| Maybe the Derry Humane Society who also has contact with the Bosler
one in Mass. Now the Bosler (however you spell it) is one woman
on her own. Derry just brought up 4 truckloads of newspaper up
to her to help keep all the dogs warm in the real cold weather.
I would say that one is the most needy compared to the other.

Had no luck locating the Derry Humane Society through information.
Do you have a numbr for it or for the Bosler shelter?
I agree with you and think she would be most deserving of any help.
The Pepperall no kill shelter is another option as well.

| It's no surprise that you couldn't contact the Derry Humane Society
because it DOESN'T EXIST !! They never answer the phone number
they advertise and most folk wonder what happens to the money
that "they" collect in canisters placed in Derry stores, and
the money that is collected from flea dips, etc. Their
reputation is very shoddy, to say the least. They do not
have an actual building - "they" are suposed to be operating
out of someone's house, but the phone is never answered and
calls are never returned. I would avoid them at all costs.
The Lowell Humane Society, Broadway St. Lowell MA would put
those certificates to VERY GOOD USE! You could send them
to the attention of Ms. Carol Taylor, Director of Humane Education

| I sent the gift certificates to the Lowell Humane Society. Elaine
Bosler was grateful, but stated Nashua was too far. My two latest
"nieces" came from Lowell, so why not!

I have 7 of my 13 kids are from the Lowell Humane Society.
I used to shop there frequently!

Hi Elaine,
That bothers me about the Derry Humane Society! Is that true?
I just gave their number to a friend of mine who is in search of
kittens. I live in Derry (as does my friend), and do not like the
idea of people taking advantage of a situation, like running a humane
society under false pretenses, or for reasons other than to assist
homeless animals! Do you have any more facts or information about
it? I'd appreciate any more info you have!
Another point is, that if this is indeed an unreputable establishment,
I would still encourage people to go and rescue animals from the
place, just not to make any donations or to pay for any extra services
they offer. I'd hate to think that the animals having the bad
luck to be brought to a place like that should have to suffer because
people won't go there to find them and take them home... It's not
like boycotting a store that has bad business practices.
Does anyone know what can be done to ensure that one's own town's
humane society is being handled properly? I seem to have read a
few complaints about places being run improperly or unethically,
but what can the town citizens do to regulate it, short of running it
themselves? I shudder to think that animals are being "officially"
mistreated in my own town!
I'd appreciate any suggestions.

| Hi Amy,
Yes, it bothers me also. My friend used to be the director
there. There is NO PLACE. From what I understand there
is no actual building. I don't know what happens to the
animals, if there are any. If you want more details,
send me mail and I will give you my friend's phone
number and she can fill you in on the all the details.
I do know that I see canisters in stores, they have
flea dips, and stuff like that. I sure wonder what
they do with the money they collect. They had a
flea dip last summer in Derry - they also brought
animals into the Blue Seal Feeds & Needs store -
most of the animals they had up for adoption were
sick and needed vetting very badly, but they still
adopted them out just to get rid of them. I know
that this is true because my friend work at Blue
Seal and she called me to ask if I could take one
of the sickest kittens to the vet, which I would have
but she left work and took it herself and then she
adopted him. We both tried to get vet appointements
at the same time, but her vet was closer.
