1023.0. "Kitten wanted in the UK" by CHEFS::ALLYS () Fri Jan 08 1988 11:52

    Hello

I am a new user to NOTES and was interested to see this particular
conference. I am currently looking for a kitten, preferably female,
however the only kittys up for adoption seem to be available in
    the U.S !!

If there are any kittens going in the UK please let me know, and
by the way is it true, that this is the wrong time of the year for kittens ?

    Hope somebody can help

    Shaz,

I can't help you with a kitten in the UK. However, if this is the
"wrong" time of the year for kittens, someone better tell Cookie
before she delivers today or tomorrow. Seriously, breeders who
plan and control breedings usually try to time their kittens based
on the seasons and the show season. Therefore a lot of us who breed
longhaired cats try for May deliveries so kittens will be show age
    when the cool weather returns.

re: 'wrong' season

Many breeders are *very* cautious about placing kittens intended for
Christmas gifts. With all the distractions at that time of year, I'd have
to know the person *very* well to assure myself that the new kitten would
get the higher-than-normal attention required in the first few months.

re: imminent litters

You too? We also have one due "any second now".

You mighty try contacting Karen Holder at:

    Mrs. Karen Holder
    Rocamadour Cattery
    17, George Street
    Blechley MK22NR
    (0908)77265

She sells Siamese kittens, but she might be able to tell you if
there are societies there like there are here that have cats for
adoption. Tell her that I recommended that you talk to her.

(We bought a Siamese Male from her last summer - *really* nice people)

1023.4Thanks for the advice....CHEFS::ALLYSTue Jan 12 1988 07:1310
Thanks for your suggestion but I think I have exhausted just about
every phone number in the 'Yellow Pages'; I have tried pet shops,
animal welfare soceities, and even the vetinary surgeons notice
    boards.

I have been told that kittens are like 'gold dust', so I think I
shall have to leave it until spring.

I tried to get a kitten two winters ago and had no success.
I was told that most kittens are born in the spring and
summer, or even the autumn, but not during the cold winter
months. I suppose that kittens in the wild would not
survive the colder weather and so nature takes over here.

However, I was glad that I had to wait until the spring
because otherwise I would not have got the kitten that I
did. If you can bear to wait three months, you will find
that there are lots of kittens being born and you can
choose the right one for you.

re: Cats in the UK

I remember reading in one of the cat magazines about a woman in the UK who
rescues cats abandoned by people in the military when they get transfered.
The article implied she had many cats that needed homes. I'll try to find
the contact information, but if anyone can put their hands on it faster,
please enter the info. We have subscriptions to about three different
magazines and they do pile up.

I think all this means that there is an adult pussycat out there
with your name on him or her.

I mean, I think there is a "baby" adult pussycat waiting in a shelter
    for you.

    Hello Shaz,

Just to say that when I was younger we had one or two female cats
who always produced their litters around March/April time. I think
this bears out the idea that cats don't reproduce in the Winter.

Still, there's not long to wait...

    Best regards,

    Karen

PS I remember talking to you quite a lot once upon a time when
I worked in Sales Admin in Basingstoke!!
