April 20!  Shadow and
    the irrepressible CC Rider will be attending.

    Here are the directions to the Cranston RI show this weekend.  I'll
    be there with Shadow hoping to make Grand (19 points to go).  See you

    1. From the South:
      Rte 95 to exit 11 (left exit) onto Rt 295 N. Go .6 miles to exit 3B
      for Phenix ave. via Rt 37.  Go 1/2 mile to end of Rte 37.  Turn
      right at blinker onto Phenix Ave.  Showhall is 1/2 mile on Right.
    
    2. From the North via Rte 95:
      Rte 95 South to exit 14 for Rte 37 west. (Stay in right lane on exit
      ramp)  Follow 37 West to end (2.4 miles).  Turn right at blinker onto
      Phenix ave.  Showhall is 1/2 mile on right.
    
    3. From the North via Rte 146:
      Rte 146 South.  pick up Rte 296 South and prceed as in #4 below.
    
    4. From the North via Rte 295:
      Rte 295 South the Exit 3B for Rte 37 and Phenix Ave.  Turn right at
      blinker light onto Phenix Ave.  Showhall is 1/2 mile on right.
    
    5. From the West via Rtes 101 & 6:
      Pick up Rte 295 South and proceed as in #4 above.
    
    6. From the East via Rte 195
      Rte 195 West.  in providence area, stay in either of the two left
      lanes, and pick up Rte 95 south.  Proceed as in #2 above.

    Directions to the pet care fair are easy. If you can get anywhere
    near Concord Ma there will be signs posted at all the major roads
    inbound.  Rt.2, 2A, and 62 are all roads that lead to town.
    Thoreau St. can be found by making your way to the middle of town
    and looking for Snow Pharmacy as it's the first building at the
    start of the street. Come early and have brunch at the Colonial
    Inn!  (in your case if you stay on Rt.3 and exit Concord Rd you
    can pick up Rt.62W in Bedford and it will take you right into
    Concord center and will take less time than 495/2 .

    I kept thinking this Pet fair was Saturday until Steve pointed
    out to me this morning that the 5th is Sunday!  I am so busy these
    days that I just know I would have showed up on Saturday!

    Would anyone who shows TICA know what the "Color Code" would be for a
    brown tabby and white cat?  TICA entry forms require the color AND
    color code be listed on form.  I'm thinking of entering one of my cats
    in the HHP class of a Fall show (our first TICA show) but am not
    familiar with TICA's color codes.

    In order to find the color code, you would have to have a copy of the
    TICA show rules.  What you can do, since it is a HHP and has no
    registration number, is ask the entry clerk to fill in the color code.
    
    In CFA, the color class number is part of the cat's registration
    number.

    You shouldn't have to call.  In CFA, they don't require color class
    numbers on household pets.  You can probably just attach a note to your
    entry form telling the clerk that your cat is a tabby and white and ask
    if she could figure out the color code for you.  Also tell her that she
    can call you collect if she needs more info.  Most will be happy to
    help a new exhibitor.

    Hi.. MS Preschie is a Brown tabby and white, and I beleive that the
    color code is part of the reg#, I usually just put the reg # down
    and no one has ever called me to indicate I was doing anything wrong,
    when I fill out the TICA entry form.

    as  Kissy will be there,, it will be her 1st show.. tee-hee..

    Since you are a new exhibitor, and are showing a household pet, the 
    association and/or entry clerk should be more than willing to help 
    you, regardless of what association you are showing.
    
    CFA does not register household pets, and does not require the owners
    of household pets to give any more information than what the cat's name
    is, what it's birthdate is, if it is spayed/neutered and what the
    owner's name and address is.  TICA splits household pets off into color
    classes but if memory serves, the classes are solid, tabby, tabby and
    white, pointed, parti-color, etc.  So, your cat would be in the tabby
    and white division.  If there is a number that corresponds to that
    division, then the entry clerk will know it (or her computer program
    will).
    
    It was me that suggested the note to the entry clerk, but if you
    really want this taken care of in advance of sending your entry, either
    call the entry clerk and ask, or call TICA and ask them. The TICA
    number may be entered in note #666.

    Seacoast Cat Club.  Does anyone know details such as entry clerk,
    affiliated with CFF, CFA, or TICA?
    
    Show was mentioned in Animal Sense in a vendor's ad.  Other than dates
    and that it will be held at Goodtime Roller Skating Center, Daniel
    Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH, that's all I know.

    at this show.  However, I received my confirmation last night (for
    Dandy) and he wrote a note saying due to lack of room, it was decided

    Take 93 South to 293 South/101 West.  Exit will say Manchester,
    Bedford, Salem (last exit before toll).  Bear right off the exit -
    Jordan Marsh will be on the right.  Stay in left lane.  Follow ramp,
    turn right onto Rt. 3 South.  Stay in left lane.  Follow Rte. 3 approx.
    3.5 miles (past the AAA building and the Manchester Country Club).  You
    will bear left at the Texaco gas station.  After approx. 2 miles the
    Good Times Roller Skating Center driveway will be on your right.
    
    FROM THE SOUTH:
    
    Either 128 or 495 to Rt. 3 North.  This becomes the F.E. Everett
    Turnpike in Nashua, NH.  Follow to Exit 12 Bedford Road.  At the end of
    the ramp, turn right.  Take your first left at the set of lights (Rte.
    3).  There will be a 7-11 convenience store directly facing you. 
    Follow Rt. 3 approx. 2 miles to the Good Times Roller Skating Center,

    I have found the breeder/judges tend to be ultra critical of their own
    breed.  This is certainly true of our breeder/judge.  But, the
    important thing is that she isn't going to point out to you anything
    that you didn't already know.  Being the breeder of that cat, you know
    his strengths and weaknesses better than any judge could ever know
    them.
    
    So, if she doesn't like them, too bad for her!! :^)

    Hi guys.... I haven't been heard of for a while in this file do to

    Is anyone planning on attending the CFA show Oct 12th & 13th in
    Fitchburg, Ma. ??  I think Bijou is willing to give ME another
    chance at putting him in the ring and Fitchburg is nice and close.

    Boy George - You're setting your sights high.  :^)   That is a
    qualifier show so I think I'm going to pass on that one.  I wish
    Shadow's son was old enough to show in that one tho.
    

    I was thinking of entering Herbie just to see if he could "premer."
    This way, I would know what our goal is and not get disappointed if he
    didn't make the finals :^).  These types of shows seem better to
    champion as I doubt there will be a whole lot of opens attending.
    
    I've been getting a lot of push from Himmie breeders to get out and
    show him, since he is a lynxpoint and they are still fairly rare.  I
    will have to check with his breeder though, to ensure she's okay with

        I really had no intention of seeing Bijou grab the brass ring. It
        was more out of curiousity to test his show attitude. The 3 times
        he was shown in CFF as a kitten, his attitude was terrible with the
        judges. Now that he has been altered I thought I would give him 
        another go in premiership.

    The closing dates for the qualifiers are all on October 1st or when the
    limit of 450 is reached.  Many region's qualifiers filled with 450
    entries already, so if you haven't gotten your entry in, do so right
    away.  Even our region, which is known for lower show counts, is close
    to closing.  Last weekend the entry clerk told me that he only had a
    few spots left.
    
    The midwest region's show closed the weekend I got back from Medina,
    August 26th!!  Glad I am not in that region, I don't plan that far in
    advance! ;^)

    be held in Oakland, CA at the Oakland Convention Center.  Unlike Linda,
    I am not prepared with directions for you! :')  Go to Oakland, follow

    Hope this helps.  Just before you get to what was once the Cypress 
    section of Highway 880, look to your right, just off the freeway is 
    what I believe is a Hyatt-type hotel, the convention center is right 
    there next to it.  In fact, you can walk back and forth between the 
    convention center and the hotel without going outside (which in Oakland 
    is sometimes a blessing).
    
    I don't remember the exact exit you can take but I believe the very
    next one after you curve around the conv. ctr./hotel will get you
    there.  The exit right before it will too but I found the one way
    streets in that area a little frustrating.  Don't know which way is
    best.  Also, the convention center has a large parking garage attached
    to it for when you finally arrive and need a place to park.

    Can someone help me find out where cat shows are being held.  On April
    20th I went to my first cat show.  I loved it.  I find out about it
    reading the notes file.  It was in Kennebunk, ME.  I met Nancy and
    her cute kitties there.  I talked my husband into going because it
    was my birthday and that is what I wanted to do.  I had a really
    good time.
    
    I would really appreciate if someone could direct me to a notesfile
    that may contain cat show listings.  I read note 4957 and I guess
    there will be a cat show in Boxboro and Marlboro.  I'm really 
    disappointed I missed the one this pst weekend.  I just love buying
    kitty toys, sweat shirts and stuff animals.

    MA but I am willing to travel a little ways for a show.  It's worth

	I don't have all the details, but there's a cat show coming up
	in Manchester, NH on November 2&3.  It's being held at the
	Center of New Hampshire on Elm Street.  I believe the hours are
	9-5 each day.

	To get there, head north on 3 or 93 (they meet up near Jordan
	Marsh in Bedford).  Take the Granite Street Bridge exit and 
	turn right at the end of the ramp.  You'll cross over a bridge
	and then over a set of railroad tracks.  There's a traffic
	light immediately after the tracks.  Keep going straight up
	the hill and you'll see a parking garage on your left.  This
	is the parking area for the Center.  Parking on Elm St. itself
	may be difficult, especially on Saturday.

    	Kai will be there. We sent in the paper work this morning. We were
    told that they were not filled up yet.
    	Also, thru popular demand, Teddy will be coming out of retirement
    and will be shown in HHP. I couldn't take the pressure from friends and
    family.
    	So please say HI when you see Diane and me. We'll have our badge on
    the cage.

    There is a CFA show in Boxboro this weekend, Nov 9-10. It will be
    at the Host hotel ...former Sheraton-Boxboro at the junction of Rts
    495 and 111 in Boxboro, MA.  Dancer will be trying for her winners
    ribbons and Danny is entered in the kitten class.  If you have a chance
    to visit the show ..please stop by and introduce yourself ..and help

    Hours of the Vintage Shorthairs show Golden Gate Park are 9-5 both
    days.  There is an admission charge but I don't know how much it will
    be.  If you plan on going, try to come early.  Otherwise parking is a

    will most likely be Dundee's last show as he will have a new
