1012.0. "puffball must go by Friday" by PARITY::TILLSON (If it don't tilt, fergit it!) Mon Jan 04 1988 20:05

The grey longhair described in 415.120 still needs a home...

I learned some more about this cat. He was abandoned when his owner
(an elderly woman) was taken to a nursing home. He apparently did
live indoors with his owner prior to his abandonment. I feel just
awful that this poor woman not only had to move out of her home,
but lost her pet as well.

I am at my landlord-designated CATMAX, and I can't keep this kitty.
He must go by the end of this week. Please, PLEASE, is there anyone
who can take him, even on a temporary basis? The poor baby has
been living on my porch for too long. Can anyone give this cat
a home? I'll cover any expenses if money is a problem. I'm also
willing to send him out on a "trial basis" if you think you might
    like him, but aren't sure.

I don't want to take this cat to a shelter except as a last resort.
Unfortunately, if I can't place him by Friday, that's what must
    be.

    Looking for a miracle,
    Rita

Rita, I can't take the cat but I thot I'd throw this out as a
suggestion; would any of the reader's of this notes file (or anyone
they know) consider providing a "foster home" for the cat (similar to
what was done when the Pelham shelter was contraversy was going

A wonderful fellow reader of FELINES has offered to take this kitty
if we can find a way to get him to Washington, DC. Is there anyone
who is traveling from the New England area to DC in the near future
(within the next two or three weeks) who would be willing to take
    him down?

I will consider just shipping him via an airline. I've heard lots
of horror stories about pets being shipped; does anyone know of
a reliable, non-dangerous way to ship a kitty?

    Thanks,
    Rita

I am planning to go to DC towards the end of this month. It
will be either the weekend of 1/30-31, or 2/6-7. If someone can
foster him until then, I'd be happy to take him along!

Thanks! That should work out just fine. I think I can convince
my landlord to let the kitty stay on the porch until you go. I'll
keep in touch with you by MAIL and will also let everyone here in
FELINES know how things work out. What a great bunch of people!

Hi, Rita! Want me to go tell your landlord how nice kitties are??
He works right around the corner from here, and we all know he has
a soft heart.... he said he only asked you to leave the boa with
Pat&Andy so his kids wouldn't ask for one, too!

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I'm the "softie" that's going
to take Puffball. My sister lives in an apartment type house and

I'm really looking forward to meeting Puffball, as I'm sure he'll
be anxious to meet his adopted brother and sister, Charlie and Shanti,
as well as his new 'family'!

1012.15The time is at hand!PARITY::TILLSONSugar MagnoliaMon Jan 25 1988 21:5042
Sorry it has taken so long to get back here, sometimes I gotta work
    instead of noting :-) blech!

Yes, Charlotte, the landlord is a sweetie. No problem with Puffie
    staying.

Puff's big day is Thursday! He's on the road to Washington! Tomorrow
evening we see the vet and get all the required health certificates
    and stuff.

I'm really gonna miss this guy! Thanks to everyone who offered
    their help.

Oh, for those of you who were worried about the cold - the porch
is completely enclosed. There is also a cot that I use as a sofa
which has a quilt covering it that goes to the floor. Underneath
the sofa is a pile of towels, and a carpeted "kitty cave" with more
towels. That's where the big guy has been sleeping.

He was pretty shy at first. You could take him out and hold him
and he would be very docile, and purr quietly, but wasn't real
affectionate. I was a little concerned that he would always be
    aloof.

    I SHOULDN"T HAVE WORRIED!

    A little explanation: I smoke, my husband doesn't. I don't smoke
in the house, so the porch is my "smoking lounge". In the past
two weeks, when I have gone out for a cigarette, Puff's behavior
has changed radically! Now, as soon as I go out, he is in my lap!
Immediately! Sometimes he'll curl up on one leg (mine, not his)
and sit quietly and purr LOUDLY. Other times, he goes nuts! Curls
around and around in my lap, upside down, rubs all over me. What
a love! He's going to make an incredible pet!

I wish I could keep him. I'm glad he's going to have a good home
    - he deserves it!

    Puff, I'm gonna miss you!

    Rita

1012.16Puffball becomes Washingtonian!MARRHQ::KORCHNAKThu Jan 28 1988 15:3521
Puffball is an absolute sweetheart! And the name fits him purrfectly!
He was very vocal about his trip on the plane -- talked the whole
way to my house about it! Luckily I only live a 1/2 hour from the
airport or he would have probably talked longer.

He met Shanti -- she hissed and growled. He met Charlie -- he hissed,
and hissed, and got his fur full of static. Puffball responded to
this by hiding under the bed, where he probably still is! The other
2 clinged to me for dear life as if I had brought a MONSTER in the
house! So they are NOT happy with me bringing a visitor home! I
have to keep Puffball till Sunday when I see my sister. I hope in
the meantime the 3 of them don't somehow get together and have it
out! I'm going to try to keep them separated, which I really don't
like to do (playing favoritism doesn't seem too fair).

All in all, Puffball seemed a little nervous, but once I picked
him up and cuddled him, he was fine!

BTW: Rita, he did have an 'accident' in the carrier. Probably just
    nerves....

1012.17Thanks!PARITY::TILLSONSugar MagnoliaThu Jan 28 1988 16:0119
Ooooh, I'm so glad he made it there ok! I (nervous auntie to the
Puff) worried about him the whole time. My hubby thought I was
a little nuts - It's 7am, Puff is at the airport, oh, its 8:30,
Cheryl is picking him up now, ooh, I hope he's doing ok! I was
a basket case! I feel MUCH better now!

I'm sure he was excited about the trip. Last night on the way to
Sherry's house we talked about it in the car. I explained all about
airplanes and the NICE people he was going to be with! He seemed
to understand, and he promised to write when he got there ;-)

I'm very happy that he has a home now. He's a big sweetheart!
Thanks so much to Sherry for taking him down, and to Cheryl and
her sister for providing a home. Cheryl, do keep Puff's auntie
and his FELINE noter friends informed on how's he's doing. I love
getting progress reports on my babies.
